Apple iOS

Apple plans to use the Samsung M14 OLED panel in all iPhone 17 models, a tipster claims. This will include both non-Pro models, as well as the iPhone 17 Air, marking the first time in years Apple will be using the same top-tier panel in all its phones.

The M14 panel has a special light-emitting layer, common layers, and prime layers that make up individual pixels in the OLED. Different materials have different properties and use different compositions, allowing the display to perform at top level.

Samsung already provided Apple with M14 displays for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. These panels have up to 30% higher brightness and a longer lifespan than the M13 panel from 2023. However, the non-Pro models used even earlier tech, such as M12, which also appeared on the iPhone 15.

Switching to the Pro level of the panel still doesn't guarantee that all phones will get all Pro features, though. ProMotion, Apple's name for the 120 Hz refresh rate, may still be locked for some of the cheaper models.
