Very poor implementation of Symbian. List of menus and submenus are illogical.

An example of which is when you try to delete a text message, you have to scroll your way down just to find the DELETE option. The arrangement is so illogical! the first in the lists are VIEW,NEW and download all. we're not that stupid that we need to go to options just to view the message. that's why we have the OK button in the middle right?

Also, would you prefer the NEW and download ALL option first before the "reply" and "delete" option? sheesh!

Try exploring your phone and check the logic of the list.

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2009-05-21 01:37 from 4fVA - click to readThe design is still a beauty on its own, and I wouldn't mind to pay US$200 if anyone can install any other software on my Z8, including the primitive P2K.

I'd take any other O/S over the stupid Symbian on my Z8, and even if I only dial in and out only, the phone may still retarts itself...

This phone had the loveliest design when it was released, but the phone is overshadowed by the worse implementation of Symbian software I have ever seen. Using this phone will take years off your life. The learning curve on this phone is unimaginable. I implore anyone considering buying this phone to stay away. Yes it is a well made, solid-feeling phone. But it is useless as a phone.

This is the worst piece I’ve ever used…. It’s restarting within 4 minutes.
It seems to b very pretty, but its very poor by performance, at the same time it’s not user friendly.
There are good features, but they r hard to use…

I strictly recommend people not to buy this.

Problems I faced:
• Its restarting within 4 minutes
• Poor battery
• Simbian is not working properly…..
• Hard to use…

People who say Motorola is good, could be a non Nokia, Samsungor SonyEricsson user……

> In reply to 100 Moto @ 2009-05-14 03:24 from Er2M - click to readWhat i mean is that the Manufacturer who implements the OS into the phone needs to pay attention to detail, NONE of the problems are your fault, what im saying is that MOTO did something wrong when tweaking the OS, the phone always rebooting is a clear indication of that, im pretty sure its down to poor memory management, they also havent optimized the software properly to run with the hardware, its basicaly a bunch of things that MOTO didnt properly and so have crippled the device. Programming for Symbian is difficult but a big company like MOTO with its great mobile history has no excuse for letting out a half baked product.

> In reply to Joey @ 2009-05-08 20:39 from j{kC - click to readAccording to your quote:

"Also like i said Symbian requires great attention to detail when implementing it, a lot more than other OSs, if one process goes wrong it reboots the OS, AND this is why Symbian can run on more hardware since its also very economical compared to WM"

Just call me naive in terms of smartphone operation.
Can you elaborate what you meant by "Symbian requires great attention to details when implementing it", does that mean I as the user needs to read a Symbian manual carefully before I implement any task on my phone?

As mentioned, I only use my Z8 for outgoing / incoming call purposes now. No playlist, no music playback, no additional software application apart from those installed straight from the factory. So exactly how should I suppose to "give great attention to details" when operating this phone?

Or else, if you meant the "system" is being so careful that it constant checks on what's going on, and with the slightest thing that may go wrong, the system would reboot itself?

If so, what exactly have I done wrong when I put my phone on standby mode and just make some outgoing calls and receive incoming calls? (don't even bother with SMS as the input method is way different from all of my other Moto phones)

Again, the problems I mentioned above only applicable to my Symbian based Z8. Not on any of my previous Moto phones not running on Symbian.

Your help is appreciated.

> In reply to 100 Moto @ 2009-05-08 02:29 from Er2M - click to readEvery issue you have posted is down to MOTO's tempering with the OS. On my Symbian S60 N81 im able to do all of that, plus edit Id3 tags right there in my music player and loads of other things. The boot up is down to the hardware and optimization, my N81 can boot up in around 15secs, and then again its a heavier OS than P2k and Linux.
UIQ has always had little parts of it that are crippled, this is why S60 is so much better, its not crippled and is a great example of showing how great and versatile Symbian is. MOTO should have used S60. Also like i said Symbian requires great attention to detail when implementing it, a lot more than other OSs, if one process goes wrong it reboots the OS, AND this is why Symbian can run on more hardware since its also very economical compared to WM.

> In reply to Joey @ 2009-05-06 19:03 from j{kC - click to readThis problem is not from motorola! this problem exactly come from porting UIQ to Non-Touch-Screen Devices! Z8 and z10 are first, and surely will be sacrificed for improve of other! this fone do not know what to do when you installing an application for UIQ 3.0! you have no touch pen to working with menus, application are best working on Sony Ericssons are only spacers on this fone! if this fone had S60 Symbian, there was no problem with it.

> In reply to Joey @ 2009-05-06 19:03 from j{kC - click to readIf the Symbian OS isn't to be blamed, how come the restart and dozens of other issues never happened to any of my other Moto phones, from "P2K" based Z3 to Linux based E6, or even Windows Mobile Q9h and A3100?

Why is it so difficult to create / edit a playlist on my Z8 vs. most of my other Moto phones? Why I can't even customize the shortcuts / rearrange the order of the icons on my Z8?

Why I can power-up my Linux based E6 in less than 8 seconds when my Symbian based Z8 takes near 20?

> In reply to 100 Moto @ 2009-04-30 02:45 from Er2M - click to readIve said it before and il say it again, DO NOT blame the Symbian OS, blame MOTO and their horrible handling of it. My NOKIA N81 runs the wonderful Symbian S60 OS and it hardly EVER restarts, its highly reliable, simple to use and a powerful OS, this OS requires loads of attention to detail thats why it can run well on most hardware, unfortunetly MOTO never took care of it and they mess it up in both z8 and z10.

been using Z10 for 6 months on O2 never had any problems there so many negative things posted bout this phone so im gonna post positive things bout Z10. The kick slide make it so much comfy to use then a standard slide phone, sound quality when making phone calls are clear and loud, sound quality when playing music very good not the tinny sound u get from most mobiles battery last me bout 3 days I do a lot of texting and fone calls, camera brill for mobile fone again u want good quality pic use a proper digital camera. Picks up singnal better then most phones I notice I’ve used sony eric, sagem, nokia. Screen quality is amazing u can tell its 16M colour screen helps that 2.2 inch screen so it very clear playing back videos or looking at photos. Z10 can play bck Videos at 30fps when most only play bck at 15fps which is jerky I put music vids on mine at 30fps sound 128kbps video quality at 312kbps play it brill without any hitch when most phone wld crash with that settings. there is something called “kill filter” basically u got call centre foneing u all the time just add their number in the “kill filter” u wont get a phone call from them even they id held it or u got annoying person u don’t to hear from add their number it will block all phone calls and txt. So if ur considering having this phone go for it u wont be disappointed.

> In reply to Whitey @ 2009-04-28 14:00 from mXGK - click to readJust curious before you get your Z10, did you ever read any comments (here) or review (elsewhere) on Z10? If so, what made you to decide on getting this phone after most of the comments being negative?

I know 2 ways to fix this Z10 or Z8 (as I've the latter):

1)Have Moto to simply dump the Symbian OS and simply install anything else...including the rather primitive (but absolutely and infinitely more reliable) P2K (the OS being used on most Moto's non-smartphones), over the stupid Symbian OS on this phone.

2)Sell your Z10!

When i bought this phone i thought it was great. But as soon as id had it a few hours i realised it wasnt so. it was painfully slow it has so many errors in the software it restarts itself more than just occasionally even the predictive text input method is a pain to use. Motorola should really hurry up and get a software update out quicker to fix this phones problems

It's all about design...and that's it. Everything else was forgotten. The battery life is so poor that in three days I had to "refuel" 5 times ( 10 to 15 hours of standby ). The software is unbelievabely slow, and definitely non user friendly at all. Got mine last Wednesday (15/04/2009), going to return it and get a Nokia N78 for a few more €uros. HelloMoto ?!?!? Sorry...for me it's "ByeBye Moto" That explains why Motorola is loosing market...There is no evolution...
