this is the 3rd model i've owned, this is when i started disliking call quality. Can anybody tell me how to tell the bitrate/codec used for voice transmission on cell phones?

To Ciggy asking about SE J300 or T610/t630. The j300 has far superior technology to the t610/30. I don't know the exact memory capabilities for sms messages, but it is most likely that the j300 has more. If i HAD to buy one I wouldn't pay any more than £15 (US$30) for a t610/30. Even then you could get far more capable devices for a little more (eg. an s700i on ebay for £23).

the infrared port is at the top of the phone. like in the middle of the top of the phone.

this was the start of good things for SE ericsson..
The k700 was popular but still rubbish.. then w800 just smacked it and was great!

This fone was the winner for the best design at that time... It's so elegant... Nice machine hardware... Even it's almost 5 years in my hand... But still work properly. Only the joystick that has problem... But everything is ok. Bluetooth, IrDA, best colour screen (at the time)...
