i just download mp3's from whereever and drag and drop onto the memory stick to keep it simple, you could sign up to mp3 services online i bet.

to dwithtmobile:
but just wondering, do you have the same blank standby screen like i do? it's pretty lame.
also i bet if you search around you can find out how to unlock the phone to work with any service provider.
I got mine sim free so itll work with anyone.

Got my phone, owned it for two days, it works great. I am trading with my sister, because her phone is not made to work on her network (Cingular, W800i). I think after playing with both, I love the improved playing features, and handling of the w810i, so I will sell this, but first order another off of ebay again. Does anyone here know of any music subscription services aside from sony that might work with this phone?

Yeah it does get annoying and I think that sony messed up on this firmware out the door because all other sony ericssons have a standby clock option or no standby at all, I saw the standby clock for a second! haha hope they get this fixed. and yes hot swapping memory stick duos is nice and easy and extremely fast, I'm using a Sandisk ultra II 1gb card, the w810i came with a SANDISK 512mb in the phone in the box with a standard memory stick adapter.

and in 'normal' mode (not standby) the time is shown on the bottom left and the date is shown in the bottom right; HR:MM am/pm, 03/29/06.

the standard theme is the orange walkman theme and all the backlight buttons are orange, so i might just keep this theme since it goes well altogether

feel free to ask more, cause i'm still discovering this phone all over again myself..

When the phone is in standby mode and the screen is "normal", does the time and clock show or just the clock..??

My nokia 6230, 3200 and the V551 also go completely blank after a few minutes of non use. Its very annoying and i have not figured a way to stop it. But yeah, once it goes blank... u cant read anything.

Back to the W810i, since this is a "hot" swap memory stick unlike my 6230, i can just remove the stick with ease and throw it into my card reader and be done and not worry about bluetoothing it over and loosing resolution...

messages can only be saved to the sim memory, not elsewhere.. not that i know of or see as an option.. the top three circular control pad buttons are pretty darn small, i'm still trying to get used to it.. i send sony ericsson a message about the blank standby screen so we'll see about a response. once when it was blank and standing by i pressed a button and saw the standby clock for a moment, but that's it!?!

To James:
The reason why i suggested the bluetooth transfer is cause i currently have the nokia 6230i which does not have a hot swap memeory stick. On this phone the memory stick in internal. Which means i have to shut the phone off, remove the battery cover, remove the battery and then remove the memory stick and throw it into my card reader. That gets very annoying and tire-some. So i just purchased a bluetooth dongle to bluetooth all my pics and video's from the phone to my computer. This way takes less time and less effort.
This same method of sending pics from the phone to the computer via bluetooth for some reason drops the pic resolution from the full 2mp down to vga 640 x 480. It also does this on the K750i and the W800. Not sure why this happens, but it does and a lot of people have experienced this.
But it seems to work fine when u guys do the transfer via data cable.. But its only via bluetooth where this problem resides..

the camera mode is also very intuitive and similar to cybershots. Images are not downgraded, though i don't try to use bluetooth to transfer, i just plug my memory stick duo into my vaio to keep it simple, but i don't see why using bluetooth would alter the files in any way. a PLUS is that there is now an option of capturing 'normal' or 'fine' images. There are also 4 different shutter sounds available which is whatevers. I'm starting to get annoyed about the blank standby screen, it doesnt show the clock or anything like missed calls or messages. The RADIO function is still there and you still have to attach the headset which works as an antennea too.

To James:
Take a full 2mp picture, save it into your phone's memory and upload it to your computer via data cable if u have it and see if the picture maintains the 2mp resolution. Or if u have the bluetooth dangle, see if u can bluetooth that same picture from the phone to the computer and see if the resolution stays the same at 2mp...
Some people are claiming that when they bluetooth this 2mp picture from the phone to their computer, the phone is re-sizing the picture down to VGA 640 x 480.
Im just wondering if this is a software issue that SE has missed or the bluetooth capabilities is limited to 640 x 480 transfer

To Lee:

I know exactly how you feel as I am trying to do the very same thing, upgrade from my D500.

I do not understand why the sales team would be able to make orders but not the upgrade team, surely they should be looking after current customers as well as new customers?!?

just got the phone today, very intuitive and similar to the k750i i had, the difference being this is a walkman player with a better walkman player showing artist/album/song titles more organized and allowing you to browse thru playlists and more without inturrupting the playback. another difference being the light sensor which adjusts the backlight to the surrounding lighting conditions. also i noticed one feature that is missing is the standby clock, they took that out! so now there is just a blank screen when the phone goes into standby which is pretty lame, i hope firmware updates add this back. the center control keypad is small and takes some getting used to to navigate, but is better than the joystick (which i found to break down in my k750i after a year's use), so that is an improvement. the phone has a great smooth feel with a solid construction without any gaps. the numerical buttons feel good when pressed (i must admit better than the k750i because these buttons are spaced apart). phone is great though pricey, but is a great camera, walkman, cellular, and organizer.

To Ezekiel:
My brother has done this same thing with his V551, SE 710 and now working on his current nokia 6270. Basically he had to call cingular to activate the service, then download the software onto his computer. This software is just a program that u open up that allows u to gain internet access thru the cell phone. Now to get it from the cell phone to the computer he used bluetooth. He purchased a bluetooth usb dongle that allows the cell phone to transfer pics to the computer. So basically what happens is that the cell phone will download the internet data and then transmit it to the computer via bluetooth. Its not very fast, its like dial up speed ~56k...But you must pay for this data service thru your provider. We did it up NYC when we had no internet access at the place we were at. Hope this helps..

You guys need to drop O2 and look somewhere else. I just went to ebay and found 17 different W810i phone's for sale. And 4 of those phone's are from a company that i have personally purchased phone's from b4 so i know they are trust worthy. There are so many other companies out there that have these phone's already.
You guys need to stop being lazy and search the web and drop that 02 place cause they are giving u the run-around. Now unless u like to get pist and love hearing their excuses then go ahead and call them. The cheapest i have seen is $464 for this phone plus shipping. Some of these companies out there are lowering the price of the phone to trick u in thinking that u are getting it for that cheap, but in tern they are jacking up the shipping price way too high. I know for a fact that here in the USA if u ship a cell phone from one side of the country to another via UPS ground or fed ex ground it should Not cost more than $9 period. I know cause i have done it. And most of these places are charging up to $50 for shipping to compensate for the "low" phone price... Open your eyes and read...
Again, u crying babies need to drop O2 and go somewhere else....
