Mel, 20 Sep 2012What crack are you talking about?Seems the admins decided not to post my previous message...
I'm talking about the ones that appear near and above the proximity sensor (the black oval at the top).
- There are some people who report it appearing a few weeks into usage (sometimes some days from purchasing new).
- And from those who take it in for repair (a new outer housing that's supposedly reinforced, repaired under warranty), the crack returns. There are some report of some people in the UK getting the 'reinforced' housing replaced three times to no avail.
- There are some lucky ones, where the crack doesn't appear at all
Yeah... I'm holding out till just before my warranty expires then will get it replaced. If anything, I treat my electronics like gods. Cases, screen protectors, never dropped etc etc...

kingado, 21 Sep 2012but you didn't say to upgrade or not and sorry for my fault . did you tried to upgrade ??I'm holding out until Sony announce their decision in regards to Jelly Bean on 2011 phones. If they say yes, then I'll wait till JB shows up (and the subsequent reviews to make sure the new OS works properly on the Arc S). If Sony decide against JB on this phone, then I'll continue using GB until sometime next year.
The reason why I don't want to upgrade to ICS? There are a few biggish bugs on ICS. The LED notification light for example, and reports of wifi not going too well when the battery goes below 50%. Among various other reports.
That plus, JB implements Project Butter, so should be a smoother experience over ICS overall.

kingado, 21 Sep 2012pls all answer me pc companion shows me that I have a software update to 4.1 (jelly bean ) any... moreThat's not Jelly Bean. It's simply the build number that coincidentally happens to starts with 4.1 (the full build no. being 4.1.B.0.587). The update there is for the 2011 Xperia devices, installing ICS in the process.
IF (when) Jelly Bean does come out I'd expect the build number to start with 4.2.....
pls all answer me pc companion shows me that I have a software update to 4.1 (jelly bean ) any one recommend this update I am hesitated pls reply thanks in advance

hey frndz i have found that Ice-cream sandwitch 4.0.4 is quite unstable in Xperia arc S this device works efficientely on Gingerbread 2.3...
Mel, 20 Sep 2012What crack are you talking about?Try Google; you'll find plenty of people suffering from the issue, and pictures to boot. It's a well-documented issue around the world. Problem also includes the Arc and Xperia Arco (NTT Docomo's version of the Arc).
It shows up a few weeks after purchase from new. In my case, it took a week to show up (albeit near invisible). It's 8 weeks old now and it's definitely there, just isn't a 'open' crack yet.
Sony apparently is giving free fixes in most countries under warranty but the results of the fixes vary. Most people say the issue returns even with replacement housings, despite Sony saying (in most countries at least) they are using different material to construct the replacement housing. And there are a few people who report that the cracks don't return after the replacement. Then there are the lucky few who apparently don't get the cracks in the first place.
