I must just say that this phone IS A MUST for any network admin.
I have successfully setup an ad-hoc wireless network to my laptop and bridged the lan to it so I can VNC any of the 15+ computers on my network at the tap of the screen. Added bonus is the internet connection is also bridged :p
This phone is a pleb killer, get it if you know computers. Otherwise if you struggle with advanced computing then you are going to be baffled by windows Mobile.
coolinbysound, 26 Jan 2009it canīt be such a good display with only 65k colors... i even dare to say that it sucksI'm here to share my experience about this phone, help people with some things and ask help if I get stuck trying to do something on my X1. I would normally not confront people regarding how good or bad the X1 is.
But dude, your post says it all... "it can't be such a good display with only 65k colors" You really haven't used the phone for 5 minutes, let alone own it. Isn't that true?
It's good to see people take time to read this forum and post some of their own thoughts. But it's a sad situation when people post their thoughts with no substantial backing to what they say. I hope the situation changes.
I'm no Sony Ericsson fan. Years ago, I had the Nokia 8310, then I bought the cool looking SE T610 within a few weeks of it's launch. And thought it was quite a let down 'coz it was just so slow. I thought I'll never go for another SE phone. The following year, I got a Nokia 6230 which was great. But the very next year, I found SE K800i to be a great phone. And then the SE P1i. And now the X1.
During the time I had the K800i, a friend had a Nokia N73, which had so many problems that he'd had to send it in for repairs to Nokia 4 times in one year. Again, I'm not comparing SE with Nokia (like many ppl here do). I'm just saying that some phones of both the brands are good and successful, and some aren't. I got my wife a Nokia N82 about half a year back, and it's been fine. In fact, if I wasn't too keen on getting a phone with touchscreen, I'd probably get an N82 for myself. (But I got a bit spoilt by my P1i, so had to get another touchscreen phone).
X1 is not the perfect phone. No phone is. Is the X1 value for money? Probably not. But is it a good phone? I'd have to say 'Yes'. Will it suit the needs of everyone out there? Definitely not!

and as usual not efficient :)
drains the battery!
requires fast CPU!
even an average joe realizes that WinMo is just does not cut it anymore.
It is said to see when an average joe thinks he is not :))))
Windows mobile 7 is going to be dumbed down os. Microsoft are after big sales, the only way they can achieve this is by designing an OS which caters for the average punter. Windows 6 is a brilliant system with unrivaled flexibility but it's certainly not suited to your average joe.

indra, 25 Jan 2009hi guys...
i have been using this phone for 2 months, this phone is great and flexible...
... moreHey Indra,
That's pretty cool that you're using TouchFlo3D, iPhone and G1/Android panel - all on your X1.
Could you confirm if you can use TF3D in landscape? And how have these panels affected your X1's stability?
The reason I'm asking is that I tried running TF3D on mine, but it wont look nice in landscape. But more important than that, I found my phone crashing every now and then. Ultimately removed it, and the phone seems to be fast and reliable.
I loved the weather and the stocks tab on TF3D. If only I could get those...

˝Long live Sony Ericsson˝ :)
These people think SE is alive? :)
Actually, if anything it is dyeing!
Just read the announcement of the CEO, and check out the profits, well actually loss! :(
Yeah, you still have high hopes for WinMo 6.5 - donīt you read GSMArena News :)
˝AT&T to ditch WinMo over Symbian, iPhone may stay˝
(AT&T is the largest service provider in the US)
˝Windows Mobile 6.5 leaks and skeptics' predictions come true˝
I guess we need to wait for Win Mo 7 - just hope that will be decent - in 2011?
i have good news for X1 owner..
1. x1 6.1 winmo OS will be updated to 6.5 winmo OS
2. ROM updates for X1 right now..everything on x1 will be faster n smooth than before and Sony ericsson has added many new features on it
3. With Xperia ROM updates surfacing,, I just found out that Sony Ericsson is hosting a Live Webinar on January 29th. Though the description of the webinar only detailed it to showcase the power of Xperia and the Panels interface, i wonder if this webinar will be more than just that? Can we expect news on the update, an in-depth review on the changes, and new panels? What do you think?
4. you can run 3 UI OS at once time on a X1 panel (Iphone UI, Android UI and Touch floo 3D)
Drama, 24 Jan 2009Ray,
I have had a look at the Handango site in regards to the Microsoft Voice Command, but ... moreDrama,
I thought I did see on Handango that MS Voice Command is compatible with X1. Or maybe I saw Microsoft's site that it's compatible with Winmo 5 & 6.
Anyway, I have got it on my phone now. And it sure works fine. I guess there are a few minor things that dont work (or maybe I did not play enough to make it work) - One of them is that caller name should be announced when there's an incoming call.
But other than this, I have found everything else working fine. The most important feature for me is to "lookup" or "call" a contact, which this does fine. I can check whose call I missed, and use the "callback" command. I check what's my next task, or appointments for today/tomorrow. All seem to work well. Sometimes, I check the battery status and signal strength, just to play :-)
There's a video on youtube too showing how MS-VC works on X1. Check it out.
XPERIA X1 remains the best phone available on the market. Screen is as clear as crystal, fast processor, nice design, battery is excellent, internet browsing, etc. Really, since I bought my unit a month ago, I hever experience a single problem. SE gives us a truly fantastic phone in our lives, plus I really love the amazing XPanel not to mention the audio is really nice. So, let us enjoy our EXPERIA X1 and forget those people who lambasted XPERIA because in reality, they don't own a unit at all. Long live Sony Ericsson.
..and Blackberry is still the best business smart phone in the market, period.
