this phone is cool, as only Samsung and SE has the up-to-date phones with T-S display. UI is excellent and the camera is average and well enough for taking everyday outdoor shots. if you want some dark scene shots, then buy MXE-60 flash.

IT is a funny the way that sony put the pen.
They should have one which could be pulled out from the phone.

I owned this z558i for a week. It is a beautiful, compact phone BUT its buttons are too small and too flush to the surface and hence hard to press. Would be good for ladies with small fingers. Also there is no remainder feature tie to its calendar like Nokia phones do.

this phone is same as z550 but with minor cheange it has a touch screen just tell me how convinient it would be to wright or draw on a 1.9 inch screen it means nothing as clampshell it would be difficult to catch and write or draw and with the screen 1.9 inch and this phone has same 1 megapixle camera which is not good enough i hope this phone does not come with software problem

Hey check out the comment on MiS-eS-d :)
nice going, although the ending was a bit more like science-fiction to me, I mean you cannot imagine the amount of complications and complaints something like that would bring (order-your-own-mobile stuff).
Anyway I was going to say I have been noticing a major change in SE policy lately. They started out just wonderfully but now what I see on the market makes me think of nokia, the same "let's do a dozen models from the same sketch draw but let's name'em totally random".
I've happily owned more than 10 SE mobiles by now and I was quite proud with each one of them. But now when I think of getting a new model I face the lamest of all dilemmas: I need this and that and oh yea that thing in that model, but none of the available phones have them all built-in.
Couple (actually 4 or 5) years ago that was not a question, there was just one T68i that had'em all, then there was one P800 that had the impossible on it, and maybe a couple of models followed the same idea. But now what do I see, four phones that look exactly the same, own the same technology plus or minus a byte and wear labels like coin flipped, not to mention the price labels, oboy. I understand the company growing but this is just to damn lame, this brings back sad memories (nokia-like).

Whatever, I feel kinda confused, it's been 6 months now and I still can't decide which of the crippled new models to choose from ?

The touchscreen is meant for the asian market, which has been said below, to be much easier to input.
That's why this phone won't be available for the rest of the world.

Really like the touchscreen thing... for such a small screen like this they've been able o put touchscreen,.. why need for a large display... only PDA smartphones utilizes large display and this is a non-OS phone... the Z558 touchscreen is used mainly for easy chinese language typing... if those people who criticize this unit may be the fans/people who wants SE to produce a complete phone like N95... anyway Still P990 can still compete eith N95 with it's features,... only N95's advantage i can see is the presence of GPS,..

The stylus thing...

it doesn't really make all that much sense to me. A 1.9" screen on a flip phone doesn't need a stylus...it's rather impractical.
If it was a flat, candy-bar style phone that may change things...

It's really just another gimmick so they don't seem to repeat themselves with their models.

And if you're that lazy to scroll through the menu you need to touch the screen...well then a stylus won't do you that much good either.

well, umm, it doesn't really matter, if you look from all sides it's like this

people that look at SE most likely like Sony. now Sony has a lot of items out there like digital cameras that are really cute. so why on earth would they put good functionality in their phones when they want you to buy that sleek and sexy camera that they made just to fit into (sorry guys) your nice purse that matches so well with your outfit and sits right beside your SE cell phone

2nd, no phone out there is perfect. the N95 is no exception. wake up, it's a device that you use to contact someone. it's a device that you use so that when someone needs you they can find you. whether it's by text of by call or by e-mail, or whatever new way that people have of finding you(i know of 3 others, but they're service provided) it's still used for communication.

so now, we can use one phone as a day timer, an alarm clock, a computer, you name it, the thing does just about everything but wash my dishes and make grilled cheese sandwhiches? how much of that stuff are you actually going to use? how fast is it going to be off the market? how easily will the phones program be corrupt(i don't want to talk about it, it brings back bad memories)

the point is that it's a phone and everyone has their tastes, so people who like nokia, stop complaining that they're the best, because they may be the best for you, but it's not always true for the next person. there are people that believe that less is more, and actually live with that rule. i know seems surprising, but some people either don't want to be so technically advanced or just don't want to have it all in one package. don't call them strange for doing so.

i can personally say i'm a fan of SE, just because it's a phone that has lasted me the longest and it was functional for what i needed it for.

but to the same regard, i can also say, i've been through all the other phone companies aswell. some break some have program problems, some are bulky, some are just plain old ugly, and each had their own perks aswell. motorola(to the best of my knowledge) is kind of in between most companies, they're trying to reach nokia status of creating lots of phones at the same time, they just know that they need a merket for it first. nokia, dear lord, their phones are really cool, but not straight forward at all, mind you, i was switching phones companies, so that could have been it too. i like it though, nokia works well for what i need it for, but i don't use the million features that it has. i use what i need and nothing more. but i drop it often...

i like SE the most because i drop it often, i mean i dropped my phone on a train track, when i was catching the subway. my phone sat there for 24 hours, didn't crack, didn't break, there was no problem with my phone list, and there was no problem with my phone physically other than the battery fell out. SE phones also have some feeling of "lifelikeness" that i like and i like that they click when you open them(i'm a flip phone girl) but those are tiny quirks that i'm sure you'd find in any phone. they are also built to do exactly what cell phones are made for, connection with people. they add a few functions to compete, but ultimately make it so that anyone can use it, which is pretty smart since i know a lot of older people who refuse to use anything but motorola and SE just because they're more user friendly. and since i'm not paying for any extra features that i'm not going to use, it happens to be cost effective and not $1000. i am a bit dissappointed in them for putting a stylus in this package though. you're calling people, not drawing pretty pictured on your phone and texting them(picture texting them) pretty pictures of a dog that you really can't draw in the first place.

i do have some advice for those people who "desire" the perfect phone. try 1 of 2 things

write in to your company of choice that you want a very specific phone tell them that you think it would be a great idea if they made personalized phones from program to physical design they would make greater profit(the other motive behind nokia i believe is to give people the chance to be individual) so that you got exactly what you wanted and nothing more. then you would have your perfect phone and could stop complaining about every other phone out there.

the other is to make the perfect cell phone yourself. see how hard it is, then stop complaining about everything out there.(my stylus comment included)
