battery back up is damn poor......the disadvantage of this phone is battery back up i think apple should work on it........

I have been using iphone 3g for the past 3 years and it has been fantastic.BUT, of late, since i upgraded the to the latest ios 6 software my phone can bot hold power anymore. if i charge it becomes very hot and when it cools down it looses all the charge. Did i kill my phone by upgrading the software? Can somebody pls help?
