Likvit, 28 Aug 2011Looks like xperia mini pro and xperia mini aren't identical hardware. xperia mini has 1ghz QSD... moreThere's no difference between QSD8255 and MSM8255. Yes, Qualcomm announced this chipset as MSM8255, however other companies who use it on their devices sometimes dubbed it QSD8255 as this chipset is come from Qualcomm SnapDragon family System on Chips (SoC). The most important to know to identify the chipet is the number: 8x55 is the 2nd generation Qualcomm Snapdragon family chipsets with 1 GHz cpu integrated with Adreno 205 GPU. All of them (8x55).
Likvit, 28 Aug 2011Looks like xperia mini pro and xperia mini aren't identical hardware. xperia mini has 1ghz QSD... moreI couldn't find any evidence, that the two processors (chipsets) are different... QSD was an earlier name-type of MSM by Qualcomm, look at the predecessor: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=c...agon_qsd8255 - the number is the same here! I searched for this, when I tried to decide which one of the two... first i thought, they're different, later i've found out that there was this name change, and maybe the specs that have spread were given like this, and it remained.
What is different, is their internal structure: the placement of the jack, USB, and consequently their position related to the microphones.
They have the same EP500 battery.
Bought 3 days ago...what can i say bout this phone, small but powerful...i cant forget bout sgs2 for a while in terms of prices tag

So xperia mini pro has newer generation snapdragon prosessor and should drain less battery but is more powerful at the same time. Just checked both phones specs here at gsmarena.
I don't kno if this has anything to do with noise problem, because xperia mini don't have this. Do you know if these phones use same model of battery?

PRIDE, 28 Aug 2011Given up in the way that I just cannot risk waiting for a solution that may/may not happen. I ... moreI totally understood you (I also think on the same step) and meant this way the giving-up -> that's why I dared to ask you to help a little further! :)
On another forum I speculated on this, so it's not obvious - it'd be too nice from SE:):
"there could still be at least two different explanation for this:
1. either SE initiated the process, starting to gradually replace faulty phones, or
2. the dealer, facing considerable amount of replacements.
I'd bet for the second option at the moment, which is also a good turn of events, if many like this happens there'll be sure a solution, though the first would be the best." However tech support's reaction raises some doubt on the 2nd option...
That's why we need a clear, honest answer! The dealer has got lower interests in sweeping truth under the carpet, that's why your news are very important! :)
GGG, 28 Aug 2011Partly answering my idea: Maybe there is the problem, but as the microphones are placed better... moreLooks like all xperia mini pros are individuals... Like mine's xloud is working like it should and calling quality is noise free. Only taking videos there is just a little noise.
Then that my first phone had very loud noise on videos and when calling that same noise was almost as bad there, well it was there all the time screen was on...
I think a company like SE should have same quality in all phones, this type of problems have occured on some cheap chinese phones, but not on premium manufacturers like SE.
GGG, 28 Aug 2011Oh, then you gave up...
I've to admit that you could help the community with the info concern... moreGiven up in the way that I just cannot risk waiting for a solution that may/may not happen. I have just contacted tech support at phones4u and explained to them what the sales person told me in the shop.
Tech support, needless to say, had no clue as to what I just told him. He also said he was not aware of any issues regarding the mini pro's.
It's obvious that S.E. have wind of the issue otherwise why would the sales person at phones4u tell me they have been sent back ???
I'm far from giving up on the rest of the mini pro owners and will email phones4u as to why I wa told about the quarranteen.
Will post back...
Likvit, 28 Aug 2011You have a point there. We can all hope that some kind of firmware update would take this prob... morePartly answering my idea: Maybe there is the problem, but as the microphones are placed better, it isn't recorded in video, so noone cares, as it could be detected, if you glued the phone to your ear :)
Unfortunately, there's a little chance that this isn't a hardware problem...
battery? USB-microphone interference? all seems hardware issue... but I hope you're right.
The xLoud thing is more likely software-related.
GGG, 28 Aug 2011Interest and logical finding... a thought: then why isn't any problem reported from the stan... moreYou have a point there. We can all hope that some kind of firmware update would take this problem away from all users. For sony it would be very very big mistake if this is caused some hardware issue. I just can't understand that this kind of problem is out there, this phone was announced early this year and they really had time to test this model.

a thought: then why isn't any problem reported from the standard Minis? They have the same battery (and there are other devices with this type of battery, as I can recall)
Aria kh, 28 Aug 2011Thank you for the info Likvit.
This is confusing ! so it seems like the noise is not the sam... moreWhen I waited my replacement phone it was very clear that this problem was a big problem. After watching many youtube test videos I noticed that almost every video there had that noise and that noise had very differend volume levels on every video. My phone pretty much had the loudest level on that noise. So I really feared that my replacement would have that noise, but propably not as loud as the first. So now I'm very happy that when I put my ear next to the screen, there's no noise audible.
However taking video there really is little noise on background and I still think it is the battery what is making that noise, because phone is draining more power on that state. Same thing still occurs if I do neocore benchmark and while making that benchmark I can hear the buzz noise when I put ear next to the BACK COVER. While chargin phone there is absolutely no noise when making that same benchmark so I am pretty sure that's battery what's making that buzz.
PRIDE, 28 Aug 2011Ok, so the bottom line is this, phones4u Exeter still had stock. I had another replacement whi... moreOh, then you gave up...
I've to admit that you could help the community with the info concerning the quarantine! Why did they reduced their Mini Pro stock? Can't you ask them, we would really appreciate! I'm not in the UK, because I'd have done this by myself. Based on this info I've started that thread...
Another thing is that the consequenses of this closeness can not be repaired e.g. with inserting an extra insulation??
Thanks for your efforts, anyway... I hope you'll be satisfied with the Mini.
