- It's called comon sense.
X series is NOT replacing flagship series, that is your unwarranted conclusion.
all to this date Sonys mobile buissness behavoiur. and logic, is indicating X is midrange series of Sony
-Keep saying to yourself that x is midrange. But when this midrange phone is launched, it will have a flagship pricetag.
They always put out midrangers at beggining of the year, and flagships by the end of the year.
- Oh really, I didnt know that. I'm guessing that xperia z, Z2, Z3+ were released at the end of 2013,2014,2015. Either that or these are just midrange phones according to your logic.
Flagship series would not contain midrange devices, get it?
- Midrange phone should not have a highend SD 820 processor, get it?
I can only see Sony introducing some quite impressive midrange line of devices with X series
-Sonys midrange wont hold a candle to Chinese manufacturers. PERIOD.
You obviously see sth totaly de lusional
- You and your 263 upvoters are the only delusional ones here.
I cant wait to read the comment section for Sonys 2nd quarter financial results. Sony fanboys will be crying saying things like Sony should sell at lowerprice with higherspec. This seems to be the only time when Sony fanboys open their eyes.

1. sony only have Z, M, and C series. no entry level phones. sony only released less than 8 phone a year, and halff of them are ther flagship and cmpact flagship, whilst samsung flagsip are only one tenth from total model.
maybe yes their best sellig phoness is their flagship, it dosnt mean they sell their flagship more than samsung flagship in quantity, ofcouse not. samsng sold its flagship far more thn sony, it just bcz samsung has many midrange, and loe end that also did well like their flagssip. in averages formula it means bigger divisor. this also affects profit per unit, but not very much
What makes their profit per unit higher
Sony phones are the priciest,( this is the biggest factor for higher profit per unit, it , . i dont know about their pricing in europe. in my country sony phones are very xpensive. Z5 to cost $660 whille s6 is only $550..
it just becuse they only sold a few, so they only get profit per unit only a little higher than sammy.
Sony is going to release mid range q1 and flagship q3. That's their strategy.
why sony doesn't manufacture it's own processor ?
Best.
Sony is the
AnonD-434597, 14 Mar 2016WTF.. i am only wrong about 'ASP not profit per unit. But the conclution is still the same. Ok... moreThe maths dont equate only flagships but overall portfolio. Sony is best at selling their flagships, their portfolio not so mass oriented
Samsung is better at selling their mid/lowrange devices. Therein lies the difference, get it?
Saying some S7 is more expensive to produce than z5 premium is just bull
Do not be so dense.

They were in red since Erricsson takeover which cost them 1.5 bill, they made profit every single year, Sony corp decided mobile denounce that red on its own, they made out of red last year, now gaining profit with changed strategy, despite less units sold

I'm talking about it's profit in recent years. They did make some profit in Q3s, but usually lost too much in Q1s and Q2s and end up losing in years. You can check their FY each year, and see how their mobile business was doing. BTW, it is good to see their new strategy worked, I can only hope they keep it up.

Its like sammy flagship to cost $720 While Sonys $710. ofcourse Sammy phone is more expensive. But Sony take profit per unit higher bcz of lower production cost/ specs like QHD/4GB RAM in sammy phone and FHD in sonys.
It says profit per unit is 13% higher than samsung phone. With that 'everest vs nevis' specs, i thought its about 25%. Still sony phone are the most 'expensive'.

Actually it says Sony is selling most flagships in percentage out of its portfolio
And it says it earns most per device produced
Nowhere it says its most xpensive, most expensive are samsung flagships still
But keep it up, intellig is all about practice...
Tann Hauser, 14 Mar 2016Here, boy:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/03/14/sony-xperia-phones-generate-highest-unit-prof... moreThanks, after read that article, i just get my question answered.
-Sony Mobile delivered the highest unit ASPs (average selling prices) in the Android ecosystem during the fourth quarter of 2015.
- Sony is also apparently the only Android OEM that has managed to raise ASPs over the past year.
1. Now, we know that Sony phone are the most expensive in android world.
So, people cant say samsung phone are expensive Bcz they take the profit per unit is only half of sonys.
2. Sony finally makes profit. Whatever the strategy (honestly i dont like it, selling cheap crap with highest price) it works. Congratulation.
3. It looks like they rise the ASP again this year. X series are a downgrade in quality. Bcz of midrange build, plastic n metal back and the price are higher.

-What do you think? It doesn't take a genius to know that the X Series is going to be a major flop. Before you know it they will be back in the red and contemplating on selling off the division once again. 2nd quarter results i predict will be bad. Very bad. Have lost all hope for Sony.
They are selling good, mostly their flagship series which is making profit for them, innovating on all aspects of their phones along the way...
- Yeah, thanks to the Z5 series which i like. Just wait till X series replaces it. They'll be lucky to sell more than 1 XP, as you will probably be the only person to buy one.
So what doesnt look good to you?
- This question has already been answered.
Tann Hauser, 14 Mar 2016What exactly doesnt look good for Sony mobile?
They are selling good, mostly their flagshi... moreWake up fan boy, Sony's mobile department is losing profit every year, that's the fact. Their smartphone market share has also dropped out top 10 for a while. There is also rumor that Sony might exits the smartphone business. I doubt it thought, but that tells how they are struggling in the mobile world.
I'm not saying their phones are bad. I actually quite like Sony's flagship, but they really need a better market strategy.
Tann Hauser, 14 Mar 2016All I see "innovative" of samsungs flagship is the return of features of waterproof and sd car... moreI have miss xperia ear, eye etc. Thats pretty cool. Yes its useful and innovative. I thought its only LG who brought cool stuffs.
Finally i get a good news from sony.
But My opinion about X series remains the same. They should be priced lower than others, bcz of lower specs and midrange build.
an old one i read said x is the new z6. i guess its not, lucky. i have the premium already, i dont feel crazy about it. this x performance is nothing. wats next xperia i need next.
