can one dial a number in this phone or write a text without sliding the keyboard out to use it? and using fingers, not the stylus?? thanks!

I completely agree with you that no other HTC phone is better than this phone.
It's more than an year old now, but still no phone comes near it.
It seems with an excellent keyboard and a trackpad it has neutralized the phone/UI handling issue associated with WinMo.
SE with the help of HTC have surely hit a near perfect benchmark in WinMo Pocket PCs.

After many reviews... I started with about 10 phones in 4 different brands, and in about a week later, went down to 3 finalist. It came down to price, brand vs. features, HTC and Sony Ericsson, 2 phones from HTC and 1 from Sony. And the winner is ......XPERIA X1. The construction, features and price, you can't beat the XPERIA X1. Right out of the box, heavier than most phones, but it has brushed aluminum casing compared to plastic on other phones. First time user of this type of software phone, it took me 2 days to learn the basics, I'm loving it, it's feature rich. Excellent looking display, you have to sit down, take your time and read the instructions well before using it, it doesn't take long. If you don't have any basic computers skills....forget it, don't buy it, you will not take advantage of the features. Clarity on in-coming calls is excellent. Fast enough for me on applications. Keyboard is excellent for typing text unlike some other reviews. Buy it...

I suggest Sony Ericsson to do the tests in its lab first. I was a fan of SE but after buying my X1, i'm sure that i will never ever think about SE anymore.
Whether it is manufactured by HTC or not...it is SE's logo that is hateful now.
