Could someone who has the fone plz talk about the speaker problem? does it hold true for all the handsets of this model or just a certain bunch? if it is the former, could someone explain what the problem is so that if it is a bad investment they could let others know. i am seeing too many questions about the speakers, but no solutions. thanks in advance,

This phone is NOT USB 2.0. Have tried on many USB 2.0 ports and only get 1.x speeds. Using a 1GB Sandisk microSD card and just doing read tests.
Not happy Jan!

Samsung Soul is a classy, sturdy fone!

got 2 questions though...

1. can u modify (via third party) to make the sounds/ mp3 louder?

2. i accidentally deleted the "family" and "friends" under goup list under phonebook. im trying to create a group again but the fone says "unsupported by the sim"

help me out on this. thanks.

I'm going to write a second review on the U900 as the one I'd written previously was tainted by the fact that my unit was faulty, and went wrong within the first week.

Lets start with the good. Construction quality alone is enough to buy this phone. I've noticed Nokia and SE's standards have been slipping lately, and phones less than a year old have trim bits coming off, and paint peeling for no justifiable reason. This doesn't seem to be the case with the U900. I'm one of those people that enjoys the way the quality switches click in an Audi interior, so build quality is a big thing for me. Samsung's got it spot on with a pleasing mix of high-quality plastics and metals.

Then there's that camera. I don't really care about phone cameras, and I barely ever use them. My view has always been, if you want a good digital camera, buy one. Don't get a phone. However, this one's so good, I've found myself using quite a bit. The flash has a tendency to washout photos in darker environments, but still more than sufficient for a phone camera.

The keypad is worth noting too. It's aesthetically pleasing, without being difficult to use.

Then there's the bad. Lets start with the "magic touch" menu interface. Sure it's slick, but does it offer anything a set of regular menu buttons wouldn't offer? Nope, in fact it lags a bit (very rarely though). My take on it? It's just a sales gimmick. Touch-screen is all the rage right now, and by throwing in the touch pad, Samsung has made the U900 more appealing. I don't think touch screens, haptics or not, are ever going to be the equal of a well-made, tactile set of keys.

Then there's the real killer. My beef with "magic touch" is more or less a nitpick, the speaker quality however, is a serious problem. The speaker is rarely, if ever, loud enough during a phone call. Often I have people repeating sentences for me multiple times. That simply isn't acceptable.

There are other minor issues too. For example, I've yet to figure out how to configure the messages to save on the phone memory instead of the sim. While the screen is generally good-looking, sunlight legibility is an issue. And why, for the love of God, is the bluetooth in the applications menu? Like I said, minor issues.

So all-in-all, the U900 Soul is a very solid product. Well-built, stylish, and loaded with great features. The "magic touch" is gimmick, which isn't a good substitute for a full touch screen, or a proper set of keys, but it's harmless nonetheless. The speaker quality remains a serious failing though, and needs to be addressed...quickly.
