to improve battery life, go to market and install JUICEDEFENDER. Set it to enable, at voilaaaaaa! Battery improved!
Bought this phone last week,it's really good and awesome. Music, camera, games and web browsing are top notch, alsp the display. The only cons are the battery life, the wiered light proximity sensor... All in all it's worth buying! :)
They said that It was a touch pad driver problem nothing wrong with the hardware and they changed the touch pad driver along with the OS its still the same ginger bread 2.3.3 but touch pad driver is different. I suggest not to change OS until they release 2.3.4 or 3.0.
for all the users experience endless vibrating and soft pad malfunctioning
well.. i got my phone last night
in 30 minutes of playing angry birds no heating problem

AnonD-8312, 22 Oct 2011You are only having problems because you are not used to the android UI.
I have been using ... moreIn my opinion there is some problem in most of xperia mini phones.
I bought mine on 27th Sep.
On 1st Oct it started showing onscreen keyboard at time of an incoming call & vibrate endlessly.
The onscreen keyboard cannot be removed by any of the keys or touchscreen.
After the end of the call no buttons or touchscreen worked.
Phone can be used only after removing the battery & starting again.
Took it to SE Service Center, they updated the software but no use.
At last on 22nd Oct evening, I got my new Xperia Mini after replacement. Thank God.
But on 23rd Oct Afternoon, this new phone is also having some problems.
While Browsing web for about half an hour, the Capacitive Buttons & Touchscreen stops responding.
Now what.
Will they give me another phone to try?
There is nothing to do with knowledge of Android etc as I have used an Android phone for about 1 year.
Forget the battery performance & Flickering etc, a phone should be able to do its basic functions properly, which this phone cannot do as I have Tested 2 Xperia Mini phones.
I will suggest everybody, forget the features like 1ghz, 720p. Please don't buy this phone.

so about this phone: i bought it a m... moreYou are only having problems because you are not used to the android UI.
I have been using this phone for over a month: no heating problem, no capacitive button problem: only after about an hour of gaming did it heat up once, and the capacitive buttons on the front got hotter than the back cover, but there was no problem: they were functioning properly.
Flickering screen is barely noticible at the correct brightness. Also, and I'm probably clearing this up for everyone the 10th time: the screen flickering is not a screen problem. It is not even a hardware problem, and its not exactly a flicker either. The ambient light sensor on the phone (which is used to control the screen's backlight depending on the lighting conditions around you) is activated by default, and when it gets blocked by your finger or something, then the brightness automatically decreases, thus giving a flickering effect. This can be easily corrected if SE gives an option to switch off automatic brightness adjustment.
As for the other problems pointed out by zahroudi:
1)The battery is actually pretty good. I managed to pull 3.5 days: the total usage was about 15 mins of calls, 10 mins of gaming, 10 mins of internet, and a live wallpaper (Nexus) on throughout. So with heavy use, you can easily pull off about a day on a single charge. Also, restart your phone about 1-2 times a day. That way, all your applications get killed, and it works wonders for the battery.
2) I have no idea how that happened.
3) I have never faced such a problem. It lets me do anything I want, but first gives a warning that I have about 10% battery left or whatever.
4)Contacts are searchable, and easily scrollable (as soon as you start scrolling the contact list, a little scroll bar appears on the right. On using this scroll bar, you can jump directly to the letter you want to go to).
5)The messaging app in this phone is horrible. I suggest you use GoSMS. Although I have sent messages to new numbers using the standard messaging app.
This phone is the best phone in this price range: no lag, no hint of slowing down, and a beautiful screen, whose blacks almost match those of AMOLED screens, and colours are beautiful, and not oversaturated like those on AMOLED.
the screen flickering .. coz of ambient light sensor..
