AnonD-65248, 14 Sep 2012hey all,
a quick question, if any one tried the new update 6.1.A.2.45 for Xperia S at Egyp... moreFriendly advice: stay sound with GB 2.3.7
I have it since mid April. I had 2 updates to ICS 4.0.4:
After the first (don't remember build number) the phone turned to a "brick" - lagging, hanging, restarting, and forcing resets). Camera button did not work from "sleep" anymore...
Second update (Build number 6.1.A.2.45) has brought it back to life, but it still isn't as smooth as it used to be. It still hangs once in a while but works more or less fine. On a good day - no lagging. Free memory after reboot is between 75 and 100 MB - far too low for smooth and reliable operation!
Stay with 2.3.7 and you'll have one of the best phones around. "Upgrade" and you risk serious downgrade. I wish I hadn't done it. Up to you.
PS. Battery life is fine - but I can't confirm that it is better or worse than it used to be - feels more or less the same to me. ICS has rearranged "Yes" and "No" options and other menus and commands. They might be better than GB, but they are different. If you were used to the old layout the new might bother you for a long while.
PPS. Oddity - the phone has the "light sensor", but it is not (and cannot be) used for automatic screen adjustment - not in GB nor ICS!
PPPS. I was very happy for some 2-3 months while it was on GB, but now I kinda regretted the purchase, all the magic has gone now. I also have Sony Tablet S, and it has 3x more free memory upon restart (it is on ICS 4.0.3 now).

I was literally laughing while reading your story that how 2 Xperia s ( 1 would have been imaginable.. But 2 omg) were criticized abd bashed. U ARE A typical fanboy.

hey all,
a quick question, if any one tried the new update 6.1.A.2.45 for Xperia S at Egypt please advice
what about the battery life, free RAM, any bugs ?!!
i just got the phone 2 days ago and it works fine with GB 2.3
i don't want to face any bugs with the new update, if it will; i will better leave it on G.B.
P.S. i always have free RAM between 300 and 403

Sony Xperia S. More advantages vs Samsung. All Samsung. It is incredible. Samsung=best marketing end more problems.

AnonD-45700, 13 Sep 2012The "worst" mobile(for it's cost) I ever seen. My previous mobile was Galaxy-S2 and ... moreyou simply lie! go and see all review about xperia s camera and all other things you just told us about! you are simply a samsung fan!
The "worst" mobile(for it's cost) I ever seen. My previous mobile was Galaxy-S2 and I chosen Xperia-S only because of the exaggerated specifications of this phone in it's official and other websites, including gsm arena. My other model Sony Ericsson phones are far far better when compared with this. I purchased 2nos of (one white and one black)Xperia-S from one of the authorized retail outlet from India with the IMEI number written purchase bill and valid warranty cards Both phones are VERY bad in performance and both of them are having complaints also even them are fresh. First, I will tell regarding their complaints
1. both hand sets will get hanged up on using.
2. locating GPS is very difficult in both pieces even in open out doors.
3. audio output through headphone in one phone is not audible and produces very bad sound like cheap pocket radios.
4. the 'camera' key is not functioning in one set.
5. while connecting the pen drive (only 4gb)using USB OTG cable, one phone displays "warning...takes more power" and gets switched off immediately.
I contacted Sony for replacing these phones immediately. They admitted the complaints and the service centre person told that 'replacement' is not possible and and they will try to repair it and I want to handover my handsets to them for minimum 5-7 days. So I decided to sell my both handsets via exchange and I again purchased one Samsung-S2 and one Nokia C5-5mp.I am not disclosing their IMEI numbers not to disturb the second user/s.I am using Sony LED TV, home theater, Vaio lap top etc. I am fully satisfied with these Sony products and even my other Sony Ericsson mobiles are also good. The main disadvantages of the Xperia-S(priced Indian Rs 28900.00 in 27th Aug 2012)when compared with Galaxy-S2(priced Rs 26500.00only 0n 30th Aug 2012)
1. the screen brightness and colour depth is very low in Xperia-S
2. the 12MP(?) camera takes very dull and noisy picture. The Nokia C5-5mp takes better picture even without auto focus. But I strongly admit that my Xperia Neo's camera is very good.
2. the flash light produces very dull light.
3. the wide angle visibility of the screen is very bad.
4. no memory card slot.
5. processing speed is better in Galaxy-S2
6. GPS speed is amazing in Galaxy S2
7. battery backup is better in S2
8. S2 is thinner than Xperia-S
9. S2 is having better blutooth speed.
The only 'advantage' of the Xperia-S over S2 is the easiness of of uninstalling of applications and customization of applications. I will never recommend this to any other.
