Hi, I read in the UK version of Stuff magazine in it's November issue that the Sony Ericsson P990i will be out in January.

I am a SE P800 owner. I upgraded to an I-mate Jam (similar to O2 Atom). Recently I had to go back to my P800 for a few days and I can tell you that the Atom type phone is much better if you are using the computer. If you want a cool phone, and don't really use the computer side much or don't need to synch a lot of docs, then the P990 should be great. For me, I need a computer first.

This doesn’t look like what we expected.
Looks really great! I had P800 and now I have P910i. I do not think that I will buy this phone. I don’t know what the idea was but this phone looks that it has a smaller display than the others PXXX. And this is because they put the keys directly in the phone. Pity for the clearly evolved software and hardware but I need a smart phone with a big display.

Hi, is the Microsoft Windows Mobile™ 5.0 or Opera™ 8 better as a web browser? What's the difference? Thanks!

I think the closest competitor the P990i, as a palmtop, has now is the O2 XDA Atom. Both has 2 megapixel cameras, MP3, wifi, radio and touchscreen. But the P990i wins over being 3G, having a camera in front. Moreover, P990i should have a better camera with autofocus and better sound quality. But O2 XDA Atom has stereo speakers too. I think N80 is good too with a 3 megapixel camera and image stabilisation for its video recording. However, it doesn't have touchscreen which is good for webpage browsing.

I emailed MobileWorld because they stated on their website that they are selling the P990 for US$500:

Hi, I have a query. The Sony Ericsson P990i is slated for sale in March 2006. May I know why it's possible for you to sell it at US$500 vefore it's official lanuch? I'm interested in the phone so I am curious about it. Thanks!

This is their reply:

The phone is not oficially released yet but many vendors are already selling
it.
We also have the Sony Ericsson P990 in stock already.

Sincerely,
MobileWorld Sales Department

I am not sure if that's true since P990 seems to still be in development. However, if that's true, I would be much pleased, though I don't think I should get my hopes up high because I believe the earliest Sony Ericsson will release this phone is in late January.

Wow, March is an awfully long wait. I didn't think it will come out in January since Sony Ericsson will want to wait for W900 to be marketed sufficiently, but am hoping that it will come out in Feburary. But then P990 is Sony Ericsson's IT thing, so think they will launch it suitably as late as possible. Moreover, they have 3 new low end phones to be released, so they would want to release some of these phones first. Well, so March sounds reasonable from a marketing perspective. But still, it's an awfully long wait. I would love for it to be out by late January or early Feburary.

Hi, I am just an interested buyer but I would like to know your opinions. Do you think the O2 XDA Atom is better or this Sony Ericsson P990 is better as a palm phone. I would think the P990 is better but O2 Atom is out by the 2nd week of December, so I'm a bit tempted to buy it first, though I prefer P990 for having 3G.

Hi, does anyone knows specifically when P990 when come out in the 1st quarter, around January, Feburary or March? I love the phone. Pity it's only 2 megapixel camera. Otherwise, it's a great phone jam-packed with everything and possibly the best phone to come, of touch-screen and wi-fi is appealing to anyone like me! I just can't wait. Was thinking of Nokia N80 because it has a 3 megapixel camera but it doesn't have touch screen or O2 Atom but it doesn't have 3G.

Whats the use of a PDA phone packed with internet features but with a screen size of a regular phone? Its bad enough trying to view internet downloads, spread sheets, PDF and word documents with the P910i. God Help those who intend to use this Phone for those uses.
