Apple knows they can sell to the cell providers and your cell provider knows they can get people hooked into 2 and 3 year data contract on top of your voice plan. It's cheaper to buy an unlocked iphone in Canada for around 700.00 and just use wi fi, than a 3 year contract for 1080.00 plus 200.00 for the iphone. Go on the contract and you've just spent an extra 580.00 dollars!!
Sir Josiah, 26 Feb 2009You just completely biased that comparison to your own advantage. In Australia, an iPhone outr... moreAlso, before i was comparing my n95 unlocked phone(not from my cell provider) To the cost of an iphone on contract here in Canada. I"m not on a data plan, but i can still use free wi fi like at my workplace. So how am i being biased to my own advantage??
Sir Josiah, 26 Feb 2009You just completely biased that comparison to your own advantage. In Australia, an iPhone outr... moreIn Canada the iphone cost 200.00 dollars on a 3 year data plan that cost 1080.00 dollars!! The iphone is not more affordable than other phones, period.....
Sir Josiah, 26 Feb 2009You just completely biased that comparison to your own advantage. In Australia, an iPhone outr... moreI agree, with Vodafone in Australia the 8GB is free on a $79 plan, the 16 is $121 or $5 a month extra, the N96 is $360 or $15 a month on the same plan.
P.S. I couldn't care less about Telstra pricing, just like I couldn't care less about people who don't check the functionality of a phone and weigh up the pro's and con's BEFORE buying it.
Personally the iPhone feels like it was made for me, if I designed a phone specifically for the way I used a phone it would be very close to the iPhone.
Over the past 15 years I've used 25 to 30 phone's.
Allan, 25 Feb 2009I'm not desperate like you guys to have internet access 24 7. I have free wi fi work and a com... moreYou just completely biased that comparison to your own advantage. In Australia, an iPhone outright price for the 16 gig model is about $900. The N96 is $1200. To get an iPhone on the unlimited talk and text plan from Optus, you are looking at $129 per month, with 3 gig of data, the handset being free. Alternatively, the N96 on the same plan costs an extra $20 a month in handset repayments. Be it said, the iPhone is on the iPhone specific plan, which gives an extra gig of data due to them being such internet intensive devices, but the facts still remain. (This is me posting from work at Optus with the brochure in my hand)
The iPhone is a more affordable handset. Period.

I love Nokia. I had 3315 ,6131, 6288, 2 N82s and i was very happy to find out about the N97 but i think ill get an iPhone untill n97 will arive. i had problems with n82... dont know ab. iPhone but if the n97 touchscreen works (and i belive it will) like the one on 5800 XM it will suck
There's a big hype about the iPhone and what the iPhone has done for the market and the future of phones is great. BUT as a phone and just as a phone it's poor. the spces are poor. it's the software that delivers. You can't send multimedia text messages, no videos calls, extremely poor quality camera and no means of making a video, which is standard on todays phones. I was waiting for the iPhone, being a Mac user, but the specs were disappointing. I can't do the basics of a standard phone, but it distracts you with the software and things you would rarely use. as a piece of hardware it's substandard. If Apple work on phone side and build on what they have, they will truely have a winner (Keeping in mind what other hardware are available on the market; HTC, Sony Ericsson, Nokia (N-Series), Toshiba, Samsung and LG, all pushing out great spec phones (but lagging in OS in comparison the iPhone)). MS are just a step behind, but if they get the OS right and put it on the right spec phone, the iPhone will fall hard and I think that's not far behind. Lets hope Apple take the right steps.
nick, 25 Feb 2009hmm, but at the end of the day, still no fm radio really...
how can i tune into BBC london ... moreGet one of the Internet radio streaming applications and tune in BBC or buy some headphone's with an FM radio.
It's quite obvious what an iPhone does and doesn't do it's written here thousands of times, if the things it doesn't do are important to you then buy something else, don't whine about it after the fact.
hmm, but at the end of the day, still no fm radio really...
how can i tune into BBC london 94.9 for the football eh?
same thing here, if nokia adds DVB-H in N97, no one wants to buy N96 right?, if they choose N97 for the 8MP Carl Zeiss wide angle len model, they will put shame on their other 5MP phone right?
Well, I have been wondering why Apple does not give what their customers want to have in the firmware update? their customer have been complaining for 2 years, but it still is not going to happen!
Why iphone users can't have MMS, Cut & paste, background running, bluetooth and many more.
is it because if apple add all features in iphone, no pne wants to buy mac or macbook right?

what is apple making we need these essential features to live through daily lives
we should be able to have freedom to do what we want on our phones not even worth its retail price nor contract sales
if this phone $0 on a 24 month heck id buy it
if the phone $200 or higher why not?
i love apple and their products but they need to get with the program the 08/09 program
not worth it i traded mine for a motorola v9 and thats a smart idea thank goodness!!
Anonymous, 25 Feb 2009So what N97/n95 can do web browsing!
So can my N82 but there's no comparison, I never used it when I could access my PC, the iPhone is the only phone I've ever used which offers a decent alternative to a PC.
I definately prefer email on the iPhone to my PC.
