I agree se23, dont buy this phone on contract, buy it then hack it (and yes it really is that easy!) get a cheap month by month contract like o2`s £25 pm for 400 mins, 1000 txts, unlimited data, then if in 6 mths the new iphone 2 comes out sell your iphone for 200 odd quid and get the iphone 2, i would never buy a new phone on an 18 mth contract....
I did work in mobile phone shops for about 10 years, I even had my own shop but closed it cos of dodgy partners and had my first cell at 17yrs old I'm now 32. Someone again posted all the negatives we all know about when you could easily track back and read them. My input is!!!!!! Do not buy this phone on contract, if you buy it you must unlock it to use 3rd party sw or the phone is boring! I wouldnt buy one now cos we r so close 2 iphone 2. What your advice be to person like me who has n95 & iphone? And i still say iphone is good. Also if anyone thinking of buying n95 why dont u push them to go for n95 8gb instead of being in iphone forum? My reason for being here is i have got the phone. I listen to what u say but its only the actual owners input that i take on board if i want to buy a phone. But whichever phone i get ill hack it to death cos thats what i do!
I have to say that I am very torn with the iPhone. The interface is great, the mail works seamless, the iPod is awesome & the (WIFI) internet browsing on the phone is amazing (Well just the fact that you can via cell tower is amazing too! Bu, lets face it full web browsing on EDGE Blows! Hardcore!).
However, everything else sucks!
Call quality is awful except on the WIRED headset.
You can't hear it ring in any noise situation. For example, you can't hear it ring in the mall or a department store. If it's in the next room good luck unless you have dog ears.
It has NO GPS built in, NO MMS (For Gosh Sake!), NO camera Flash, NO Internet Flash either!
You can't send a bulk SMS (As in you add multiple recipients to the message).
Spell check is a nightmare! It keeps changing your words around! If it thinks a word is wrong it gives you itís suggested correction, but instead of being able to select the word it gives you if you want it, you have to deselect it if you donít! So if youíre typing away and you don't see it your message turns into gibberish! So annoying! Trust me you donít see it a lot of the time!
One of this phone's biggest flaws is; you have to use it with 2 hands all the time itís the interface. One hand has to hold it and the other one has to peck away. I am not incompetent at all! I can get the SMS with one hand, but most of this phone takes 2 hands and 2 eyes. The reason I think is due to the touch screen. With a normal keypad you get feed back and resistance so if you canít use your eyes you could feel around on the keys and figure out where you are. Not on the iPhone, of course you have to use your eyes. I did not realize how much of my previous Nokia phones I used with out my eyes! Especially when you are texting and walking at the same time on the iPhone you have to stop and stand in one spot and finish your typing. ARG so Annoying.
You can't do anything with the Bluetooth but a headset (like Verizon.. boo Verizon!) & you can't do anything with the USB but iTunes.
The ring tones are not that good; the speaker phone is completely UNUSABLE!! I mean no matter what situation itís not loud enough to be used. They should not have not put it in the phone it has to be embarrassing for Apple.
The battery takes overnight to fully charge up on a computer and 1/2 a night in the wall and it's gone in a day.
The calendar alerts are non existent. It beeps then that's it. You will get an on screen alert, but if something else happens like SMS or a Phone call it goes away. You can not change the alert tone AT ALL! I have missed every one of my calendar alerts!
You can not customize your interface at all except for a background when the phone is locked. You donít get a back ground in the menus and you canít change the colors or theme.
The phone is not that stable. I have had to reset my phone 5 times for quirky things it would start to do. I have to do it again right now. My new quark is that the iPhone phone application will crash if I try to add an address to any one of my contacts. Meaning the phone program will just shutdown. Iíll then have to reopen it an start over from where I left off. Itís really dumb.
There are even more thingsÖ but I have to stop now.. I canít keep going onÖ. Iíd be here all night!
I do feel better now! I got to vent a little in my review.
I hate the phone love the media interface.
All In All I have to say; Apple promised us a PHONE with an iPOD, but in its place we got an iPOD with a PHONE!
THIS PHONE BLOWS, everything else is great!
(Sorry for my bad Grammar!)
the phone does not have outgoing b.t,
u can not forward message to any one
u can,t open sim contact.
se23. one thing i wrote which you didn't address is marketing stratagy. all companies are guilty of this including nokia going from original n95 to 8gb with double the ram, but that's not really a big deal. apple though is really bad for this and this is 1 reason i'am here to draw attention to the consumer. look how many feature's are missing off i phone which will probably be brought out in i phone 2. gps built in, a2dp, louder music player, better camera, bluetooth transfer, voice dialing. so for someone to wait and not buy the i phone now but wait for a better one, this is good stratagy on the part of the consumer and they are the lucky one's who won't have 2 i phone's. resale value on any cell phone is not good, everyone want's a great bargain because it's not new.
LG KS20 looks more promising than this and its actually a direct competitor at that. for starters...dif'rent OS
lol @ nick
As i said before symbian apps need to get signed! In order to get the latest firmware thats untouched by networks u need to change country code. Are you getting all the good apps/ games for your n95 for free? I doubt it unless your a doing some sort of hacking. Us people who have the n95 and have rinsed it know that when the official sdk comes from apple this phone will go sky high. Quit yapping go to noeman gsm, catch up with me, then post here. Or just stay on the n95 forum!!!!! Thank you
First Size of this phone is big, Second you cant forward messages, plus i cant down load ring tones the one i want. Dear Apple keep working on this phone its reminds me my 745 BMW
T-Rex, any hopes for a firmware update that will allow me to put my mp3s as ringtones?
errrr yes george that is all it is, all the regular stuff but in a totally different way, even different from other touch phones
i'm not convinced by i phone, all the trick is it's interface . i like my nokia n93 i(2007) , i think is the best .
Gary be a leader not a follower. I've had my fun with n95! Its iPhone time now. You do spend a lot of time here considering u don't own an iPhone! Surely you must have posted all the negatives by now. I think most of us iPhone users have got over the speaker now and r simply enjoying the apps that come out daily. No anger In this message :) gary and allan google noeman gsm and then u can pimp ur n95 till its the best thing since slice bread but please leave us iphone users to create and develop our beutiful phone
I bought the iphone and its sweet if you can unlock it . Its really user friendly but there are only a few problems but otherwise it rocks....
iphone needs : leopard + carl zeis optics + intel pentium 900 ghz + at least 128 RAM + 3 G + update all other options.
A very good phone beeing the 1st from apple.
to se 23. I have heard the volume and read the reports. I phone is not loud enough. People on the iphone side say bad things about the n95 without owning one. Work's both way's.
Should also do a comparison with the N95 and a piano, both have about the same amount of keys scattered all around the place and both are bloomin massive
