Anonymous, 06 Sep 2011I do not understand what SE spec. mean when they mention LED backlid LCD?
People are telli... more LCD uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) to light up the screen. whereas Xperia uses LED (light-emitting diode) to light the screen ( if you observe the turned off phone screen in sunlight u'll see the LED lights)
So its like an advance LCD Tv Which has just entered the market.
I bought this for 27 thousands in Bangkok just before 2 months. Now I'm buying one for my friend for just 17 thousand...!!!! 10k price slash in two months? It is sad I should have waited.......
BTW, why there is this much price slash? Does that mean it is a flop?
i have my xperia arc one of my superb phone with superb screen but i recently switched to xperia ray.
over all performance of xperia arc is superb no hang ups, no lagging.. but all i want is battery durability that can lasts for 2 or more days.. any idea where i can buy 1750mah above battery for my xperia arc?
1. Advantages of Snapdragon SoC (Scorpion Processor and Adreno GPU):
Xperia Arc has a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor and an Adreno 205 GPU, however this doesn't put it behind the other SoC's out there (explained below)
Many people believe Adreno to be weaker than NVIDIA Tegra2 or PowerVR, but that isn't the case!
The truth is that the latter two seem good on paper and benchmarks, but their practical performance isn't up to the mark.
i. Adreno GPU is efficient and powerful:
Game developers find Adreno a better GPU when it comes to complex game effects. It handles them in a faster, better and power efficient way.
ii. Adreno is friendly to the battery:
Consider NVIDIA's Tegra2 GPU, which requires a heavy dependance on the CPU for it's optimal performance, and that reduces it's battery efficiency.
Follow the link in Techdread's thread to find a thorough comparison from Game developers' point of view.
iii. Snapdragon SoC has hidden tricks up it's sleeve
Adreno GPU and Scorpion CPU has some really cool optimizations up it's sleeve, which makes it better in most tasks than the other options.
e.g. Adreno has support for Hardware acceleration in Flash content. In a video test result, Snapdragon on Xperia Arc played a 720p Youtube video perfectly, whereas other major dual-core devices lagged!
Paul Jacobs, Qualcomm's boss says that Single core snapdragon with latest drivers outperform the current dual core processors.
"Looking at benchmarking tests for our single core product, it outperforms against dual core products from our competitors,’ said Jacbos.
He added: ‘The performance that you can get is literally much more than just counting the number of cores on a chip - it about how these cores work together seamlessly and efficiently. Compared to our competitors' [dual-core chips] they use 50 to 75 per cent more power to deliver the same perfomace compared to our single-core CPUs.’
iv. Snapdragon has DEVELOPER SUPPORT
Snapdragon is widely being supported by developers and alot of games for it are being made.
What hardware advantage does any SoC give the device if it has little developer support??
How many times have you seen these words on game threads: Make this for SGS2 please!!
v. Xperia series has the latest drivers for Snapdragon and Adreno, getting the most out of them.

hussain110, 06 Sep 2011wht should i buy ? N8 or Arc ? i m confused !!! i just sold my e52 a week ago !! can anyone he... moreSimple, you should buy the Arc.
It might look inferior in paper as the N8 as a bigger camera but the arc outperforms it every aspect.
It is simpler to use and to live with in day to day life, great sound and signal strength, no crashes or reboots, it looks awesome and it is very handy and small to carry. Great in pockets.
For my personal experience Sony always outbeats nokia in reliability and durability so, go for it.

:-( Yeah. mine got the infamous crack too. Tx God, I have managed to sell it and the buyer did not notice it :-) I am done with SE. I will only buy from a big company from now on. Samsung Galaxy Note looks interesting.
Arc phones have housing crack near the proximity sensor. I have an arc too. I noticed a black line earlier but thought it as dust or something. After seeing the SE forum post, i noticed it deeply with a torch and found a crack! If there is no crack, don't b happy coz there will b a crack soon. Cheap plastic won't last long... :(
Got this phone mainly because of its accessories. Got screen protector, leather case, car charger, micro HDMI cable (mine's the middle east version)
The phone's video playback is amazing!
when is Sony rolling out the 4.0.A.2.368 firmware for Xperia Arc in India, its out in Europe.
I have this beauty for more than 2 months, and I use it like a lot, supper heavy use like 8 hours a day and i use no cover for the body, no color fading at all, still looks like it's first day, runs smooth and kicks hard... the only down side is the few amount of RAM & ROM, even though its great, I strongly recommend it :-)
