just bought this and havign a nightmare installing GPS software. Apparently there is is only expernal GPS but Orange and Samsung state A-GPS is available on Webraska. Has anyone actually used a version of A-GPS mapping software. Doe this actualy have a hidden internal GPS??? Can anyone help me.
This is samsung's second calculator that doubles up as a phone after blackjack.
Got one of these on Orange UK Business Contract couple of weeks ago. There is just so much to this phone. I've had nokia communicators up to now, but this takes functionality to another level (Orange dont do the E90). Quite a learning curve (took a weekend to realise full functionality)Wheras the Comunicators were a phone first, PDA second, I'd say its the other way round with the i780. So many input options (touchscreen, stylus - virtual keypad or scrible recognition, qwerty, or optical pointer..) Would prefer the "Phone" page with number keypad to be the default WM6 interface - ive foumd myself dialing people touching the phone log which comes up after you press the green call button. GPS is invisible until you install mapping software (I downloaded & installed google maps over a 3g connection). Cant find a FM radio, I've plugged in the headset et al but no FM radio (tried all media apps etc) - any suggestions? Syncing with outlook is easy. Office apps allow excel & word docs, pdfs open in image app. Video & Music playback as you'd expect. No TV out though.
what's the price for this?? ...& when is this giong to come out in Asia.. in Singapore at least ]8 ...i have my eyes on this one, kuhz of the features! ..touchscreen, the keyboard and it has wi-fi!! it seems sssso promising!
I went to a local Samsung Plaza yesterday and guess what they have a nice fully functional i780. Played it a while and the initial impression is great.
I love the touch pad mouse, sure it doesn't have any D-pad, but the touch pad mouse can cover. It maybe a problem if you love to play game or anything that depends heavily on D-pad.
It's sleek and well-built as expected, another well-built Samsung phone. The screen is much better than my HTC TyTN.
Does anyone know if the phone's A-GPS will work with the tmobile network in the USA?
Is there fm radio in this phone? official site writes it has fm radio? thank you
Has it fm radio or not? its site says it has fm radio? is it corect?

Yes this phone has Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) system which needs provider network in order to use this functionality. But I read somewhere, that you can also use the GPS function without the network. In this case, you use it like a normal GPS function. The difference is that with A-GPS it is more faster to accuire your location on the map because it doesn't depend only on the GPS satelites but also on the carrier network.
About 3rd party apps, yes sadly i also read that the Navigon GPS chip used in this phone does not allow you to use 3rd party apps. (yes you can but you need to use another 3rd party GPS receiver also)
this phone has a built-in GPS, however it is based on the cellular signals. It also only works with the pre-installed software and not with any 3rd party GPS software. As mentioned in the manual, for use with other 3rd party GPS software, external GPS is required.
