tsk tsk. Poor display. 3.2 cam only. Touchscreen for nothing. Small screen size small to touch with the stylus or of your fingertips. Not that good OS. And a box type kinda phone.

also in the USA website in went to the phone setup and w960 is listed on their. i went to the UK website and it has a coming soon star and its not listed on the phone setup.
IS IT AVAILABLE BCZ I WANT IT NOW !!!!!!!

when approximately will this phone release? and what will its price be? sony ericsson has finally hit the nail on the head with this one... i wonder why they continue with the k700i-k750i joystick in some of their latest cybershot phones... i owned a k750i for 2 years, and the first thing that went was the joystick... i dropped it in a bucket of water... the screen blanked out.. i took it out, dried it and 2 days later it worked like nothing had happened :D

I think you misread what I was saying. I did not say I "disliked" mobiles and nor am I a brand b!tch. So long as the phone operates perfectly as a "phone", looks good and is pocket-friendly then I'm interested. I find a mobile phone essential as a phone, nothing more. Most people on this site seem to find a mobile essential as a camera/MP3 player/games console and nothing more...
I was saying why do people make such a big deal of "third rate" features on mobile phones and why have they forgotten that the principle operation of a mobile is, believe it or not, to communicate.
In which case things like a camera, wi-fi, storage, etc should be secondary considerations, not primary. This is because certain phones (like my current D900) are very clumsy at what they are principly designed for - like texting. Which is why I can't wait to dump it for the Nokia 6500 which is slim and runs Symbian - an excellent OS.
The W960 is a gorgeous looking phone, but it is a bit on the "big" side, plus if I use it as a MP3 player, etc then calling people is going to be very, very frustrating because I am never going to have any battery life remaining. So it has put me off - the features of this phone have actually hindered, not enhanced it. And if I am not using them, then why should I consider this phone if there are slimmer and potentially more "able" (in terms of phoning, texting, internet access, etc), yet less "feature-packed" (which are not a consideration because of their major flaws), phones out there?
Also, as I have said, even wi-fi is pointless if you have 3G - 3G can connect you to the internet using far, far less battery power.
With regards to a phones features, they might hold some weight if a) none of us owned cameras, PCs, games consoles, MP3 players, etc or b) said features were as good as their standalone hardware.
But wo do own what's listed in a) and it will be a very, very long time before the features of a mobile exceed what I have stated in b).
In which case, why is everyone so concerned about the scabby "features" of a mobile? Who cares?
I would prefer they left out cameras and everything else until they had properly nailed bettery life and producing first rate integrated cameras/MP3 players meaning that we as consumers no longer need to buy cameras, iPods, etc as standalone devices because our mobiles are perfect replacements - something which is currently the complete opposite.
Digital convergence will eventually happen, but purchasing mobiles with flawed and already dated features like 5MP cameras - which are only just beginning to get proper flash - or 8GB MP3 players which aren't as good as standalone devices seems pointless, not least when you consider battery life limitations coupled with the fact that these very features hinder the phones original intentions - to communicate.
Why take snaps all day and listen to music for a few hours when the whole reason why you have a phone - to call or communicate with someone - you can't do because you have been using the "secondary" features of your phone and you have run out of battery life? It is counterproductive and almost ironic in it's flawed design and premise.
So to sum up what I am saying: I use a mobile for communications, nothing more. This is because the inbuilt camera/MP3 player etc uses up valuable battery life which I need for the principle reason as to why I own a mobile. These features are also no where near as good as a standalone MP3 player, camera, etc (which do not use up my mobile phone battery). Combine this with poor battery life and you are left wondering why everyone makes such a big fuss about features?
Would you rave about the latest Ferrari if it didn't quite have the fastest engine and only did 5 miles to the gallon? And if you get what I am saying, then I am suprised you have not noticed that the latest mobiles are no different...

Totally agree with what mFDH says... I can't understand why ppl say they want this n that on a phone and when they get it, all they do is complain about the battery life or that it freezes etc.
U can't have ya cake n eat it...
That said, I look fwd to when this phone comes out cos it does look impressive & u can't go far wrong with SE!

Amen to mFDH - the real opinion of a "customer" is what the Mobile Industry values and needs. Critical analysis by others that hold no weight as potential customers or sales representatives to brands like LG, Nokia, Samsung and SE are viewed as unimportant or simply...Spam!
Really, read, if nothing else, what mFDH has to say - its long, but the facts are clear and accurate (I checked that wi-fi thing, its true).
I look forward to the release of this phone...
...and so does the lining of my pockets...on my right thigh :D

I currently own a Nokia 5700. It works great on music and calls.
The overall performance is impressive.
But after seeing W960, I'm more than amazed. It made me decide that this will be my next music phone. More memory, better camera and also made by one fine mobile maker.
Hope that this will come out by Christmas time. I love this one.

my father loved SE but downgraded to nokia n70 he thinks its beta than w800 hope to proof him wrong with w960

Good work SE looking forward to checking this one out in the store. Might replace my k800 that is an exelent phone. My reasons for upgrading would be: that the joystick is getting harder to use, 8 gb of memory i nice, same resolution but bigger screen makes for nicer viewing experince, touchscreen seems fun to use if maby not so useful, stereo bluetoth headset, keeping allready good features as 3.2 mp autofocus SE camera, solid SE design and build quality, 3G.

i have used sonyericsson since telecommunication came to my country but i have not seen a phone like this it's simply gorgeous plz let this baby out for me,i can't wait to have this phone in my arms.

My argument is basically that people are looking at the features of a new mobile FIRST, without recongnising the fact that its principle design is as a telephone, nothing else.
In which case, the added extras (like camera, wi-fi, etc) are hardly worth debate, are they? The camera/camcorder/gaming capacity will always be limited and will not replace stand-alone camera/consoles/PCs etc for a very, very long time, if ever. And certainly not if they carry on using the primitive mobile batteries which are currently in use.
A mobile should NOT be praised on the merits of its featues - this is just stupid. It should be praised for its ease to communicate with people (i.e. Samsung's are clumsy at texting, etc) - after all, its principle use is as a phone. Clearly pocket-friendlyness is also very important, as is the phones look.
Which is one thing Nokia has really f*cked up for the past 5 years, up until this year with the launch of the 6300/6500.
Features are nice if you use them regularly, but if you are going to be using wi-fi a dozon or so times a year, take some grainy pictures in a club every now and then and own things like an digital camera, iPod, PSP, etc - why are the features on a phone such a big deal?
They are not essential, merely added extras. So why the big debate? And why the butt-f*cking of every latest "feature" packed phone that ever gets released?
I could have got an N95 free on contract - allegedly the best phone on the market thanks to its "features" - but declined because it is vomit-inducingly obese, horrendously ugly and is about as cool as Ned Flanders.
I couldn't care less about GPS, wi-fi, 5MP camera - I WOULD if I didn't already own a good camera, PC, etc.. All I want is a nice looking phone, pocket friendly which can communicate without problems. If I need to get directions, I'll use my computer and print off a map. Or i'll use a actual GPS. Wi-fi? 3G can connect you to the internet wihtout wi-fi. All wi-fi does is sap the battery. Now what if you want to do what you your phone was actually designed for (which clearly most people on this site have forgotten about) and call someone?..
Otherwise, even though I cannot live without the internet, I have never been out-and-about anywhere where I have been that desperate to use the net that it has been a problem.
Camera? Even the 5MP on the N95 is flawed. My Canon takes far superior photos and if I am going somewhere where I want to take snaps, then I bring as good a camera as I have. And it most certainly isn't the N95.. So basically, the N95 camera, despite being "cutting-edge" in the mobile world, is good for utility photos only.
So taking into account what I have said, and considering my consumer needs are the same as the majority, why the big deal then you geeks?
Or do you not own a camera? Or a PC? Never heard of games console? Cannot live without the net for a few hours down the shops? Sure...

the 8gig is not a ground breaking experience. N91 release 4gigs for the past 2 years. Did u considerd it a groundbreaking? N95 now going 8gigs. Iphone has 4 or 8gigs. And about the battery of n95 the battery's fine they exagerate thier coments concerning bout the battery of it. N now this w960
Phone this phone is fine. But it lacks some important features. And stil a 3.2 mega. Where talking bout 5 mega n0w.

Argh! People of the likes of Vish need to throw away their phones and start up with pigeons again. One mobile cannot have everything, without loosing out on something else.
N95, the phone I wanted - now I know it has low battery life, doesn't mean I still don't want it. It means I'd like an alternative.
Hopefully though a mobile does come out that will replace Blackberries, PDA's and Sat-nav's :D
Then we will have nothin to argue about...

To mJZx, you don't understand the motive behind my post. It stated how irritated I was with people complaining about features that are absent on ground-breaking mobiles.
Tell me what is wrong with this mobile, with evidence to support the cause and I may agree with you. You've shown a higher degree of knowledge concerning, multimedia devices, as you call them, than the others here that just post with lack of judgement; condemning mobiles that are not in their brand.
lol, like they can really start brand wars. It is true, communication and technology work hand in hand - never once did I say it didn't. Just to let you know, I do not buy mobiles because of their brand. You seem to think me and ixiw are sole buyers of SE.
I have never had one. Yet I defend this one from ignorant customers - because really, which mobile has ever had 8Gb? It is ground breaking and should not be so heavily criticised especially before its release. No one has tried it.
And until someone does, its pointless to judge by specifications and pictures alone.
