Samsung i780 - user opinions and reviews

Samsung

I've been looking at this phone for a long time now; are there two different "models"? I keep reading about different specs and there are two distinctly different photos of this phone (most noticeable difference is the number keys layout). Am I wrong? Also, will this phone work with t-mobile in the US?

for anyone having problems solving the GPS functionality. This phone has an A-GPS reciever which is actually more advanced and quicker than normal GPS. If youve bought on Orange, you will need to subscribe to Webraska GPS software. It is very cheap and can be used in a pay as you go manner. There is a 7 day free trial. The phones seems locked at the moment so only Webraska and Google maps will work but both are very good.

As always from gsm arena 10/10 review.
The navigation with "mouse like" interface rules. Its a very good idea cause it compensates for the poor windows animations when browsing through a win mobile phone. I always wanted to see this on a phone, thx samsung. I like the fact that it has a divx player, but while this is near vga res. on my lg viewty i have videos that are 720*406 that play in pure dvd quality. But im happy they kept the divx thing going. Im very impressed with the UI but i dont like that type of design- very similar to the blackberry. But it seems to b a good phone :)

Got one of these on Orange UK Business Contract couple of weeks ago. There is just so much to this phone. I've had nokia communicators up to now, but this takes functionality to another level (Orange dont do the E90). Quite a learning curve (took a weekend to realise full functionality)Wheras the Comunicators were a phone first, PDA second, I'd say its the other way round with the i780. So many input options (touchscreen, stylus - virtual keypad or scrible recognition, qwerty, or optical pointer..) Would prefer the "Phone" page with number keypad to be the default WM6 interface - ive foumd myself dialing people touching the phone log which comes up after you press the green call button. GPS is invisible until you install mapping software (I downloaded & installed google maps over a 3g connection). Cant find a FM radio, I've plugged in the headset et al but no FM radio (tried all media apps etc) - any suggestions? Syncing with outlook is easy. Office apps allow excel & word docs, pdfs open in image app. Video & Music playback as you'd expect. No TV out though.

I went to a local Samsung Plaza yesterday and guess what they have a nice fully functional i780. Played it a while and the initial impression is great.

I love the touch pad mouse, sure it doesn't have any D-pad, but the touch pad mouse can cover. It maybe a problem if you love to play game or anything that depends heavily on D-pad.

It's sleek and well-built as expected, another well-built Samsung phone. The screen is much better than my HTC TyTN.
