The new firmware
I have noticed a SLIGHT improvement in GUI speeds. Not as laggy, but still not a decent improvement (better than nothing I guess).
Camera quality seems to have decreased - have to use a bit more to know fully.
Music - bass is slightly increased. Me being a high-end audiophile, the difference is there, but again, the difference is only slight. Treble / high-ends seem constant / unchanged.
Visual bugs that I saw in the previous firmware are still present on the new one.
Although I would suggest upgrading the firmware to fix possible problems, you HAVE to backup your data. The update will format the memory and you will lose whatever is inside the phone. Too bad the W980 don't have a memory card since I couldn't backup my applications (and I don't use the SE Suite - too much bloatware involved). The phone's firmware also resets EVERYTHING setting-wise. Basically, it is like starting your phone from a factory state - you have to re-set everything to your liking. I should have waited till the update via GUI was available... Updating via PC should need approx. 80MB (depending on what firmware you have now and where you live)

i'm torn between w508 and w980 :p...someone please advise me...
which phone should i go for???
not much difference in the price between w508 and w980 at my place...difference is in the range RM20-RM80 (i'm from malaysia)
i like w508's design but i also like the clear bass function in w980(design.so-so)...
someone..please help me!!!

i noticed the mic is located just below the walkman key...the mic is covered by our face, doesn't that affect our voice clarity and loudness???
w980 users...do you face any in-call quality/clarity problem???
overall, how's the call quality/clarity/loudness...even if the mic isn't blocked by the face???

Guys i need your help. I am considering to buy w980. I read a review that i lack DSP which mean outcoming sound is less details. Based on your experience, Is it true?
When you're listening music and at the same time sms or email come, is music stay stabil or become laggy?

Your country could simply have stopped shipping it in. Simple. Maybe it ain't being sold very well where you live.
I know here that the W902 is a real slow seller and most importers have stopped shipping that in.
Sony Ericsson is still making these phones, but their priority is now on phones like the Aino (that is, no Cyber-Shot and Walkman branding); they are focusing on 'all-in-ones' now so we won't be seeing Walkman or CyberShot branded SE phones from now on (actually, ever since the Yari was introduced)

Does anyone know why SE has stopped manufacturing this model? I was quite interested in this phone but now having 2nd thoughts since they've stopped manufacturing this model. Please reply if anyone knows any info. Thanks.

This ain't a imaging phone - doesn't have the best camera quality yet still good enough for the occasional blog etc etc. The best thing (obviously) is the music quality. Being an audiophile and having owned quite a few mp3 players in the past (my first one being in 02), this phone would trump the lot in regards to sound quality; the Sony Video Walkman S series (NC edition) comes close though...
I have a question though - when playing music with the flip DOWN, I wish to access the track list. The instructions ain't written very well (quite vague...); just wondering how would I access the tracklist on the external screen WITHOUT getting into the WALKMAN menu and into the playlist menu? Because touching DOWN only makes the Walkman picture 'jump' in a pretty manner and nothing else... I know that with the phone flipped OPEN and while in Walkman, pressing down brings up a list of songs in that playlist; how would I get that on the EXTERNAL screen without having to navigate all the way back to the playlist?
Apart from that, and a few minor bugs, this is a decent phone. Quite happy I bought it actually, apart from the fact that it is a fingerprint nightmare...

1-i have same problem like naeem farooqi have....ijust want to know that how will i increase the space for sms..i have 90 sms and the inbox is near to become full..plz tell me that whether the full file of inbox can move or share it to other place or what...
2-how i get picture in dark or at night that picture become bright and clear...coz there is no flash light in this mobile..
