I've just had the phone for a few days and here are my first, hands-on impressions.
First of all I just switched from Iphone 6s and the first thing that you notice is the screen quality. Xperia delivers much nicer colors and sharpness, having more ppi but also a far superior screen.
The built quality is fantastic, feels premium, and offers a very comfortable grip, the sides and brushed metal back not being slippery. The back is a very nice brushed/matte aluminium.
I love the form factor, 5" and the thickness of the phone. The screen is large enough but still confortable to hold in one hand.
The user interface feels snappier and sharper to respond as well as the touch screen compared to Iphone 6s. Also, touch seems to be more accurate here.
The phone has Snapdragon 650 yes, not a flagship but, Sony knows very well what they are doing here. I had no moment at all when the phone stuttered or hanged or been slow because of the CPU or any of the hardware choice( RAM, flash memory, etc).
I have to take more photos to commment on the camera quality but I'll only mention one thing, the camera in Iphone 6s and Galaxy s7 are both Sony cameras. Do you think Sony would install a worse quality camera in their own phones? Don't think so.
Audio quality. The sound quality coming from speakers has decent quality but is a bit on the quiet side. I use headphones 99% of the time so not really a weak point here...If you want to bother other people with your music I suggest you get a very large Marshall guitar amplifier and plug this in :)) The audio quality when connected to an external amplifier system is fantastic, clear, crisp, flawless.
The battery is very good and have no complaints about it. Lasts me a whole day easily with moderate use. I don't play games but keep the wireless and bluetooth on at the same time and do a lot of web browsing, youtube and watch movies.
NOW very important, GSM arena doesn't review wireless sound performance. I wish so much they would. These days, wireless headphones have become more affordable and a lot of people use it. A lot of "premium" high end headphones these days are wireless. A review of the wireless capabilities of a handset therefore would be very helpful.
Sony Xperia X is a blast! on wireless audio. Sony is using it's proprietary tech LDAP bluetooth tech and when connected to sony equipment(home theatre, speakers) or headphones the sound is professional studio quality. What is the difference between this phone and non-Sony other phones on the market? In short: night and day. The phone also supports apt-x for compatible wireless headphones. No mention of all this in a lot of reviews, not just GSM arena. I understand that a lot of people use wired headphones but please, could you include a test for wireless audio quality in future reviews?
That would be amazing. Anyways you guys are doing a fantastic job, and are my benchmark for phone reviews.
How is really Iphones 6s sound quality even on wired compare to this phone? Worlds apart. If you are like me and care a lot about music, get either this or an older sony xperia for great wireless sound quality. For wired, there would be others out there but still, Xperia X is a very good performer.
Overall I am very impressed with the handset, would not upgrade for a very long time.
Sound not bad at all, it depends a lot on what headphones you are using
AnonD-211461, 18 Jun 2016Can anyone suggest me should I buy X or Z5 Compact, and why? Balaganesh, 17 Jun 2016In future Sony mobiles definitely will crash iPhone sales...It will be very good.
How is the loudspeaker quality of this phone? Is it audible in noisier environment?? Specially the ring volume quality...
Hahahahaha! Another one....What a joke, and to think I was an Xperia fan once, what happened to you SONY???!!!I guess they have decided to shut shop altogether. Downgraded your IP certification, underspecced your phone, underpowered it with a measly battery..and even downgraded your moniker from Z to X, didn't even bother to make some design changes,BUT......... Price? No no no no.... price will stay premium!!???? I hope they fire SONY's head of development after this phone bombs. Disappointed and sad remembering yesteryears SonyEricsson Feel bad to see so many SONY fans still supporting, but people at SONY have lost it....:-(
lol, 08 Jun 2016MidRange phone With high end pricing range no wonder sony losing its market in asia..The pricing is cheaper than flagships. I'm fact you can pick it up in the UK for £432 and that was at launch. The S7 launched at £599...that's a massive difference. On contracts it is also cheaper across most networks.
AnonD-292864, 16 Jun 2016Sony's pricing isn't right. Where i live Xperia X is priced same as S7. Who would buy Xperia X... moreIn the UK the handset is priced as low as £432.... A world away from the like of Apple and Samsung. This is. Cracking upper mod range handset and should totally be given more recognition as such.
Let me put it in simple words:
My son, a amateur wildlife photographer has a IPhone6, I have a Xperia Z3.
He borrows my mobile to take pictures.
In future Sony mobiles definitely will crash iPhone sales...
Tann Hauser, 16 Jun 2016It is overpriced. But considering Apple, Samsung and Htc....it is actually not Problem is... moreSony marketing isn't good. But Sony phones are superb. Expensive? Not at all. Many people pay huge money for iPhone. But iPhone isn't powerful. Battery life is bad. iOS is like jail that can only change wallpaper. There is no other customisation. Samsung isn't good too. My uncle bought S7 Edge. Touchwiz improved but lag is always there. But my Sony Xperia Z3 never lag. Because of perfect software optimisation. So my friend it is better to wait few months and buy Sony. Go for Sony. It is available.

AnonD-481725, 15 Jun 2016Indeed, even iphone 6 is not comparable to xperia x and look to its price ~ 600$ right now: 1g... moreIt is overpriced.
But considering Apple, Samsung and Htc....it is actually not
Problem is, Sony puts out much too late
Look at X Performance....5 months since announced its finally out.
That is just tooo much.
If X was put out at same time as S7, for ex, it wouldnt be overpriced, as it would be viewed as a more than superb phone surpassing even that S7 in most things...and for 100€ less....
Sony marketing is the guilty one here
Sony's pricing isn't right. Where i live Xperia X is priced same as S7. Who would buy Xperia X when there is S7 that it superior at everything at the same price ? Price needs to be 25% lower if Sony wants to sell this device.
dd, 11 Jun 2016Lol 2700 mAh battery of xperia X gives more battery back up than Samsung S7. It is true fact. ... moreThat is what im trying to say on papers this is midrangers specs in real use its a total beast
Phinch88, 14 Jun 2016it may have a mid range chipset, but why on videos does it out perform the s7 when playing gam... moreThats true this phone is optimized well i saw the reviews it out performed sd 820 phones...
In gaming it destroyed s7
Phinch88, 14 Jun 2016it may have a mid range chipset, but why on videos does it out perform the s7 when playing gam... moreSony Xperia = perfect optimisation.
