w850 great fone The vibration strength is pretty sufficient to do its job. You can set the handset to answer your incoming call automatically when you open the slider, but the strangest of it all is that closing it up doesn't end the call. The only reason for that that we could think of is that the Sony Ericsson engineers didn't want the automatic feature to prevent you talking with the phone closed. The same holds true for the automatic key lock. It engages every time you close the slider as long as you close it from standby view. If you happen to close it while you are somewhere in the menu, the key lock doesn't work at all.
When it comes to the real eye catcher, that most positively must be the large 2" TFT display capable of displaying 262K colors in a QVGA resolution. The colors are vivid and pleasant. The contrast is nice, too. Thanks to the available light sensor, the display brightness varies according to the available ambient light and respectively gets boosted in bright daylight and gets dimmed in the dark. The only flaw that we might find with the display is that it is a magnet for fingerprints. When it comes to using it under direct sunlight, it scores just the same as K800 - pretty legible, but we've seen better. In fact, currently, maybe Nokia makes the most successful legibility-under-sun-proof displays. But that's just our opinion. There is no way to test that objectively. Speaking of legibility, we've seen a lot worse TFT displays too, so the Sony Ericsson ones score somewhere in the middle.
A flashy keypad
The keypad features some really nice features that are worth mentioning along with some really bad solutions. If you've ever wondered what exactly the orange plastic thing just below the display is for, the answer is that in fact it is a shortcut key for starting the Walkman music player. Just above it, right at the display base, there is a metallic edge, on which you can rest your thumb when trying to open or close the slider. Undoubtedly, when doing this you are almost prone to start the music player accidentally. But you can get used to this in the course of time.
On both sides of the Walkman key there are a couple of round context keys, which are rather comfortable to work with. Below the Walkman key, you can see the unusual navigation pad and four other keys - the Back key, the Web browser key, the correction C key and finally, the Activity menu key.
great fone for great pakisatni peoples
oh yeah, one more thing. does any1 have a same thinking like me, that HPM 70 headset little bit fragile? it easy to broke and i just think that the sounds sometimes can be so bad and sometimes good...is it just my ear or maybe any1 have a same experience with me?
whats your email.
i'll give you the picture of my w850 broken keypad...
the cracks is in the down and up buttons. but down side more obvious to see...
FYI. the cracks appears after i buy it only 2 weeks...
but it doesnt mean this phone bad. i like this phone. the feature is gr8. the best i have ever had. the problems is only with the d-pad that looks like build from very cheap material.
Have been using the W850 since December.
Great phone... however i have been having problems with it for a while.
Yes my D-pay has cracked, and my buttond on the right side of the phone stopped working as well as various others on the top of the phone as well as on the bottome keypad.
I send the phone into be repaired 3X already to SE centre and each time it came back and the problems came back.
They have since replaced the phone and the new one is working well... However they made me pay for the new one!!!! and it's till under warrenty. That just Pi**ed me off!! BIG TIME!! stating its an admistrative fee!!
Has anyone found the bug that when answering the phone using the slide function the no. is not recored in the answered call list (vodafone live SW)??
i bought this phone just one week ago.... and I love e phone...
Can anybody tell me about the pix taken wif e phone? Why does it display dark pix? Is it only happening in my phone?Or is it because of the light sensor? i've compared it to the W810i... The display brightness is much more better....
People on here often ask which phone is better, the K800 OR THE W850? Well, now that i have owned both handsets, i shall give my opinion. Basically, if your looking for a really good music phone more than a good camera phone, get the w850. If your looking for a really good camera phone more than a good music phone get the K800. However, if your not bothered either way, having had both of these handsets, i would say that the w850 is the better phone, because out of the 2 comprimise situations for both phones, the w850 has the better comprimise as its camera is rather good, the mp3 player on the k800 does the job but its just ok, not good. Also, it doesnt have the joystick which from experience can be a pain. I think also the w850 looks nicer and has a better keypad. However, they are both very good phones so whichever one you get, im sure it wont dissapoint!
I just got my new phone today and i am loving it. The mp3 playback on this phone (with my own pair of 3.5mm earphones pluged into the included adaptor) is brilliant sound wise, it has made my mp3 player redundant. Its so easy to navigate through your songs. The included memory is more thatn enough for me (1gb). The camera takes some decent pictures and records good videos. The user interface is easy to use and the display is really large and clear. Some people say that the sliding mechanism is a bit flimsy, but, i have looked at it and i have decided that the sliding mechanism is fine, its the "D pad" (the 4 direction navigation keys) thats quite loose that makes it feel like the slider is jerking. In have only found 2 negatives, first, when you slide the phone up, its quite slow to respond to get out of sleep mode, although its only about a second before the home screen comes up. Also, pressing the down button on the "d pad" can take time getting used to as its quite stiff because its right on the edge of the bottom of the phone. However, this is a brilliant phone and i would recommend it to anyone!
I am mercy and sony ericsson w850 very is a very nice phone. any body who will say something bad about this phone does'nt know any thing bout phones.
congratulation and keep it up
In every aspect w850 is far far better than n70,w850 have a great display, great look, can attend video call(3G) or edge, and 2 mega pixel camera, and a full fledged 2.0 version walkman for better music interface.
I've got the white one.. It's so cute.. The sounds are good too.. Loved the features.. The camera can be adjusted for red eye, night mode etc..(like digital camera).. There's alsoa light but Just a question, How do I lock my notes so that it cant be view or excess for anybody?
I've been using this phone for 4 months now, it still great, no cracking D-Pad. The slider is extremely flimsy, even though I rarely using the slider. The onboard speaker is unbeatable still, great sound and loud. Only M600/W950 beats it but not as loud
If anyone want to buy this phone, take good care, sliding it slowly until it fully open or it will loose in a few weeks like my friends W850. About the D-pad, DON'T press the whole pad, just pressing the rounded button is good enough by using nail. If you want to press the pad, press it gently
