I have bought this phone in april. So far i'm very happy with it. No problems, no crackings, no water problems. I use magnetic desk charger. Using it a lot for calling, internet and navigation. With gps and map program (Navigator, with downloaded maps) battery lasted about 24 hour without charging (from Wladilawowo, Poland to Pärnu, Estonia, about 1000 km). What more i could want!

Since you also do not live in Kent UK, you are also gonna have problems contacting the people there. You will also be charged more for repairs. This situation would be the same for any company so this situation is your fault.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE !!_EVER_!! experienced in my life.
I bought a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact about six months ago. After about 4 months the phone stopped working. I was getting no charging. Long and behold Sony was charging me for a bad motherboard. I later put together that if you put too much pressure in the back corner of the phone, then it will break off the part that connects the battery to the motherboard. And no, you cannot buy the part.
After sending it to Sony (Kent, UK) location, I received a quote to pay £128.08 ( £90.85 for "electric repair", £24.17 "handling fee", and £13.06 for shipping). I tried asking what the electrical repair was and they said they had to escalate this to a "escalations manager" to provide the information. After five days I got a call saying the phone is not under warranty and that the phone needs to be fixed. I told them I wanted to know what the electrical repair was for as I didn't do anything to break it, so I want to challenge the charges. I also wanted to know why they were charging me nearly double the cost of shipping the unit back to me. I sent the item to them for £7.50 with £500 insurance, and they wanted £13.06 for shipping it back to me.
Long story short, I've called them 3-4 days a week asking for a manager to call me back and the employees who answer the phone just kept telling me that they would email the escalations engineers to call me back. In addition, they would not allow me to talk to the call center duty manager. It's been nearly two months and I have not received a call back from a escalations manager or received any new information otherwise. I keep being told that the escalation managers are not available and that I can either pay the fee or ask for them to return the phone back. Oh, also that it's not under warranty because I broke it.
The day I get this phone back I am selling it, and never buying a Sony product as long as i live. Learn from my mistake and save yourself the hassle.
Sony doesn't even fix their own phones, which is why they will take days if months to even get you information about your repair.

I just purchased my new Z1 as well! (Compact) Not sure if people are on here just trolling!!! Pretty sad as this gives GENUINE users like myself a negative view on the phone! i Have bought dis phone for 2 months... great camera, great battry. but da day before yesterday after waking up frm sleep i was shocked to se my phone's screen was cracked. i used dat phone before sleep, on that time phone was ok. the phone cracked by itself. after that i have gogled n found dat al SONY Z series have self cracked issue all over the world n sony not decided to give replacemnt for screen cracked.
now i have to spend $200 to repiar this shit :@

Good day, very disappointed with Cell C been with them for 10 years. My son got on his upgrade a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, five months ago, two weeks ago his screen went black. the phone comes on but the screen is black, took into Cell C Ladysmith, about 2 week ago, got the mess to collet the phone. Then they tell us it is water damaged/liquid, this is totally unreal and what about them replacing it as it is still under guarantee./warrantee - now why must I still pay for the next 2 years on a phone that I believe has a factory fault and must be replaced.
I've had the phone for several months now, I like it as much now as when I got it. The camera is the best I've had on any phone so far (still not quite as good as my mirrorless camera but you wouldn't expect it to be). It has tap-to-focus and allows you to lock exposure settings (1/2 button press on a camera) before taking the shot. Video is very good. Display is sharp.
I like the size, it's a bit bigger than an iPhone 5, so to me it's a right-size phone, not a small one.
I have all the battery saving options turned on (no GPS, no wi-fi except when I'm downloading an app or something). I spend maybe 2-3 hours a day on it (playing games, checking e-mail, facebook, texts and maybe a couple actual phone calls), and it lasts two days easy. Probably 3 if I wanted to push it.
I did have a problem with the battery draining, the MediaServer would run continuously and not let the phone go idle (although the screen would turn off). Turns out it was with the Hill Climber app. If I turn that off when I'm done (bring up the list of active apps with the bottom-right button that looks like boxes, and swipe it away), then I don't have that problem anymore.

I then added a regular screen protector. The Sony Logo I believe is on the touch-screen glass itself, I don't think you can remove that. I also have a thin case to protect the backside, so no worries for me.
