Still ipad air 3rd generation is considered better overall for your little more power hungry tasks and better display with wide color gamut and also as it has some extra features. If you are going to hold it in hand very often, go for ipad mini 5. Never mind 64gb. U can buy SanDisk pendrive for few more dollars. U can use that for ipads, iphones and save a lot just buying 64gb variant apple products. Instead of spending more on 256gb variant, spend less than that and get the apple pencil 1st gen. Overall my suggestion is
1. Ipad 8th genration ( basic stuff enough for ur tasks) or ipad air 2019 64gb (better display, camera, Bluetooth 5.0 for less latency)
2. Apple pencil 2st generation
3. 64 or 128gb SanDisk pendrive (lightning usb compatible)

I'm goind to buy my first tablet ever and I'm looking at Air 64Gb. I don't do any photo or video editing, don't play any mobile games (except maybe 1-2 small ones, like chess etc.), don't make or store any photos/videos on tablet. All I'm going to do with it is web browsing, reading books, writing notes with Pencil, watching movies/videos online, working with documents in Google Docs and so on. And I am going to use it entirely at home, so only streaming content, not downloading anything. Do you guys think in this scenario 64Gb version is too small? I am on really tight budget and don't want to pay more than needed. Sorry for long text, would appreciate any advice!

IMHO this iPad is really op. I have this in real life and you cannot tell the difference between this and the iPad Pro 2020. Don’t go by whatever bullcrap the so called influencers or tech reviewers say; as the 256gb Air version is 150 usd cheaper than the Pro 256 gb variant, and it doesn’t have much missing (60 hz is smooth enough imho) for that delta.

The best Ipad in medium range ( bit pricy I would say). Ppl have phones and cameras for better image and video experience. So no rush for camera in Ipads. , video editing can be done smoothly, they used finger print at the top for thin bezels. Quite smart move to make it cheaper than I pad pro

But, in most cases, only professional users need them. That's what I said. But will you drop extra 400 dollars just for these two things?? In my opinion, that's illogical unless you really need them.

im iPad lover, because its quality for drawing, gaming, lecturer task, etc. Also iPad Pro12 has the best performance than samsung's
But im also the hater of iPhone very much, because it is overpriced for obsolete feature. The stupid notch, the 2800 mAh battery, etc

If you are comfortable with sacrificing these two things, iPad air is far value for money option. Honestly, I won't recommend anyone iPad Pro to anyone except professional users. How long can hold a huge tablet as a camera?
