And they updated that way. Personaly i took my phone to my provider 3, and it was updated to gingerbread within 2 wks for free. The other option is taking it to the nearest samsung service centre...which is also free i think. Check samsung.com....co.uk. Otherwise you need advice from the people here who flash their phones with other roms

Try this first..
1) Remove the battery and wait 30 secs and then reinsert it.
2) Switch on holding down Vol Up+Home+Power buttons. Your phone will go into Recovery mode.
3) Using the Vol Up/Down buttons select 'Wipe Cache partition' and press the Home button.
4) Do the same as 3) but select 'Wipe Data/ Factory Reset.
5) Do the same as 3) but select 'Reboot System Now'
That will optimize the battery and remove any data flux from your phone.
Doing the above will remove everything from your phone - Apps, Contacts, Messages etc, so back up anything you want to keep first.
Your phone will now be like it has just come out of the factory.
