I still have the touch, will probably sell it on ebay if I choose to keep the Iphone.
Thanks Ole,
Well alltel doesn't have those yet. Being a full time mobile dj, this seems best to fit my needs.
Joe, 11 Aug 2008I had an HTC Touch from Alltel for 5 months before trying the Iphone 3G. Alltel had to replace... moreDear Joe...
To be honest... I had an 1G iphone before switching to an HTC Touch... (which by the way has work effortlessly and without any flaws for 5 months now...) Anyway... The iphone's UI is quite impressive... but I had to drop it because of a long list of cons... (no document editor, no video recording, no bluetooth connectivity with other devices and so on...) So I guess it is just a matter of preferences and priorities...(and in your case, luck with devices). However, if you want a entertainment device... then the iphone is for you... but if you want a more rounded group of specs choose any other touch based, WM phone... By the way... you should take a look at the HTC Diamond, the Omnia and Xperia if you are looking for more than eye-candy...
I had an HTC Touch from Alltel for 5 months before trying the Iphone 3G. Alltel had to replace the touch 2 months after I had it. The screen locked up on it. Both touches had glitches in cell phone receptions and constantly locking up. I had to reboot it multiple times a day. Both units. This tells me that this is a constant problem on Windows Mobile phones.
Here are my Iphone 3G likes and dislikes after 2 weeks of use.
Dislikes: Safari has no ability to see websites with frames that have a scroll bar on the the sides.
Will not send a picture in text messaging
Does not see WMV on websites that have a video playing
Will not let you hear a mp3 from clicking on a link.
No copy and paste ability.
The speaker is very weak, during speakerphone conversations, notifications of any kind including an incoming call. This may very well be the deal breaker that I may return it.
Not able to record video ...WT! I thought this was a basic as a camera on the cell phone.
There may be others but these are the ones I have found in 2 weeks of using the phone.
Likes: The phone is flawless in it's operation. Doesn't lock up but sometimes has a problem connecting to the internet to get mail. The little circle thingy just keeps chasing it's tail at times. When it does this I just reboot and it seems to do ok. Boot up time is much less than WMobile.
Quick GPS location. Sats beam in about 10 to 20 seconds. With my touch it was sometimes 5 minutes if any at all.
Audio quality for a phone is the best I've heard either by phone talking or music. I listen to Sirius and it's really clean. Played it through my Bose L1 system. I was pretty impressed.

All that this phone has is an amazing GUI ... THATS IT! .. its useless in all other respects. I think Nokia E71 takes the cake.

Anonymous, 11 Aug 2008to all of those people that think the iphone is not as good as other phones, then your wrong i... moreCan we send sms to multiple no.s or a distribution list in one go(just as we can do in most of nokia phones) through iphone.
I guess jobs isnt doing his job that well
PinoyGamer, 07 Aug 20081- Bluetooth incapable to send files 2- When recieving a call in standby mode, no REJECT opti... moreMy friend. It lacks a lot indeed, but to reject a call you have to simply use the upper button. Read the bloody manual before barking
The iPhone is flawed in many respects. Average camera, no flash, basic bluetooth features... this list can go out. The thing is you're more than willing to overlook these small flaws because the iPhone excells massively in every other area. I've owned very recent models of Nokia, SE, and Samsungs yet I'd still put the iPhone a world above them. If you've never seen or used one don't base your opinion on reviews. You have to see it to believe it.
PinoyGamer, 07 Aug 20081- Bluetooth incapable to send files
2- When recieving a call in standby mode, no REJECT opti... moreyou're and idiot, learn how to use.
you can reject always calls by pressing twice on sby button...
I dont know whats the hassle about 2mp camera on the iPhone... unlike Nokia or Sony Ericsson that has hundreds of range N,E,..K,W,Z..hmm..iPhone 3G has all the needed function in one device... I use a Nokia N95 8Gb before the iPhone 8Gb... Yes.. I cant send mms or videocall...but the I enjoyed the fast access to Gmail/Yahoo..My email looked sooooo good when downloaded and super fast...heaps of applications can be added to the phone...I love how my music sounds when I'm on the tram to work... Its easy to update the software when hooked up to itunes...been using it for 3 weeks now...loving it!...but hey..if u want a 5megapixel camera, mms and videocalls... go get a nokia or sony....:)
I bought an Iphone 3g two days ago, and the 3g recption, is most of the time, one to two bars. It also also performs better in 2g mode.
Since finding out, that the antenna is at the bottom of the Iphone. When turning the phone around, my signal increases to full reception.
I have to say, I have been dealing and fixing mobile phones for years. This is the first time I have come across, an antenna installed at the base of the phone. Where the users hand is placed sheilding the signal, from working. This phone was tested on the Optus 3G 2100 Network Toowoomba QLD Australia.
Tell me, do we need to have heads that spin to use this phone???????????????????
Maybe Apple should go back to making computers, they can't even place antenna in right direction and position god help us!
hi..really when comparing the iphone 3G to other phones we 'll find only the Nokia N95 which may challenge the iphone 3G..
Nokia N95 has a 5 mp camera..and video rec.,
but the iphone only 2 mp..without video rec.,
and also the bluetooth feature..and the out speaker..,etc..
but iphone=experience+style+less problems..
Nokia N95 has many problems as many other Nokia phones..,
Enjoy..
So the I-Phone in my opinion. Just had a hands-on-experience. My post is for Romania so i don't know if some things i say may be accurate in other countries:
The SMS function - the dictionary only in english
Google Maps - don't work in Romania, they get lost along the way
Bad camera - nice light sensor but no autofocus and image stabilizer
Without an unlimited internet connection you are toast :)
The bluetooth problem - here we use it above average
Lack of privacy - ... ;)
3G mania- the diference is Edge has 220kb/s and 3G is 384kb/s
No videocall
Weather - Constanta's name is some thing like Kumarg .... wtf?
Music - uber cool in headsets but out loud ... Only 1 speaker , the other one is just for looks
More to come :)
well im still sticking with the Samsung i900 its gonna be the best phone out there ...
this is a totally ridiculous phone, it is such a con i have been a fool by falling for the way the phone has been marketed.
no video no mms poor quality camera, if your looking for a handset to do the same for a budget price the samsung solid is a better phone.
The phone looks and feels great but it has really bad quality and other problems. I returned mine two days ago.
- I experienced that 3G is really weak and draws a lot of batteries, at least compared to an SE W890. Other have same problem.
- My casing cracked, look here for more with same problem: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/10/our-iphone-3g-cracked-too-what-gives-apple/
- The iPhone sends private data to Apple about what applications you have installed. Have you ever heard of Nokia or SE doing that!? Look here: http://gizmodo.com/5035358/60-million-apps-sold-at-itunes-store-there-is-a-kill-switch-says-steve-jobs
