hey! bought the gx17 couple a days ago...
all in all a great phone for the price with good connectivity options and personaly unique sharp design.
only turn offs so far for ppl who think of buying it:
- the battery cover is hella hard to open so a possibility of damage. have good nails ready!
- couple of options in the menu are automaticaly connecting to vodafone so bit of a slap on your budget untill u learn u dont need to pay 50cents per pressing unknown options in your phone
- what ever ring tone u set, when called it starts with a silent beep and then the sound accending so ur doomed to miss hearing the first ring... veeery inconvinient if your mobile network automaticaly turns on your voice mail after 4th ring.

i really think you don't have a clue on using a phone if you dare sayin' that the BT or the IRDA ar hard to use/configure. but that's just my personal opinion. i use it with my PC and my PalmOne and everything is OK. buh bye

I have this phone for about a month and a half. Bluetooth is working perfectly, i have a bluetooth adapter to connect it to a PC and it's great. It also connects to other phones. I still haven't found something bad with this phone. Everything is working.

Ok, there has been many questions on how to connect to the supplied Handset Manager software with bluetooth and I too have had to search forums because of the absence of support for the software but here is the solution. Actually it is kind of copied from a few pages back on this forum but...... You must select connectivity...Pc Software...Bluetooth then use your bluetooth software (usually supplied with USB dongle) to search and pair with your phone. Then you have to select to use the phone as a serial port. Take note of the Com port number assigned and make sure the handset manager is looking for that port. Any questions email me at tommyg@curl.aunz.net because it was very difficult for me to figure out in the first place.

Ihave a GX17 (with the mark SFR--IN RED)i really wonder how much memory this phone has.The blutooth does not seem to download from other devices,Is it just bluetooth for a name's sake or does it really work.A tiny virus is larger than the memory space.Sincerely the camera is extremely good but what attracted me in this phone was the bluetooth and i have just come to realise that it sucks.how can i download songs.an somebdy help me.Is it alos possible to use a uSB stick

How the hell can i upload games to my phone? Or
where can i download the factory default software? Cause Vodafone blew the whole java-thing out, you must download from live, and cant upload.

This phone is reasonably reliable, however I frequently encounter problems whenever I go to download something off the vodafone website

I'm using bluetooth to connect it with my computer and it works excellent. I'm very pleased with this phone. Cheap and very reliable. Who needs memory? A phone is designed mostly to communicate. If you want to shoot pictures or movies, cameras were also invented.

problems arrive when combining unsupported transfering schemes. Like trying to transfer a vcf file format unsupported by the sharp phone.
Also when phone enters stand by while connectivity is on (either bt or ir) i noticed some problems like the ones you posted. All ok after reinitiating the connectivity service.
I think that a poor error management implementation implied a poor bug checking procedure by the sharp developers. I feel that this is the only error we'll see when something goes wrong with the transfer: return to standby.
As a conclusion: it is a low cost phone that wanted to implement medium to high end solutions. You can see that when you enter the menu that looks great and after that the graphical design is very poor in quality. And as usually when you try to build a mile long tower with the money that usually buy a cottage for the dog they got a broke legged chicken that doesn't lay any eggs. :))
bye not buy
