james, 23 Sep 2009I have a UK retail version and it does not have Android Market on it! Its a decent phone but i... moreFlash a newer Samsung Galaxy firmware and you'll have the Market application.
I've posted my review of the Samsung Galaxy at http://wiki.dandascalescu.com/reviews/gadgets/pda_phones/samsung_i7500_galaxy. There's also a side-by-side comparison with the HTC Hero:

@Anonymous: the Motorola Dext doesn't have camera flash.
I have a UK retail version and it does not have Android Market on it! Its a decent phone but if you cant put apps on it its kind of pointless.
What we really need is a full review of this phone specifically showing RMAA audio quality test and Camera samples. If those are high quality this phone is destined to become a favorite with its great design and OS.

tony, 11 Sep 2009can anyone with this phone answer a question for me? i have heard from people who have phones... moreHi Tony
bother yourself a little and read the specifications
can anyone with this phone answer a question for me? i have heard from people who have phones with AMOLED screens in the past and they have told me that the screen was very difficult to see outside, especially if it is sunny. Is the AMOLED screen on this phone better? Can you see it in the sun?
SlickRick, 28 Aug 2009Does anyone know if The Galaxy will support the 1700 AWS 3G Network from T-Mobile USA. I see i... moreIt support. I am using that.
in soviet russia, phone calls yooouuuu!!!!!!!
GalaxyUser, 03 Sep 2009Galaxy has many issues, apart from Android specific ones, have a look:
# NO 16,1 Million-Co... more@Galaxyuser:
# The HTC phones do not have 16.1 million colour support, the Galaxy does (according to specs from Samsung). Also the Galaxy has the superior AMOLED screen.
# Battery life is comparable to other Android models and will improve significantly after the first few charges.
# Tethering is not supported on any Android phone, but there are apps for it - if the apps have problems it's not the phone's fault.
# Camera picture quality is above all other Android phones to date, and samples I have seen online are excellent. Camera speed is an issue common to all Android phones. Also, no Android phones have very good video support yet.
# Music has no bass on some headphones? Get better headphones. Cannot blame the phone.
# Sluggish GUI has been reported on the HTC hero. Haven't seen it standing out in reviews for the Galaxy which has the improved Android 1.5 and does not have the Sense UI (which had sluggishness when first released).
# The lack of multi-touch and its effect if you accidentally press two virtual keys at once are the same for all Android phones with a virtual keyboard and is not a problem specific to this phone.
Most of the issues stated are not issues with this phone but limitations of Android. Some, like camera speed, will improve with subsequent updates. Some, like camera quality and screen quality, seem bogus - they are better on this phone than any other Android phone.
This phone has 192MB not 128MB RAM. Samsung have confirmed that some sites misinterpreted an early press release. It has 64MB + 128MB just like the HTC Dream.

I would also like to see gsmarena post the battery life statistics. Thanks.
it does have GPS, just wonder where you read it :) i have Ndrive installed with eastern european and western european maps and just wanted to say never seen such accuracy as on galaxy. btw GPS lock is also quite fast bt not inside the house. i think it locks 12 or 14 sattelites. and dont worry its realy GPS not A-gps which gets your location from transmiting towers from your providers or something
about all the negative aspects pointed below
yes screen does flicked when you're browsing. battery life isnt that bad when you read some forums and know how to save it. call sound isnt that great but its good enough. camera was better with FF firmware now with H7 i see some blurines. but i think all these points will dealt with in later firmware update.
but all i want to say that the phone is amazing and when you download apps it makes it all round machine (currency converter, Navigation apps, office apps, pdf viewer, music, video players (need more codecs), games, facebook, twitter apps and million more)
this spec says it has a built in GPS is it really true. every where else i heard it doesn't has a GPS????????
Galaxy has many issues, apart from Android specific ones, have a look:
# NO 16,1 Million-Colour-Support
# Galaxys AMOLED-Screen has flimmering/statics
# Battery-Life unpredictable and low
# Tethering not working reliably
# Camera picture quality/speed below par
# 3.5mm Jack loose
# Music has no bass +too quiet on some headphones
# Sluggish GUI experience
# keyboard can't handle two thumb-input-accidents
first impressions of this phone are good, but there's too much disappointment when you find out about the things above..
baley, 29 Aug 2009Opera is not available on the android platform, but Opera is woking on it, AFAIK there is no b... moreOpera Mini is available for Android. It is Opera Mobile that isn't. Opera Mini uses a proxy whereas Mobile doesn't, making Opera Mini much faster, at the expense of routing your data via Opera's servers, in case you're a privacy nut.
just ugly and too expencive
What were they thinking when they put ONLY 128 mb of ram? are they out of their minds??
Recently purchased the Samsung i7500 (unlocked), from "popularelect.com". Price was $585.00. Removed the SIM card from my Nokia 1680, and used it in the i7500 - the damn thing works!! I only have voice at the moment. I'll pick-up a data plan when T-Mobile is ready. The WiFi works great in the interim.
There's no need to wait for T-Mobile. I'm sure they're manipulating release dates to purge their HTC 'myTouch' inventories based on initial market projections, and HTC release agreements. If you're willing to wait, I'm sure you'll get the phone much cheaper under contract, but life is too short - I'm sporting the new i7500 today, and it's turning heads.
