Hello there, I've just got a this phone and I'm very disappointed with a coupple of features: the keyboard ilumination is the worse I ever seen...really!! A green and very weak light that barely shows the characters, and it's not a malfunction, Vodafone show me another one to compare. There is no speaker!??The only alternative is to use a headphone, maybe they want to force the costumer to buy a Bluetooth one. And how about sending the same sms for more than one number?? Is not there too...So beatifull but then...Regards from Portugal

Hello,

I have this phone for about 2 weeks, and I fell in love with it. Is there any way to install games without using wap?

Well.
1. Great Phone.
2. You can't send more than 50kb to the phone (via Bluetooth or Infra-red). If you know any way to send more please contact me.
3. I'm using the software with the phone and a USB-Bluetooth. What you need to do. Connect the device properly and in the phone use the option "Pc software" not the bluetooth. That should do the trick.
Farewell. Contact me if you wan't.

Great phone. Bluetooth connection with desktop PC with USB Bluetooth dongle failed, program just kept searching for phone but never found it. After tearing all my hair out trying everything, I figured out by trial and error (manual is completely useless) that in order to make it work, I had ti (1) connect the phone as a "Bluetooth serial port" the software that came with my bluetooth dongle, note which COM port gets assigned to the phone and then (2) go to the second (from left) blue button on the top of the Handset Manager software which doesn't llok like it but is actually the "Options" button, go to "Interface" and select the appropriate COM port for the phone. This was a complete pain as it is totally undocumented and even searching the net I could not find any help, just many others complaining that they could not make Bluetooth work with the Phone Manager software. Hope this will help others to get their Bluetooth working as otherwise this is a really great little phone for the price.

i was given the mobile as a gift...

i do not know how much ti costs but i had a nokia 5210 before... survived a lot of tasks....

anyway... those of u who have problems with the software ... when u synchronise with PC Software make sure that u select the correct option not just IRDA or BLUE TOOTH ... click on software and then select your method...

mine is the vodafone locked edition...
can i still download java applications? i do not see the option in the software is it because i am using an IRDA adaptor?

I just bought the gx17. I tried to load my contacts but had no luck connecting to it. I installed the software on 2 different PCs with different brand bluetooth and IR addaptors, they both failed. The software that comes with the phone is garbage. There's no cable in the package so if you're thinking of buying this phone.. think again.

@elsa:

You can transfer the photos to PC easily using the included windows software. (You can also transfer them via infrared or bluetooth to Linux via e.g. xircp).
It seems that you cannot turn off the camera sound. It is on even in the "silent" profile.
The vodafone-locked edition does not have themes (although the "vodafone-red" theme is not that bad). You can only change power-on and power-off animations and sounds (to remove the vodafone ones) and the screen background.
Besides having the right select button to always go to "vodafone live!" the phone works perfectly with other carriers (I am talking about a vodafone live locked phone not a sim-locked device).
Hope I helped a bit...

I am considering to buy this phone altough is locked to vodafone and i don't like the vodafone menus, but i have some questions. Is possible to tranfer the photos taken to pc? The phone memory is so limited so i want to send the photos taken to pc to free space. I read on sharp site the maximum photos is 80 and to copy the phone numbers to phone has to be one by one. True? Is possible to turn off the phtoto sound? Is it slow to save the taken photo? Does it have themes? Thanks

The phone is great. Good-looking, light, with a fantastic screen.

I have a problem however:
Does anybody know how I can download my own java applications to the phone? I have a .jar and .jad file, but I cannot see any way to download them to the phone via infrared or bluetooth...
Thanks in advance.
