Erhlich, 31 Mar 2014Hey guys I'd like to know if I should update my s4 to kitkat or just leave it at jelly bean ? My advice would be to stay with Jelly Bean. It was the most stable OS I have used after Ginger-Bread.
Again, it's my opinion, the phone will be little bit snappier in KitKat than in JB, however it will bring some nuisance problems.
Your choice to be honest.
S . SUDHAKAR, 31 Mar 2014Stay with 4.3 itself. Because 4.4 and above has microSD card access problem. Search in google ... moreYes, 4.4.2 brought the horrible External SD permission problem. But there is an app in Play, which sorts the issue out.
akashag, 31 Mar 2014I m planning to buy S4 this week .. i have heard about a problem in S4 about Pixel burn/screen... moreYou are thinking little bit too much.
If you plan to use the phone for two years, or even three years, or even four years, you should NOT worry about burn in AT ALL.
Just after buying the phone, go to service menu, *#0*#, tap on the display test, select a colour, and inspect the screen closely. If there is a dead pixel, you will notice it. However dead pixels are not common, so chances are rare you will get one with dead pixel.
About firmware update, all the S4 in India are eligible for KitKat upgrade. So just buy whatever available, you will get the 4.4.2 update anyway. If you don't get it officially, then there is the Odin way, which is way more easy and safe in my opinion.
Best of luck with your purchase.

Where you get these facts from? CPU comprises of FPU AND ALU calculations. Can GPU handle ALU? CPU can do GPU tasks(however inefficiently) but GPU cannot mimic CPU. Ever heard a GPU running an OS? GPU have variants both scalar and vector? Misinformed you are.
The lag you experience in S4 has been explained which you overlooked in my earlier post. Keep up with your benchmark book keeping. Those are synthetic and can be manipulated i repeat. Intellectual talks are done with those well informed. This isn't it. You may continue resolving readers petty issues.those who don't bother reading posts.

Oh, but graphics benchmarks are important as they use real gaming scenarios. And yes, the better the fps in these benchmarks, the better the real gaming performance. Yes, my S4 lags(very slightly) in high-end games whereas G2 or z ultra play it super smooth.
Why don't you just accept that mali-T628 and powervr series 5 are weak against adreno 330.
Yes, you are correct that CPU and GPU can do each other's tasks but CPU is good at handling scalars and GPU at vectors. So the CPU takes parts in handling the physics and hence, the Octa is one of the highest scorers in physics and fill-rates in these benchmarks. Vice-versa for GPU.
If mali-T628 can't even compete to last years' adreno 330 , it stands no chance against 420 to be released with snapdragon 805. And tegra K1 is the reigning champion with no one worth even half it's power. It can smoke some 330 GFLOPS of power. And mali-t628 is tad less than 100.
A powervr 6 series with S5 would be really nice with s5 octa. It will really be a 2014 flagship killer performance.
And the performance of mali-T628 is not bad. But we are talking about flagships here and people want the best or close to the best. So your argument doesn't fit here.
Maintain your cool bro. I am in for an intellectual discussion and not a fanboy-type fight.

You are too preoccupied with synthtic benchmark sores which are manipulatve and I talk about realtime experience. The Shitty GPU in S5 Exynos is Open GLES 3.0 Compatible and believe me they are more educated and elligible than you! A opengles 3.0, directX 11.0 GPU is not shit. Shit is what you impulsively are filling here as ASK Aunt Alice!
The only justification you have is benchmark scores and Nothing! No references to the GPU/CPU Design, GPU capability! Henc enjoy the bliss of your ignorance and keep spreading it!
I quit from this nonsensical chat!
Did any one received a further update for the I9500 model in India? I have last received 4.4.2 in February, the current Build Number is KOT49H.I9500XXUFNB3 and Baseband Version is I9500DDUFNA4.
Any update/information on this is highly appreciated.

3dmark extreme: 6600 adreno 330: around 9000

Yes you said about cpu and gpu but both have diff. tasks . You can't say i9500 a beast though . The s5 exynos 5422 is a beast as it can handle HMP. But the GPU is weak there too if they use that shit mali- T628. They should use powervr 6 series as in iphone 5s and overclock it a little or use an advanced version from powervr.
That's all i wanna say.

I have written about CPU/GPU combination. Hence you disagreeing about GPU is invalid! No claims or benchmark scores were referred in the post.
HMP runs multicore was to emphasize the difference between the Core migration and HMP mode.
Kindly restrain from abrupt postings and let the readers grasp my opinion. As this heating and Power whining, cheating claims will never stop!
bigLITTLE is a evolving and practical architecture against apple's redundant 64bit A7 CPU architecture! Please don't post back to fill the pages! Its a request no grudges!
Heating and Micro lags are part of the architecture. With persistent high usage (prolong high end gameplay, 3G/4g Video chats, Wifi usage while charging)in all CPUs including Apples! Can't be fixed.

What budget you have?
What version is available in your country?
What other options are you considering?
Mine is very cool always and i don't encounter lags now after 4.4 update. So i don't think you'll have a problem if you configure the phone correctly after purchase. I'll tell you how to remove that heating problem. So there's no problem from that side.

mu96XT, 01 Apr 2014Going through all this fuss in big-LITTLE architecture implemented by ARM and Samsung in its e... moreGreat piece of information. Thanks. But qualcomm has a very different approach. Yes, they use asynchronous tech. but also their krait cores are very power efficient compared to cortex A15. But cortex a15 has a much higher power/clock. a 1.6 GHz quad core a15 is equivalent to 2.2 GHz quad core krait 400.
Yes, the cpu of octa is a beast. It kills the snapdragon 600 and is almost equal to snapdragon 800.
I think a small mistake you did there. In HMP, all 8 cores CAN BE active. They are not always active. It can have every combination. Only one core csn be active and all 8 cores can be. Depending on the need, the cores come into play.
I feel the performance is quite good. Especially after 4.4 update.
I don't think same about GPU. PowerVrsgx544mp3 doesn't support openGl es 3.0 . It doesn't even come close to adreno 330. Adreno 330 has 1.5 times the performance.
Have a nice day
Going through all this fuss in big-LITTLE architecture implemented by ARM and Samsung in its exynos CPUs, SAMSUNG EXYNOS S4 poor graphic performance. I am here to set some thing s straight!
Cluster-migration: In given stress level all four A15(most high performance ARM CPUs ever made- apple uses A7 in IP5s) are running or Quad core A7 CPUs(most power efficient ARM Cpu)
Core-migration: Any combination of 4xA7 or 4xA15, though only 4 cores at a time.(1xA7-3xA15,2xA7-2xA15,etc)
Heterogeneous multiprocessing: All 8 cores are online at once.
Potential power benefits of having cluster migration over a core-migration scheme come from the fact that at any given time only one cluster would be powered on: This eliminates the need to keep power to the whole cluster, including its L2 cache. This also enables shutting off the regulator which is dedicated for that cluster, again gaining some power benefit. And lastly, of course, there is a power benefit from not having the CCI itself enabled, however that cannot account for any large amount of power.
Against the rumors that the CCI(required for latter two modes) is not ready or bugged, there was a reply from SAMSUNG Exynos representative:
@rahulzeven There are not issues with the CCI & this particular implementation of big.LITTLE does show increased performance/efficiency
— SamsungExynos (@SamsungExynos) May 30, 2013
Now, presuming that only cluster migration works, we have still a high performance combination of quad core ARM 15 CPUs running supplemented by POWERVR544 triple core GPU! Believe me this is a blissful performance pair! The heating issue is ARM15 all cores running at same speed. Qualcomm goes towards asynchronous clock planes for each CPU, hence each CPU running a varying clock speed! The micro-lags can be attributed to Samsung's implementation of CCI (L2 caches flushed to main memory and then back to the other CPUs while migration), hopefully this has been fixed in S5, with all memory transfer during migration being done by CCI, this has no significant effect on power efficiency but may remove those micro-lags.
Samsung has implemented its own Core-Migration scheme with In-Kernel-Switches, which is a evolving process!
Hence in short S4 is a high performance beast in all regards with POWER VR SGX544 GPU and ARMs, best A15 CPU. Those occasional micro lags are not GPU or CPU related but exist due to android OS and Cluster/Core migration memory dump transfers due to incapable CCI!
