Nokia uses Li-Ion anyway, but that doesn't stop them swelling.

Boy genius! how'd you figure that out? :)))

No wonder you are such an iSheep, you never even held a nokia.
Steve Jobs is going down! hooray! about time too!
good old Nokia, i hop they sue the krap out of them!

The swelling comes from a build up of hydrogen gas, I've seen plenty of plastic Nokia batteries with that symptom.
i wish someday iphone 3GS have a handwriting,8.1MP camera and removable battery

You truly have to be very cheap (motorola) or have no idea about phones (apple) to simply hand over to your customers batteries in such form, for the sake of "compactness" and "sleekness".
Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009The batteries are wrapped in metal foil, they aren't in a plastic shell, making them slimmer a... moreYou don't know lipo's at all. Lipo's in their raw form are wrapped in a double plastic sided thin aluminium foil, bent sideways to give room for balooning.- that's how they come in iPhone.
Decent manufacturers(all but apple and motorola) wrap them extra in a thick sheet of stainless steel to prevent unfortunate events.
Once a lipo swells, the contact between metal rod-lithium compound is compromised and so is the battery life.
So I'm sorry to break your ducktape fantasies but I play with 22V @ ~5000 mAh lipo's and yes, I do know everything about them.

Where would the fun have been if they would have picked on the first iPhone, the GSM iPod LOL.
Either way apple's desperation is picking up with the launch in china (they're made there, what took apple so long?) since the iphone might be banned out of europe:
As you know iphone batteries have no metallic saftey garment so swelling up and cracking the phone as well as overheating was reported.
Well done apple, well done steve jobs! we're looking forward to the charade speech for gaining back control over your stray iSheep.
Just hurry up to replace the EU market with china since everybody in china is so rich, they can afford up to 5 iPhones or so i've heard!
No wonder apple are posting such great profits - it's far easier to make a profit if you're not spending what you should be! This does seem a tad desperate from nokia, but i doubt they'd do this if they weren't confident that they had a case. The iphone's been around for 2 years now - why is it only now that this has come up? Perhaps nokia gave apple every opportunity to pay the patents, and apple kept promising to do so...and now nokia have had enough? It's quite sad that a tremendously successful company like apple still tries to operate on the sly.
Rumor has it, they stole the telephony core from devices of 1100 and 3310 class.
No wonder the battery doesn't last at all, that's pre-2000 technology this "ultimate computer uses".
what so great about this phone? i had this phone, i have to go to apple every time it hangs... can't wait for the nokia n900.
