I have the Windows Mobile 6.5 Version of TG01 for 4 Months and I think it is a GREAT PHONE. The display is huge and very responsive. It is one the fastest Phone whit WM 6.5 on the market today. It works well with Navigation software and surfing on the Internet is a preasure.
I dont like the short battery life - only 1 day and the fakt that it sometimes hangs up when I thy to use Opera or Googlemaps. I think that all modern Smartphones have such issues but only a few have such advantages (1GHz CPU; 4,1" Display, nice desing) so I think TG01 is a really nice phone. And dont forget - It is the first Handy EVER to have 1GHz CPU - so it already has a place in the history books.

> In reply to UNHAPPY @ 2010-07-24 08:26 from 3WkM - click to readI too gained the phone as a replacement. I would rather have been sent a homing pigeon, a pen and paper or a Nokia 3210.
I want to destroy it, so I can send it back.

I was given this phone by orange,as a replacement and I have not had it for more than a day yet!! It is the worst phone I have ever had. It constantly connects up to the internet. The back is difficult to put on. It's too big. It does not have a stylus attached to it. AWFUL phone DO NOT BUY!!!!
I would rather have an old fashioned brick phone!!

> In reply to Major Bloodnock @ 2010-05-17 23:53 from pKYv - click to readToday my fifth phone turned up.
It's not even coming out of the box.
I don't know how to cook ROM's and should not have to anyway.
Battery life is appalling. Its like watching the fuel gauge on a V8 car suck the contents out of a fuel tank at speed.
For me all the listed issues on this thread are real. I have suffered them all.
I want my money back.
Come Monday morning I am cancelling my direct debit and Orange will then have to wake up to the fact I mean what I say.
I am a very unhappy Orange customer.
Anyone got Vodafone's number?

I got this phone a few months ago from orange uk(a very good price)First impression?Very BAD,slow ,not very responsive, average camera, very unreliable motion sensor.crashed a lot.But I unlocked it and changed the rom(cooked one)and it made a huge difference!I'm using it on 3 uk and when using Opera on good signal area it is amazingly fast!!!The motion sensor is responsive now and after installing a little piece of free software I can use Igo8 (which in my opinion is better than tom tom) .Spb shell looks and performs very well and the quality of calls has improved a lot.It looks like the tg01 is a reliable piece of hardware but the ORANGE ROM makes it useless,so if you buy one, better change the rom !

As a pocket computer it lives up to the specs, although it is completely hobbled by the utterly useless Windows Mobile. Even with SPB Mobile Shell running on it, which was the only way I could find to make it remotely user-friendly, the cruddy little interface, designed for styluses, not fingers, is always lurking to get in your way just when it is most inconvenient.
If you have experience of using a multi-touch capacitive screen the TG01 will infuriate you. Granted, the massive real estate and high resolution are fantastic for movies, the internet and email but it is grimly unresponsive; especially so with a screen protector fitted.
Answering calls can be a joke, with the user reduced to frantically swiping at the screen to answer while Windows tries to wake up. When you finally do manage to get it to respond (or, more usually, have to call back) the call quality tends to start off more or less acceptable and then deteriorate rapidly. Calls are frequently dropped and with every one of the four replacement handsets which Orange have foisted upon me, the person at the other end starts complaining within a minute or so that my speech is being cut up so badly they cannot make out what I am saying. I have resorted to using a five-year old Motorola which is clear as a bell, so go figure.
Conclusion: Great as a pocket-sized internet tablet but in twenty-five years of mobile phone use I have never had such a dog, such a lemon, such a massive pile of excrescence as this phone.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS AND *DO NOT* ALLOW ORANGE TO REPLACE ANY PHONE WITH THIS ONE. I have heard from the fellow delivering my many replacement phones that this is what they are attempting to do with all their unused and justifiably unloved TG01's. You have been warned.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE - You have been warned.
I am on my third from Orange and all phones have suffered from static noises every minute or so which makes me inaudible and winds up my customers no end!
Nothing wrong with WM6.5 it is a vast improvement over 6.1 and works well, unfortunately the actual phone doesn't! In addition to the static noises I have just lost all sounds from my phone like one of the other posts mentions. Do yourself a favour and avoid hours on the phone with your operator complaining and battling to get a new replacmeent model that is of similar spec - buy a different phone!

I am on my THIRD body since Feb 2010. All 3 have come up with the same faults.
The phone gets a fault and will no longer make any sounds or vibrate even though these features are enabled. Result - missed calls and out of date texts. The only way to resolve the issue is to fully re-boot the phone, battery off is best.
The other really irritating thing is the time it takes to answer the phone - 8-10 seconds before it sorts itself out enough for the screen swipe function to work - result more missed calls.
Orange (my provider) will only replace the phone like for like untill I have logged the same fault at least three times !!!!!!!!!
Am waiting for my fourth handset as I write.
Advice - DON'T GET A TG01

> In reply to Major Bloodnock @ 2010-05-17 23:53 from pKYv - click to readyou can not compare this phone with HD2 because they are different generations of smartphones
the tg01 is more than OK - windows ROM is a terrible choice for it, some guys are cooking custom roms just to get rid off the wm 6.5 and i'm using 6.5.5 for 2 weeks now with no problems
- voice clarity much better
- gps - flawless
- internet over wifi or mobile excellent
- battery life improved 24 hours flat
- much faster touch response
etc.

I am on my second body of the Toshiba TG01. Its the worst phone I have ever owned.
I had it as an upgrade since February.
People I talk to can't hear me, They always sound crackly.
The replacement will now not sync with the PC, so all my contacts are locked on the pc.
The Bluetooth on the PC cannot find the phone.
The battery life is abysmal. I have to charge the thing up twice a day.
The internet connection is ok, but the adobe flash player cannot open some sites as its not compatible. Trying to download a better version does not work.
Very very dissapointed.
Wanted a HTC HD2 but was talked into taking this by Orange as the spec seemed the same.
I think its time I went to Vodaphone.

this is an amazing phone.
i have attached my usb keyboard and mouse to it.. and they work perfectly well.
you can also connect your usb mem stick to it.. and it will read and transfer the files no problem from your usb stick to the phone and visa versa..
i have also installed a software that can use the GPS without using the data packets from the provider.. all i do is go to google maps, find where i want to go, and write down the co-ordinates of the destination... then input it in the phone and it tells me which direction to go and how far and how long with the present speed.. unfortunately i dont have any maps.. but for my purposes with my bicycle .. it is perfect..
i totally recommend this phone.

Awful - would be brilliant if it all worked, I mean I want people to be able to hear me it is a phone.
Its windows mobile so it would be nice if the usb - activesync or Mobile device ctr worked , and I could transfer files.
Crashes - try running Google maps twice without resetting in between, sometimes notice it rebooting when sitting on the desk and the splash screen comes up.
Battery life, dont make me laugh.
It wont work with tomtom. somthing disabled - check forums
im on my 5th one now & stuck in contract.
Orange have withdrawn this phone for some reason

I have this phone and I am absolutly satisfied with it. Super fast, Super thin. And with the price range there's no other to compare with! The only downside I see it's the camera and the lack of flash but, seriously, is anybody using its's phone as a real camera for taking vacations shots? Don't believe it.. If you need the camera to upload pics to social networks, the 3.2 mpx is more than enough

Can anybody tell me if you can use a USB keyboard using the USB adapter provided?

> In reply to Osbad @ 2010-04-19 20:01 from 0Fnm - click to readDo you actually own this phone? A lot of people comment upon speculation. This phone as a multi-media device is excellent. Ok not too hot as a phone as call quality and speaker loudness are a little below par, but it's very slim despite it's overall size it's not bulky. The visual quality is fantastic, it's a darn fast phone too, try need for speed underground and throw your psp away! The audio quality through headphones could send you deaf with audible pleasure. Core player as standard ditto office. And for those within the uk only 129 pounds on prepay. It's a must have, the snapdragon processor is superb. Buy buy buy!
