Alcatel is NOT going... they are here to stay. Sagem is gone because they were bought by SE and they make low end SE models now.

Philips, Sharp, Sagem and other mobile manufacturer are not closing while they don't belong to the top 5. So there's no reason why alcatel should close.
As we all know, most companies today retrench employees for cost cutting purposes. Their jobs will be given to a third party wherein the company can pay less. So your friend might be retrenched for cost cutting reason and not because Alcatel will going to close.

nikki a, I don't think that it will happen because Dr. Liu Fei, CEO of TCL Communication, reports that in 2008 ALCATEL-TCL will launch 24 models including 3G enabled in worldwide market. In fact he said that thins model (ELLE 3) will be available this year. So it has no reason why it should close. sooo does anyone know if alcatel have pulled their phones off the australian market for good or what???
And for the people that have been complaining about the price of this phone!!! how do they know how much it costs if it hasn't even come out yet...the design is gorgeous for such a phone, but really it's a pity when the whole world is moving towards 3g and beyond the technology!
