Sony Ericsson

great phone, but again, the size of the screen ruins it. almost there, SE.

Good phone! Finally SE got rid of their stupid joystick which easily breaks after weeks of usage..This one has a bter design than W800/K750..But I would've have prefered if SE put stereo speakers like W550i than the useless EDGE...who cares about EDGE?Normal people who want internet access would use a computer than a mobile phone!

Ok, it looks cooler than my w800, but why worse battery, worse memory, and no lens cover? Where is w900's internal memory? where is dedicated 3.5 jack (no dongle!)? I will wait for w series clamshell, or w820i -- PLEASE DONT COMPROMISE

the non inclusion of the lens cover i think is expected from a walkman phone. it further emphasizes that walkman phones are meant for enhanced music playback and not imaging (though the imaging capabilities of the walkman phones are at par with the brilliant camera phone k750)just like the non inclusion of a more qualitative headset in k750 (as was in w800) was intended to imply that k750's foremost offering is imaging. W800 just got a lens cover because it was the world's first walkman phone. And SE wanted to introduce w800 positively.

this phone is not better than nokia 3250 by much just the camera is
the screen is smaller, and its not a smartphone neither, (means it cannot have quickoffice or any other can of program of it)
40 vs 64 channels
maybe by taste but really i prefer nokia's ui alot.
its really on people taste ok?

to all people that think this phone is bad because it is similar to the w800 or k750, this is an "upgrade". it is not really intended to get the people that already own the w800 or k750 to buy this, but give people that dont already own those phones more option. i personally own a k750. and this phone targets a different market as w900. this phone supports edge, which is widely used in north america. w900 only has 3G, which is currently unsupported in north america. w810 is quad band, meaning it is better as a world phone than its predecessors.

Hey what's the big fuss? this is another duplicate of the K750 and W800, tell me what's the big difference except with the not so popular "edge" technology and..? and....and....nothing more to offer! But if you own a K750 or W800 don't be lure into buying this "same" phone just because it a difference model, they are ALL the SAME phone with the almost same software and hardware in it, maybe a few tweak!

the w900 is still a much better phone than this despite the size but this phone they should have put a 3 mega pixel camera and added more features cuz it is pretty much the same at k750 and w800, i dunno why sony did this, really dissapointed!!

less internal memory, better design, EDGE (at last!) - i wonder - is this only Walkman mark II, or will be some upgraded k750i? k760i, or sth?

Clearly it seems to be a phone targeted especially for the North American market, taken how it's quadband and comes with EDGE, rather than WCDMA or just triband. This model is too much of a music phone for my needs, but I bet that this is certainly a better choice than the ROKR, if you're planning to buy a music phone. Lack of lens protection is a minus, but that just seems to be the way eg. Nokia deals with it too.

Would have been more interesting to see this one with WCDMA as a cheaper incarnation of the W900i, but as I said about the North American market, EDGE is a better option for that market, taken how awkward the US is in terms of 3G.

Oh, and to the one who claimed EDGE is faster: No, it's not. Not on paper or when actually in use. Furthermore 3G/WCDMA/UMTS isn't just about pure data transmission bandwidth, but also features such as video calls. Please don't state false facts, when you're clearly not aware of what EDGE is or isn't.

San

If SE's previous announce-release policy is anything to go by it should hit the shops of western Europe in around 2 months. (Don't know if you're european, you didn't say)

SE say Q1 2006 and the vast majority of the time, they stick to their word.

As TheOneDazz said earlier today, the only real exception to this rule is SE's smartphones and by this I think he was referring to the P990. To be truthful though I think they only announced this as early as they did to make people aware of the fact there was competition for the Nokia communicators. Nokia announced their 9300i (too early again as usual) so it made sense for SE to announce their flagship model at roughtly the same time. They'll both end up hitting the shops at the same time too. Probably about the same time as the W810. Around March I'd say.
