read the comments below: you cannot unlock this model. If you don't have Vodafone KK service in Japan, forget it, it's just a paper weight.

Unfortunately this phone cannot be unlocked because this phone is "software" locked to Vodafone Japan. The ONLY way to use this phone is to go back to Japan (you need a residential address and pay your monthly bill in Japan) and "re-activate" the unit and use it's "roaming" feature if you really want to use this phone in other countries (roaming charges are very expensive though...).
Before April 2005 Vodafone KK use to have a plan called "Global Calling Plan" which you paid 540 yen ($5) a month plus any roaming charges you use when you are abroad in other country. You cannot access Vodafone Live or send email other than SMS to Vodafone number, and it's 100 yen (approx. $1) per message sent.
It's such a pity that this phone cannot be unlocked... It's a great phone. I have two Vodafone V801SH and V902SH and live in Hawaii both on Global Calling Plan since I go back to Japan often. One more thing, if you go to Japan and use the phone even once, your calling plan will automatically switch over to "Light Call Pack" which is about 3500 yen (about $32) a month. I beleive Global Calling Plan is not available to new customer after April 2005. (available only to grandfathered customer only who had the Global Calling Plan before April 2005.)
I hope this information will help.
The only phone able to unlock from Vodafone KK is the Sony Ericsson V802SE. Vodafone KK will not do any kind of unlocking though, you can find unlocked V802SE (V800 is a compatable model with no Japanese IME) in Hong Kong and other asian countries for about $700 US dollars.

RE:*Joel* You need to connect your phone to a 3G/UMTS network and I'm not sure if there is one in the Phillipines. Try talking to your local phone shop.

NO one would give out free 902's unless they're locking you into some long contract. watch out!

Sorry to inform you that the V801SH will not work with other SIM card other than that of Vodafone Japan USIM card. The phone is hardcoded and cannot unlock. The only way to use the phone is to have service with Vodafone Japan and use the roaming service that they provide. Nothing else will work, nobody has the software to unlock this phone yet.

Singapore's M1 service Provider has a joint venture with Vodafone which allows M1 special SIM card that is made by vodafone (with vodafone label on it) to be used in the European countries. does it mean that if i use that SIM card in singapore, i can unlock V801sh?

Don't bother buying a USB cable because all you can do with the USB cable is to use the V801SH as a modem. Nothing else can be done with the USB cable.

There's no way to unlock the V801SH. It's not like the 902 European model that just came out easily able to unlock. I have two V801SH and believe me there's no way to unlock this phone. I think it's way better than the new 902's, 802's etc. They are way better in fuction wise.
