Its amazing that a 8 year old tablet still get software support. Show me any android phone/tablet that still get sw support from the manufacturer after 8 years.

I bought this as my first Apple device on my 3rd year at college. I used this as a main computer in engineering school for two years. Accompanied me on my early working years for miscellaneous tasks and hobbies. And now, on its 8th year, it’s still going strong as a content consumption machine albeit showing its age. During this 8 year span, this device has seen me changed my android phone 5 times and my windows laptop 3 times but I never had to change my tablet cause it never had any issue.
I have gotten so much value out of this iPad and it has cemented to my mind Apple devices’ excellent build quality and longevity. I now have a macbook, mac mini, and an iPhone. I’ll keep these until they stop receiving security updates.

Can someone tell me if you were able to use USB 3.0 flash drive to transfer files from this iPad 5th Gen (2017) to your external USB storage? I'm using this iPad for school. I can't afford upgrading to iPad (A16) due to budget limitations, and I don't wanna waste spending for USB accessories as well. That's why I'm asking. Thank you.

Still working fine, but it is slow. I’m not mad though, cause it did its job. This ipad was overloaded with games on its 3rd year. Now just for watching, reading, and also gaming(it can still play roblox). 7th year, still with me, even through the toughest times i had lol. I’m a little sad to let go of this ipad some day, it goes all the way back.

One of the best apple devices. Still using in 2025 for content consumption works great without any issues.

I’ve been using this iPad since 2018. It’s still perfectly fine for YouTube and web browsing. I am still on iOS 14, therefore, performance is noticeably better than on the latest version it supports. I had got an iPad 6 on iOS 16 last year in order to use the Apple Pencil but I sold it after a few months because performance was really poor.

Using mine for 7 years now. Not a single issue. Subsequent software updates seem to slow it down a bit, maybe due to the increased demands of the later O.S taxing the Ipad’s dated hardware.

One of the best iPads ever. Still using it in 2024 mainly for content consumption and the experience is superb.

This iPad gaming performance is definitely same as iPhone 6S. Apple A9 chipset. but just this iPad has iOS 16 while iPhone 6S has iOS 15, oh who cares anyway.

6 years of usage. Not a single issue. Not a single lag. Did not even slow down a little. Not replacing this anytime sooner cause I use my laptop for every documents and official work. Ipads are really strong.

6 yrs of use in march; still get around 9-10hrs battery on a full charge; still on iOS 10; don't plan on replacing anytime soon

AMMIEL , 02 Oct 2022my tablet buyed by mom 5 years ago. but then it glitches and laggy now and the home button is ... moreJailbreak it or it';; always be that way... every version of the OS takes a percentage off of the maximun charge level and turn down the brightness to 80% ecause they'll take extra power simply due to the age of the bulbs my battery gets ~ 90%-10% = ~7h using bluetooth headset and watching youtube

my tablet buyed by mom 5 years ago. but then it glitches and laggy now and the home button is broken 4 months ago and drains every 3 hours in ipados 16.1. delevered in philippines.
