Just too fed up waiting for it in the UK now. G810 was "released" before Omnia and still has not hit the high street, same for Xperia. Doubt any brand gives 100% performance, but do remember that in the UK under the Sale of Goods Act if the product is not of satisfactory quality, or fit for purpose, you have a legal right to return it to the shop with whom you have a contract (NOT the manufacturer) and you are entitled NOT to another phone but to your money back as you are repudiating the contract. So don't put up with crap. Stand firm as shops will argue with you, cite the law and they often give way. Hope this helps. Sorry to those outside UK I cannot offer the same advice, but suspect most countries have similar laws.
OMNIA Sucks, 10 Aug 2008Samsung OMNIA Sucks! and Made international Roaming calls on its own!!! I am sharing my utt... moreI was reading your comments when it comes to your Ominia. Bad Luck to you. I've bought mine a couple of months ago and had no issues at all. In fact I was able to install the softwares such as iphone themes, NAVphone mapking so on and so forth Just wanna share my good experience with this phone. Although this phone has limitation, (which phone hasn't?) Overall I'm satisfied with it.Just my two cents...
to theefman: are u telling me that ur omnia does not save photos in ram and that u can take hundreds of photos with no problems? are u also telling me that ur omnia runs without jamming up the ram? even if u haven't installed one new program on ur phone since u got it? so u can always open ur camera with no problem? if so please share ur secret...maybe i'm doing something wrong? maybe if ppl didn't pay big bucks for a crap product that doesn't work properly...they wouldn't be complaining. i don't know about u but i just want a phone that does what it supposed to...i don't have time to deal with problem after problem...a phone should just run like a phone.....don't worry...ur problems will come...then u will be the one complaining :)
ya...i'm beginning to think the omnia does suck. i/ve had it 2 weeks an really disappointed! what kind of retard designed this thing? for some reason ram memory is always almost full even with no programs running? i can't even open camera to use? i'm sure even when i find out what's taking all the memory (i closed all programs) the stupid thing will save the photos i take in the ram instead of on the huge 16gb hard drive! i'm giving this thing 2 more weeks for samsung to regulate problems via update or i'm out...gonna sell this piece of crap and give my money to HTC or apple...or maybe just keep my good old n95 and wait for nokia to come out with their flagship! did i mention the friggin latest update removes haptic feedback!!!
Unlike the i780, the Omnia works better with the mouse. It has a more solid feel -and click/press- to it (instead of being plain flat on the phone).
The downside is that you get to see the mouse pointer most of the time in the today screen. I have yet to see if that's a problem in the field with dirty fingers.
You don't pay for the GPS usage. But you do need a GPS software to use GPS since the phone doesn't come with one.
Good luck finding one that works with the strange resolution that the phone has. Let me know what other program works since I would really like to have a GPS program that works for the phone. I know TomTom6 doesn't work well.
You've upgraded to the latest what? I'm a member of Samsung Mobile, and I don't see any available software upgrade in the UK site.
Who wants to bet all these "Anonymous" posters claiming the Omnia has so many issues dont actually have one. I have had mine for a few weeks and recently upgraded to the latest and while there are a few bugs I have none of the alleged hangs, mysterious dialling out or any other fantastic uber-phone capabilities some are claiming. Bottom line is if the phone doesnt work for you either return it or sell it on and stop whining like a baby.
Will the service provider charge for GPS? Or do we need to buy and install some software? Can someone plz clarify?
"2. Phone's speaker also has a crackling sound when at high pitch.
3. The touchscreen is not sensitive and accurate."
I also agree on those points as well. The touchscreen sensitivity and accuracy can be quite fustrating from time to time.
Like I've said earlier, there's not enough RAM memory. The camera needs at least 5 MB free. So I had to unistall programs that could only go to RAM memory such as VB, and etc...
I would also add that the Samsung UI is worthless.
It had happened to me that the phone shut off on me, but that was mostly when the phone was in my pocket.
I hope Samsung gonna offer a better Pocket PC than this one in the near future because it starts to make me dislike the brand. I got big LCD screens, and many Samsung phones...
Vicky, 10 Aug 2008Does it have VOIP? like can you use Skype with it? to vicky: yes
Samsung OMNIA Sucks! and Made international Roaming calls on its own!!!
I am sharing my utter dissapointment and disgust at my Samsung Omnia. I have been using OMNIA for 3 weeks. I have found out that my Omnia had gone bonkers and made at least 15 roaming calls on its own when I was away in another country. My phone keys were locked and display was put in sleep mode. These unintended calls were due to the sheer stupidity of the enginnering design which allow my phone to make calls even though it was put in sleep mode and keys locked.
I am also extremely pissed off with samsung customer service. I have written many emails to samsung regarding my earlier predicaments with OMNIA and there were many delivery failure messages indicating my emails bounced back. Samsung customer service is really lousy and unprofessional.
Some of the other problems with my OMNIA:
2. GPS couldn't get a fix and it had hanged many times!
3. The phone had hanged many times. Sometimes I also could not open the camera function as it stated that phone memory was not enough (eventhough I had ended all the other tasks and only had 2 pictures in memory!)
4. I had became an expert in poking the soft reset until last week the phone hanged while I was not using it! I had set the alarm clock timings in the phone before going to sleep. However it was my body alarm clock which woke me up. When I noticed the phone hanged and didn't ring I knew I was in great trouble. Being a pilot, my punctuality is of utmost importance. I was nearly half an hour late for my flight. This incident will be recorded and will definitely affect my performance appraisal.
Finally after many emails, I was given a 1 for 1 exchange. However, the so-called "new" phone also sucks!
Among the problems:
1. First of all, my main complaint that my previous OMNIA made calls when kept in my pocket with the keys locked and power turned off persisted in the "new" phone. In fact I CAN'T even lock the keys. I have made sure that the End key setting: Lock Device was selected in the Settings for Buttons. However, I am unable to lock the keys! Any accidental pressure on the call button can cause it to start dialling. I am really very disappointed beyond words. I have also yet to get an answer to the charges for the many calls made automatically by my phone while I was overseas previously. Who is gonna settle the bills for all these roaming calls?!!!
2. Phone's speaker also has a crackling sound when at high pitch.
3. The touchscreen is not sensitive and accurate.
4. phone also has no vibration feedback on the touch screen even though I have selected Max vibration feedback!
5. phone's camera still has the same bug of "Unable to launch camera due not enough memory". It was my first use of the camera and not even a picture was taken yet!
Unless Samsung improves their reliability and customer service, I guess it is better to stick with a reliable brand such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, O2, etc!
For more info of OMNIA can contact me and I will gladly share my review of this phone!
