Go to Messages - SMS Chat and there are your text messages.
Just use up down to highlight and read.

Radio & MP3 playing are really very good (& good headphones (a first!) but non-standard connector is bad). Email works too but hampered by tiny screen and ugly font that could have been smaller. Web browsing takes 30 seconds to load even the smallest page, def. for emergencies only!
Keys a bit stiff but won't activate accidentally. Lack of cut and paste or any movement keys other than up/down/left/right a pain: really with a whole keyboard it should be possible to provide page up/down, copy/paste, etc.
Radio won't work in flight mode (why?), and email vanishes from phone's menu system in flight mode so you can't even see existing messages or draft new ones! Fix: program a softkey to access email.
Instructions are too skimpy and printed in microscopic 4pt text and the user manual on Alcatel's site is just the same leaflet in PDF format! Eventually I got most stuff set up but some menus I still have no idea what they are for. What is "dial nb." for instance? What is the "phone code" used for? etc. Camera: I discovered by chance that there is a settings menu if you press left softkey whilst in viewfinder mode, then keep pressing navi-right for a whole set of camera options menus.
Overall great value for £20 but more usability and full documentation surely wouldn't have added much to the cost!

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2011-11-05 17:14 from 9xre - click to readI bought the OT355 because of the music player. There were no instructions with it but eventually I cracked it. You can download MP3 files, or (what I wanted) convert tracks from CD collection using Windows Media Player to transfer them to MP3 files directly on to a micro SDcard then on to the Alcatel by inserting the card into the slot and selecting Update Music. The Windows process involves inserting a CD, right clicking Rip Music to select Options from the Tools menu, selecting MP3 format and file destination with the folder you would like to see on the OT355 player.
By the way you can see the CD to MP3
process on a Youtube video

I placed mp3s on a 4 gig micro sd card in a few different directories (various "audio/music") and the phone recognizes the card and shows how much free space is available, but will not show the music file.

> In reply to superdupermobileuser @ 2011-09-10 19:12 from HCHr - click to readPlease can someone detail the steps needed to get to your SMS inbox on an Alcatel OT-355 mobile? I've just bought the phone and cannot for the life of me find the inbox!! Looks from some other posts here that it may not be straightforward. Please could someone also post instructions on how to move the inbox to the home screen?

MAny thanks

I really like it! I'm a text addict so great with Virgin Mobile and I enjoy texting with it! Also, the internet, which some say is slow, is actually really good! Only problem is the lack of Bluetooth, as there are songs I'd really like from my brother's phone that I can't get because there is no Bluetooth.

> In reply to Daniele @ 2011-09-04 14:22 from myZs - click to readyou can go to your message screen, advanced option, and change its view mode to conventional, that way your message screen will always show "inbox" like any other phone, to check your new messages

This is the worst mobile phone I've ever bought and the first time I have been moved to write and online review of anything! In order to read messages you have to go through 8 steps!!! Its like they've taken what Iphone does in terms of making things user friendly and then aimed to do the opposite. TERRRIBLE!!

The OT355 is well designed, easy to use and excellent value if all you need to do is make and recieve calls and/or send and recieve texts.
The non-availability of a PC suite makes it impossible to download music etc to the handset from a PC. Had I known this before purchasing the phone I would have thought twice about buying it.

When i saw this phone inFor a phone this cheap (same prize of a nokia 1118i and cheaper than the motorola 135 and nokia 1600 in my country)this phone is really good. It has java, wap and other really good features normally found in way more expencive phones. Compared with the nokia 1600 and motorola 135 this phone is way better in almost every sence.
If the quality of Alcatel is ticking you, I have it, it has falled a couple times and there isn´t a scratch on it.

I got this phone, pretty cheap, like 30 bucks. It's a very good phone in the relation quality/price, the OS is kinda odd, but takes time to get used into. Get this, 30 bucks, 65K colors,128x128 screen, Java, Wap, Amr/Midi, Gif, 1970 Kb of memory. That sounds darn good to me. It's the best low budget color phone, and it's on par (Even better on some aspects) than Ericsson T290.
It does have bad things, the keyboard comes hard, my fingers are sore. The ring volume is kinda low for the competition, but that's not a big issue, i hate the phones that sound like Radio. The wap is kinda slow too.

I am so sorry I bought this phone, there are very few extra features available, and somethings are possitively awful, like the fact that you can't make it call very long, nor very loud, since the volume, even on the highest level only slowly increases. The dials are hard to press, and annoyingly small. All in all, the worst phone I've ever had. I will never buy alcatel again
