The Amazon appstore got a major update, bringing its version number to 2.0. The app repository of the online retailer got a total UI overhaul as well as some welcome new functionality.
The white backgrounds of the Amazon appstore have been replaced by gray ones and many of the other UI elements got a facelift. In terms of new features, you get an in-app purchases setting, parental controls and easier view of the gift card balance.
The update is probably also bringing plenty of changes behind the curtains to prepare the Amazon appstore for the launch of the company’s first tablet - the Kindle Fire. The $199 Android-based slate will go on sale on November 15, which is just five days away now.
Recent reports about the Kindle Fire pre-orders are quite optimistic. The Fire has been on top of the Amazon best seller tablet list for a while now and expectations are 5 million units of it to be sold before 2011 ends.
