Spent quite some time with this phone the other day. Must firstly say that compared
to the W580, the S500 has a TFT display that's about twice as bright as the W850.
The design is lightweight and slim, I was especially impressed by the lighting effects of the black unit. Lastly, the navigation button isn't a jog wheel, sorry to dissapoint anyone out there (incl. myself)
Great phone anyways, but a downpurchase from the W850.

Actually iam SonyEricsson phones fan i like only SonyEricsson phones they r all cool S500 is good looking better irda and fm are available in this phone

talk about great looks.... but SE come on, no 3G? you guys need to pack phones like that with matching features, 3G is a basic today its not a feature its a requirement.
Still tho, the colour scheme is fantastic

basically it's a reminiscent of W580 but in rather better design. call this nokia way but not in style department because it's a samsung way=D

No 3G? I cant even think a phone without 3G anymore. I have had this Nokia N70 for 8 months now and 3G has become very important feature to me, so please SE make these good looking phones with 3G

this just simply awesome..
too bad they left out 3G and autofocus for the cam...
but still it looks great...
gonna wait til it comes out...
then see whether the price nice ornot

Another thing with this new S series is that the themes actually match the color of the phone now.
For the W580 and it's gray/cyan color version, the background was still orange, though it matched the white/orange version of the phone.
Personally, if I can flash the OS to get walkman, and still have the ever-changing wallpaper and matching theme, then this is the phone for me.
Also, I think the S series is also a page straight from the Japanese SE phones. They're all like this, and appearantly, we get a piece of their stylish phones too without wasting money on a phone that won't even work here, just to have it for style.

a k750i can be flash upgraded to w810i ie ur standard issue k750i can have walkman on it. im sure the same can be applied for the s500 and the w580.
so in regards to the question raised earlier ---> what is the difference between the S500 and the W580 ASIDE from the new exterior design?
Nothing, the S500 lacks the walkman capabilities but other than that ur essentially buying the same phone. If you use your phone for MP3 then im sure you'll be able to flash the OS to walkman.
when abouts will it come out? i am guessing around quarter 2 since thats what the GSM article says. the w580i from memory is q3
