Hi, I've just got my SGS yesterday. I'm new to the android system (it is my first one), can someone tell me what apps i should have for the SGS and what is the KIES that everyone is talking about. Thanks in advance
Can the GPS be used without connection to the internet. I want to know if I can download Google maps in home country for use in country I'll visit - and not have to use a data connection whilst overseas.
Zahed Islam (Bangla, 23 Aug 2010Can Anyone tell me what's the main difference between AMOLED, Capactive & TFT screen??? A ... moreCapacitive is technology that uses ur heat from body(thermal) to sense the movement
TFT->TFT stands for thin-film transistor. This is the technology for the ultimate LCD display.
AMOLED->(Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode is is a display technology.OLED describes a specific type of thin display technology which doesn't require a backlight, and Active-Matrix refers to the technology behind the addressing of pixels.
AMOLED means lesser power consumption best for smartphones
I had the option either to go for iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy with no price difference as I bought it under contract but having both phones in hand, I opted for Samsung Galaxy and I've no regrets; its the slickest, sexiest beast in the market as of now; even if Android is not your game; go for it; you would not complain.
Battery timings are of an issue a little; if you use YouTube & 3G data a lot - expect battery to last for about 9-10 hours; otherwise talktime/standby is excellent. I've not explored the DLNA option but that sounds exciting; another thing which I would like to mention that perhaps this is the only phone which can give you 5.1 channels of sound quality, I've not seen any phone with such a capability.
Nothing can be said about the Super AMOLED screen - when it comes to LEDs/LCDs, Samsung is the worldleader in that department.
I never expected Samsung to come up with such a phone; I always thought that there phones are for kids or teens; but trust me; this phone would sure prove a record breaking phone!
Hello i9000 Users,

Can Anyone tell me what's the main difference between AMOLED, Capactive & TFT screen??? A little explanation would surely help. :)
My three weeks with SGS:
I was using SE W830i a walkman phone, I feel SGS need to be more user friendly...
Ya i got lot to explore abt DLNA etc,...I 'll keep posting abt my exp...
1) Battery life is poor, heavy usage 10 Hrs.
2) Need to have better application management (Hope Froyo solves this).
3) Volume up and down should also work for previous and next track.
4) GPS needs a tweek (Froyo should solve this).
5) My KIES connectivty not yet solved on WIN 7 (i am not configured correctly, i believe)
6) Samsung key pad should also have numbers in first row, for quick typing.
Battery life is upto u usage, I ll buy a alterante battery.
Tks for the users helping me to configure this awsm gadget
Well, i am using the Galaxy S for like 2 weeks now, it has everything you might need / want. It does not lag, no signal problems, easy to use and decent battery life (i wi-fi a lot). All in all, one of the best phones i used so far and yes i switched from a 3GS.
Money well spent.
Does anybody know if the alarm works when the phone is switched off?
i think it is the best touch phone ever by samsung ... if u only intrested in 5m.p camera do look for Samsung S7220 its quite cheaper n super..
Anonymous, 23 Aug 2010galaxy getting move onHi the 512 MB RAM will not only support Android 2.2 but also Android 3.0 ....whenever that comes...
This is a great great phone ...its fantastic...its awesome...the screen is so good...Android works like a dream and the options and the apps available are so useful that i am thinking why i didnt buy this phone earlier...I bought this from an official Samsung dealer in Pune, India for 28800 with bill and a scratch guard...i have been using this phone for about 4 days now and i am blown away ....love the screen , love SWYPE(the reason why u dont need a slider keyboard with this phone) people may not trust Samsung as they do Nokia in India but they are plain wrong...go for this phone...u will never regret it ...the phone is so light to handle with a gr8 battery and no reception issues that its mind blowing...this in turn protects the phone since even if it falls being light it will damage the phone less...only thing is to be careful not to put any key or hard object with phone in the same pocket else it may damage the glass screen...A-GPS is also great ...loving the phone more and more by the minute....desperately waiting for the Froyo update now...
so when the froyo update is coming ?
will the 512 ram supports in froyo ?
