And can anyone reply to my question on whether the external memory can be accessed via USB?

Assigning contact ringtone from external memory is possible. You have to go to music, then select more from option, then select memory card.

you can not access your external memory while using bluetooth file transfer but still its a great choise at this price tag ...goos sound quality ,good betterylife and i m using 8 gb microsd card in this phone but the speed of the phone does not decrease...so perfect phone at price tag around 5000
and there is 3.5 mm jack too for connect to ur own music system...

Can one access the external memory if the phone is connected via USB?
Though, I read from many of the comments that it can't be done via Bluetooth

hi, this phone is very good phone in samsung but internal memory stroage is very less and direct memory card stroage is not there......

thz phone is really awesome bt the only prob vid thz is v can't take vedio to long it is jst for a sec....nd another prob is ve can't transfer data directly to memory card..........
else the looks , memory, batter lyf, camera clearity everything superb........
