I had purchased one of these. Rugged yes, but the sound quality was horrible. The membrabne used to isolate the speaker from water damage is way too think and it dramatically impairs sound quality. A major fault.

On the show they put them through 3 tests the first was on a lake for the wet test both did well.
The second test, they chained them both to the back of two quad bikes and rode around a field.
The Sonim was starting to show a few cracks the M110 was fine.
The last test they drove a tractor over both phones. The M110 had a few scratches which you would expect after all the abuse it got and still worked. But the XP1’s case completely failed and stopped working. I was quite upset and shocked that a fifty quid phone beat a 200 quid phone. I still keep telling my self that it was a faulty phone after all I have a Sonim XP1.
I’ve seen Sonim’s put in ovens, freezers, beer, water, milk, cement mixers. etc

This phone was tested on the Gadget Show with the Samsung solid the Sonim broke and stopped working but the Samsung survived. It’s not that tough. I was expecting the XP1 to kick ass but was very shocked when out of the two it cracked open and stopped working.

My rate for a low-range phone:
7 to design (It's kinda big)
8 to features (Fow a low-range phone, but the price is too expensive)
10 to performance (It's soooo tough!)
3 years of warranty! All we need to do is try to break it :)

this phone is the ultimate "tradie" phone. a lot of companies are offering this with a 3 year unconditional warranty! this means you can literally shoot, run over and completely destroy the phone and the warranty will replace it!

i work for a phone company, and this has proven to be the toughest phone ever made. who cares about features when your a tradesperson and you need your phone protected when on the job! they have run this over with a tractor, buried in cement, its splash proof, scratch proof, dust proof, can be dropped from heights, and has ringtones designed to be harsher so that they can be heard at a worksite.
out of 10: at least a 12

> In reply to Bobby buoy @ 2008-08-01 13:00 from P%Xy - click to readThat's the great thing about it, NO CAMERA, just a basic tradies phone with Bluetooth. This thing is indestructible, it has 3 years unconditional warranty, you break it they replace it. If you want a camera buy a K850i if you want tough phone, this is the one. The more features you add the fragile it becomes.
