i am truly very impressed with this m600. a really great fone after quite a long time. still missing wi-fi :( atleast that must be provided in this fone. otherwise its just a great fone and i am anxiously waiting for its release :)
i'm very impressed with this phone. it looks great and packed full with features! SE have been listening to their business users and this is perfect. i was so relieved NOT to see a camera on this fella. :) great job and hope to own one soon.
Smart Qwerty needs to pay patent.
Anyway, although it looks good, but still waiting to see the actual phone itself when it is out, hold it in the hand for feeling before deciding to buy or not.
It will be a good substitute for my Dopod900 (aka O2 XDA EXEC) only during my business trip visiting customers who ban cameras in phone.
This is like a cut down version of the P9xx.
When will it be out, seems overdue. M600 is waiting for Nokia E60 & E61?
SE has been lucky to intro touch screen butthe designs r patten as such boring.Mem Stks r expensive ad not easily availble as nokia mem cads even non branded.Pls incorporate optical zoom in ur nxt gen cells as MP gimick is fading out Thx......
I had the oppertunity to try the beta version of the phone, as it looks now there is no middle press.
This is a good phone non the less but gotta be the worse upcoming phone design here.
There maybe some true that the keys can be implemented the way you said.
Unless you are the one who design this phone, than you must be correct. If not, we will wait see. Well, I maybe wrong after all.
In my previous work designing phones, I have come across some mockup keyboards shown to me by my supplier which is call smart qwerty keys which operate the way mentioned in the previous posting.
If the button has 2 press (left & right) for say "E" & "R", to use Software to switch between text & numbers in SMS mode is a litle too troublesome, why not a straight 2 press on left & right together which is "1". There will be kind of Hardware+Software debouncing to ensure it is either right or left or right+left pressed.
" wanna camera? wait for M600i (coming soon)" vlad this is not right: the m600i is the same as m600 the "i" stands for european / us release. There is also an m600c this is the asian release. Both are the same and with out camera...
Quote from DRM: " From the picture, the key should be operating in this way,
- 2 switches for 1 button
- left press activate left switch which is "E" - right press activate right switch which is "R"
- middle press activate 2 switches which is "1"."
This is not correct: there is no middle press. The phone reconizes when you want the numbers or letters. For instance if you dial a number the letters are "switched of" and left or roght press does the same; showing the corresponding number on the screen. When typing a sms for instance requires selecting numbers or letters not both at the same time. another option is to select the number or letter in a smart pop-up box (at the top of the screen) which is always there to predict your words / letter combination.
In that case SE should add EDGE and WiFi and make it a real business phone. Why they didnt do it? Its simply doen't make any sense to me.
In my opinion it makes more sense to invest money on the phone technology rather than adding the likes of cameras, music players, etal. I look at a phone as a business tool. The combination of a phone with an organizer is a natural evolution. My experiences with the Symbian OS have been very good. It is a compact, fast OS that has strong stability. If you want toys go to the toy store.
I dont thinl this is a bad move 4 SE but they shud really consider a candybar phone running symbian OS without the UIQ format. Simple symbian is far more user friendly and more customizable. UIQ is quite a drag.
why is everyone hung up about cameras!!!
Camera's on mobiles are handy at times but they should never replace a digital camera.
Think this phone looks great and im sure most professional and business users really dont need/want a camera function.
Instead SE have yet again excelled themselves in listening to the people and doing a little market research on their target market.
Sony has 5 mp digital cameras and those are really thin. It wont be much trouble to put that 5mp with 3x optical zoom in the phone.Samsung already has 8mp cam phone with 3x optical zoom and its still 18.5mm. But then Sony will loose some digi-cam customers. So it make sense.
This phone loooks great. No camera Ok. But if it meant for business then why there is only 3G?? You can playback video but cant record one. Does business people listen to Mp3s in the break?..I wonder!
I think Sony is just flotaing the idea of non-camera phone and checking public reacton. And as I see here people like it that way too.
Is SE trying to start a trend ....where they are introducting phones without cameras so that they can boost their digi cam n camcorder sales.... hmmm probably....
Or maybe it's not feasible to build a gsm phone with a mega pixel cam like a 5.0 because it might make the phone a lot more bulkier.. makes sense doesn't it?
But I just feel they want to play safe with the pixels... so that they don't loose out on their other products....
I think its great NOT to have a Camera. Its useless I think. lack of radio is my only problem. Does anyone know When it will be available and how much is the Price ?
I wonder why Sony is insisting on Walkman-like phones. It's quite certain that Sony is top leader in musical devices. We want real phones with WLAN, E-mail, Personal Wallet, long lasting battery ,MS office applications when we are far away from home or office. Is it difficult to make some models with these features ? Damn!
