gka, i work for a mobile phone company in the UK and a high percentage of people i speak to have sony ericsson phones, so while you or i may not think that they are very good they sell very well and people are very happy with their SE phones so they must be doing something right.

there is something that s.e. should know ... its that they are loosing the war in the mobile world cuz they are releasing these kind of too much classic looking phones to the market ... even samsung have found there own way with the designing quality of there phones u can see that clearly by clicking the samsung phone list tab in this web site ... & nokia is still on the top of the mobile world as they were before ... s.e. phones have been the second popular but looks like people are going out of s.e. now if s.e. wont start making new designs and introduce new phone models to the world they will still be crushed by nokia as always and this time they will be crushed by samsung too ... or maybe s.e. will be crushed by lg phones ... even nokia 6121 & 6120 classic phones are better designed than this w890 ... whats wrong with s.e. these days ... are they trying to go to the stone age or something ...

the 6500 classic lacks a memory card slot (with free 2gb card), accelerometer, dedicated volume and camera keys, secondary video call camera, FM radio, HSDPA and it's camera is only 2MP.
there are tradeoffs with every phone, especially ones this slim. i think SE have done incredibly well to fit all this into such a slim phone. i like the 6500 classic but in terms of features (it being walkman phone) and it's battery life the w890 is much 'better'.

Ohhh so the Nokia 6500 classic with dual flash is an exception...dude there is no limit to how much miniaturization a device can handle...I've seen microphones the size of a tick...and so on and so forth...dony needs to invest in research...create a more efficient OS, build camera phones with Cybershot camera modules, introduce touchscreen, build common sense connectors: line-out (music phone wtf!!), 3,5 mm out, micro-usb..., fast processor and loads of RAM...put all that SONY know-how to work...and integrate near-PSP gaming so that it can compete with N-Gage (wtf they are using JAVA 8 and an accelerometer against the N-gage...that what they call creativity o.O)....they have one of the largest electronic company in the world and they want to oppose the Nseries using these phones....sad...

there is no flash because the phone is less than a centimetre thick.
there are no phones this size with flashes. deal with it.

I like this phone. The absence of flash and autofocus cannot stop me from buying it. I'd rather buy a separate digital camera. But if they will release a w810-w610 successor soon, I'll choose it.

livio: I somewhat agree to what you said.
I don't think SE would be creating N-series line anytime soon. Whether it's development costs, research, etc, it will be a bit costly to do so. Although that idea would be great but remember how long it took the p-series to come out one phone after another. (Maybe the perfect the ease of use?). Plus, this phone is probably needed for its market.
What I totally agree with you for this phone is the lack of some important features. How useful is a 3.15mp camera without a damn flash? TV-out would be great, since Nokia has it since the N93. Walkman features are great but it's hard for customers to commit when important features are missing. I'm not expecting wi-fi, but at least make the camera decent for once(even the w810 has flash, wat gives?) Sadly my w580 is collecting dust, because my P1i does everything except the walkman features. No offence, but I very rarely listen to a song on my phone, 'cause I want to have battery to make calls in times of need.

Ok:
1) The name checked under the comment is the name of the guy who made it...I never said it did not have walkman 3.0 or all the other stuff...
2) Phones are 1 step away from being transformed into universal multimedia device...the factor that restrains them from doing so is not battery life but the level of miniaturization the components have to endure...don't forget, the n82 - probably the best camera phone out there is by no means a small device...
3) nanotechnology and the latest research in creating self-sufficient energy cells will allow phones in the near future to have a great camera so the days of 3110 are long gone...
4) It's price is set to be higher than a mere 278 $$ so get your facts straight...at that money they should have included a few of the improvements I mentioned bellow without spending a s*it-load of money ;) the dedicated xenon flash and autofocus as well as a standard 3,5 mm jack are not that expensive to build :))
overall, SE-Walkman Phones are good music solution but they could do better seeing as the N-series phones can do a lot more things and still provide good music experience (nokia n82, n82, n73-ME etc). SE should build their own N-series based on the P-series...using a new more user-friendly UIQ 4. Let's hope they'll do this in the future :)

Dude, why are you telling him how often he uses the camera on his phone?
You need to understand that convergence of devices goes through stages and the first efforts are always a bit crappy.
The speed of cameras in phones is developing cameras could be replaced by phones for all but professional photographers.
The only thing holding back phones from becoming truly great Camera, walkman, movie playing gps devices and mobile offices is battery life.
Dude you want just a phone, stick with a nokia 3310

DUDE, if its a phone not a camera, why does it cost $600? because its $2 worth of stainless steel? or mediocre walkman player?

w890 has walkman player 3. $278 USD? what is your source? ANYONE KNOWS WHEN IT ACTUALLY COMES OUT???? I KNOW IT IS 1 QUOTER OF 2008, BUT WHAT IS AN ACTUAL MONTH?????????
livio
w890 DOES have walkman player 3. Not only that, it has auto rotation. Just because it is not on this web, it doesn't mean it doesn't have it.
and how come you say it isn't important and then you list it as a negative?
It is important btw. at least for me, because I am in LOVE with the navigation thing in walkman 3 player.
@Digi customer servic
you don't, i don't, but it is an important factor for others, because most have a limited budget. I am not saying I am rich, I just don't like saving on something I am going to make a good use every day. Save on kitchen knifes, refrigerator, vacuum or something... not the phone.

It seems by the pictures, that it doesn't have a fotolight or flash.
I also miss the autofocus. The last walkman phone with autofocus camera was w810i. :(
I also wonder if they solved the playlist order problem. (I haven't met with a walkman phone wich could sort playlists by name)

This looks a great bit of kit.. w880i was a big let down n i went back to my w810 which i think is fantastic.. It's NEVER let me down. Anyone who says ANY nokia "n-series" phone is better is just tryin to make themselves feel better coz they've got such unreliable over priced crap!!! I'm a phone dealer so i know!!!! We get them in everyday with problems... especially the N95!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
