The power button on the I780 also serves as a sleep mode function, however this button, when just lightly pressed does not only put the handset to sleep, no incoming calls come through (ie. phone does not ring at all). Is there a setting to deactivate this button.
I'm a new i780 owner and I have a question.
When I try to connect to Internet via Wifi, I'm always promtped to allow the connection with GPRS.
The phone is Orange branded.
How can I choose the connection way?
And another question:
Where can I found an exhaustive (and easy)manual about Windows Mobile 6??
can you use the front camera when you are shooting photos bcos with the i600 you couldnt use the front camera?does it sync notes?
Glynn, 22 Jun 2008Can you create and edit word and excel documents or can you only view them?yes, it can view/edit office docs/xls.

Tsepz, 18 Jun 2008Thanx so much. The missing TV-Out and Flash for the camera are not that important to me i was ... morelol. then this is exactly the phone for you. i do my master's degree presentations thru my phone. my mates will send it to me via email so i am always updated, and i edit my final touches using the phone too. :)
Ali, 18 Jun 2008does the i780 come with a memory card in the package?
-nope, you better off buying a micro sd... moreThanx so much. The missing TV-Out and Flash for the camera are not that important to me i was just very curious if it had the TV-Out.
Ive already got a NOKIA N81, so that will be my entertainment device. Im starting University next year so the i780 seems perfect for that. Album Art and Music quality are not too important so its fine, i mainly will use it for Video, PDF, Word document and Calender viewing and also for Notes.
Here is what i found on the internet for GPS activation for i780.
Go to the Start Menu > Settings > System
Click on External GPS icon
Under the Programs Tab change GPS program port to COM8
Move to Hardware Tab and change GPS hardware port to COM9 and Baud rate to 4800
Move to Access Tab and check Manage GPS automatically
Click OK to save your settings
Now launch Google Maps on your device (if you haven’t got it, go download it) and stand under the clear blue sky. Within 2 seconds you should get at least 4-5 satellites connected and a little blue dot on your map for your location. Keep the settings for the GPS in Google Maps to use the system default.
Oh, and just to be clear, Google Maps is NOT a driving GPS replacement. It doesn’t “talk” to you and prompt you with robotic voices. It’s just a mapping application that helps you find your way.
just for those people who are planning to buy this, i know there are tons of good stuff that all of you guys got to read about this phone. but here are the cons...
1. batt on average use (2hrs of call everyday and every hour texting) it will only last for 2 days. this is already at low bright display and sleep moded when not in use. but hey, there's a free batt and the charger lets you charge your extra batt so your phone is always free.
2. no camera flash and 2.0 megapix, but hey, as what i always emphasized, this phone is a SMARTPHONE and not a STYLE-FASHION-TRENDSETTER phone. so when you buy this it should mostly be for business.
3. does not come with free screen protector. you can buy them almost anywhere nowadays so its no biggie.
these three are the only ones i see as setbacks for this phone. ill keep you guys posted once i discover more flaws. but i doubt that though as the program is really solid and the after sales support is very accessible.
TechDinosaur, 16 Jun 2008Am still using a paper diary to carry with MS Outlook on office desktop PC. Using 2 diaries d... more1. To be able to synchronise Outlook appointments, tasks, etc. to cellphone while on the road. Can this be done? I my secretary arranges a meeting for me and places on my outlook in office will this be pushed to the phone?
-- i have not tried the active sync yet but my brother does it in a breeze. outlook appointments are easily sync'd complete with reminders, occurences and attendees.
2. Reiceiving emails to this phone are not even that critical but would be useful.
-- for as long as you have wifi, you can receive emails thru this phone anytime of the day.
3. Can i navigate with my big fingers easily and find the diary features easily and quickly?
-- if your thumbs are a full inch wide, then i do not recommend this phone. but hey, how many people out there have big hands???
4. I do not need mp whatever, zap this and zap that etc.
-- with the TOUCHPAD technology on this phone, its like bringing your own pc with you.
Is this phone a good choice for a migrating TechDinosaur
-- if you have work and needs a smartphone, this is the way to go.

How is the au... moredoes the i780 come with a memory card in the package?
-nope, you better off buying a micro sd as there are tons of affordable options for you
and does it have tv-out?
-nope, this is a business phone, not a fashion phone that you can flash to your friends thru the tv.
how is the audio quality when listening to music via headset?
-in a scale of 1-10 i would give it a 9.5
does the media player support album art?
-album art? nope, that takes a lot of useless space. this phone is a smartphone for 75% business and 25% pleasure. so there is no need for album arts, you might want to get "fashion phones" like the iphone 3g.
and which web browser do you prefer to use in your i780? opera8.65 or ie? im mainly going to use it to surf the net, play music, take notes in class, gaming, create/view/edit word documents, watch movies/videos and take pics and vids, is it good at these?
-although it has a built in opera browser, ie will do fine. this phone is definitely not for gaming. but as far as watching videos and playing music, it does it with a breeze. taking pictures may not be as strong as most cameraphones now since this only has a 2.0 with no flash.
other than that, this phone (yes i already own one) is my dream phone since it helps me balance my master's degree and work fairly well. :)
Fantastic phone - everything works perfectly, much better than the nokia e-series which had so many bugs and even worse after sales support - my first samsung phone, i have been converted !

Ive got 4weeks to choose between the i780, HTC TyTN-1, HTC S710, and HTC TouchDual.
This it the best phone ever
I have put the Tom Tom gps software on here. Its works amazingly. You can also put the garmin software on here. Read up on it on google and it will give you instructions on how to put it on. The tom Tom is the better gps software for this phone and is esier to use
