Motorola Android 5G Verizon Firmware updates

Verizon and Motorola partnered with Qualcomm to make the first 5G-compatible device. It was not a 5G smartphone, but a Moto Mod accessory that gives a 5G modem and additional battery pack to the Moto Z3.

The 5G Moto Mod went on sale in April, along with Verizon 5G network Today, the 5G Moto Mod is getting an update that adds support for the (Verizon-branded) Moto Z2 Force. Previously, the Moto Mod 5G was only compatible with the Moto Z3 and Z4.

In addition, Motorola has modified the Moto Mod’s power system to enable two-way charging between the Moto Mod and the host device. If the 5G Mod is depleted (14% or below), the phone will continue to power the 5G Mod until the Moto Z reaches 15% battery. Likewise, if the host device reaches 15% battery, the 5G Moto Mod’s built-in 2,000 mAh battery will lend some power to the host Moto Z.

The Mod update also brings some 5G enhancements and optimization to help improve network connectivity. Currently, Verizon has its 5G Ultra Wideband deployed in 30+ cities in the US including Providence, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Indianapolis, St. Paul, and Washington D.C.
