Anonymous, 10 Nov 2010Im not saying you shouldn't buy an n8 but im trying to say theres no reason to not get an ipho... moremore apps??yeah right, btw i dint know that ebooks and website shortcuts are also counted as apps!

This is a Phopne to make calls, Intyernet check, GPS and SMS, if one wants a game machine, there are PSPs available. When you mention multitasking, I agree that iPhone lacks it but it will be in it soon wne their new verions of OS comes in.
Im not saying you shouldn't buy an n8 but im trying to say theres no reason to not get an iphone 4, games + touchscreen is soo smooth, simple design even 6 years old could handle. I mean there has to be thousands more apps than the symbian store right? And you people with the radio talk... Most of us have a data plan which means ONLINE RADIOS! (but it lacks fm transmitter, but who cares! we have 3.5mm cables in our cars!!!)
[deleted post]Let me know when Samsung will reach 300 billion market cap like Apple
[deleted post]a real smartphone is 1 which is feature rich and has REAL multitasking.
For playing games i prefer a psp...
Allan, 10 Nov 2010That free navigation doesnt work without data.I know i have it on my N97.I also have garmin th... moreHi Allen. Yes the charges are minimal & I don't the charges are much at all all. But that depends how much you use it. It only needs a connection charge but then that's it I think. Please correct me if I am wrong ;)
Most people have an Internet bundle which caters for data charges I guesse anyway now if your on contract. Pay as you go even get Internet for smaller charge than contract per day. I should have made that clear. Either PAYG or contract should cater for chargees as free in part of the data charges bundle.
We forget to mention the camera. The N8 has a 1.83" Image sensor which uses the full 12MP for resolution for capturing photos or downscaling from higher resolution to 1280x720P Video recording at 25FPS. N8 has an Intelligent Zoom & high depth of field. The camera sensor reduces the noise for low light dark environments. It has geotagging.
Red Eye, Face detection. N8 uses zennon flash which is brighter than LED. The N8 camera is hyper active focal distance. But zennon can't be programmed to be used as a Torch. Alternativly there are applications from OVI Store which allow you to use the Display as a quick light source.
The Iphone-4 has a smaller Image sensor I think? Maybe someone can correct me on this. It's using a smaller 5MP but Iphone still has a great camera & Video recording at 30FPS. Not sure if it has Face & smile detection or red eye reduction..It has geotagging. Iphone-4 has Tap to focus touch screen controls.
The N8 battery last's a good two days for moderatly heavy use. So heavy use you can get aways with using it for a day I think. But that's because symbian has some magic working proximity sensors reacting to light & sitching the low power mode standby into activity as soon as light changes or you are not using it.
Hi. My report was supposed to be a meaningful representation of what both phones can & Can't do. You will see that I did give the Iphone-4 a good report & a good word especially with the Multi Touch UI & touch control gesture of the IOS. & NO I am not a Nokia agent I just do have a lot of time on my hands. :)
I was trying to be fair & I did mention the things that the Nokia can do. You also have to take in to consideration & tell people what they are going to expect, what they will get for their money. This is vital for people lke Sonia.
I hope most people did find my report UNBIASED, ethical - "good & fair & right". It was meant to explain can & can't. People do want to know what is going to be possible & what is not, rather than somone only tell them ll the good points but gthen leave the bad points & find out that they are dissapointed.
The reason for doing this is because everyone has vary degrees of & expectations. You have to give it to them . What you like about N8 or Iphone-4 might be what they like & dislike or both or some things & not the others. Anyways I'll shut up now.
Engineer Man, 09 Nov 2010In reply to Sonia, Dear Sonia: If you want a phone that's better for Entertainment then ... moreThat free navigation doesnt work without data.I know i have it on my N97.I also have garmin that works without data.
From user experience, there is no comparison between IPhone 4 and any nokia products. I had bad experience with n97 and because of that I totally switched to iPhone 4. People will not trust nokia any more....
Engineer Man, 09 Nov 2010In reply to Sonia,
If you want a phone that's better for Entertainment then ... moreEngineer man, You either have alot of time on your hands or your defintely work for Nokia!!!
You say that your views aren't biased but as an individual reading your LENGHTY report....you seem to love your Nokia!!!
Well, Let me tell you this and NOT being biased....I prefer my Iphone 4 over my N8....and oh er yes I do have both and the Iphone is MUCH better thank you...I still experience freezing on my N8! I've already returned this to the shop and they replaced this already and still does the same thing resetting and freezing!!! Hence why my preference on Iphone 4 over N8!
Engineer Man, 09 Nov 2010In reply to Sonia,
If you want a phone that's better for Entertainment then ... morethank you for this long report EngineerMan. what you forget is the price.
the n8 is cheaper than the iphone4.
In reply to Sonia,
If you want a phone that's better for Entertainment then there are a few differences between the Iphone-4 & Nokia N8 that you might want to consider.
The Iphone-4 being only available in two colours, White & Black. The N8 has a wider choice of colours available, Grey Black, Silver, Orange, Blue, Green.
Fistly I'll just point out that the Iphone is made out of 2 piece sheets of glass, on the front gorilla glass which supposedly promises to be tough on drops & scratches resistance.
Nokia N8 is built from one piece anodized aluminium with top & bottom rubber with colour matching same coating as the metal case.
Iphone 4 has 3.5" widescreen multi touch display with the most densely packed pixels within the display. 960x640 pixels resolution with the most pixels per inche at 326 PPI. I think is the no.
The Nokia N8 has a 16:9 Widescreen multi touch display at 640x360 pixels resolution. Not exactly as wide as Iphone-4 because of a slightly less compact design for comfort in hand so it's a 3.46" display. The PPI pixels per inche for N8 being around 210. The same as the C7.
The Iphone-4 has a TFT IPS panel which is Good for motion resolution & good for wide view angles aswell with good contrast black blacks & bright whites. The N8 has an AMOLED screen which typically has very vivid dynamic colours, saturated hues, better blacks & brighter whites. Good wide angle viewing & also very good for motion resolution.
The difference. Typically TFT especially IPS (In Plane Switching panels) use lots of power, more battery lfie from the Iphone. AMOLED is actually 30% lower using noticeably less power from the N8's battery.
So AMOLED dynamic range, more contrast & more vivid colours than TFT. AMOLED more battery efficient over TFT. Their is no faulting the best TFT IPS panels as they are great but so is AMOLED. TFT is a technology driven through more years of matureness.
As regards to using both technologies in bright sunlight, the N8 is noticably better than TFT, but some Iphone usersa argue that TFT has generally very good seeability in bright sunlight.
From my experience tehy are both similiar with not much difference in reality. Only Samsungs Super-AMOLED betters these two in bright sunlight. IS is better to note that this is Nokia's 2nd GEN AMOLED screens & does generally better in these conditions over their previous AMOLED's.
Iphone-4 GPU vs Nokia N8. well I'd rather send you to a site which reviews the GPu performance of both phones here. http://www.thenokian8.info/nokia-n8-vs-iphone-4g-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-vs-google-nexus-one-benchmarks.html
So they both have good performance generally with most 3D games & differ depending on which 2D, 3D aspects, features of the GPU co processor can handle. The Iphone-4 is higher performing in some areas whereas the N8 is higher performing in other areas of testing for 3d Games.
The Iphone-4 does have a 3-axis Gyro sensor so you may find games that make use of this more fun. The N8 does not have a 3-Axis Gyro sensor. But both phones will utilize accelerometer for most of the best & latest games along with touch multi touch screen controls for in game control.
The Iphone-4 video HD playback, Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5Mbps, 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35Mbps, 1280x720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format. Taken from Apples website.
For the N8 video playback support the N8 will playback H.264 (base profile, main profile, high profile), MPEG-4, VC-1, Sorenson Spark, Real video 10
Streaming: H.264, Flash Lite 4 (Flash 10 compatibility for video), On2 VP6, Sorenson Spark.
720P or 1080P will look great on both phones screens but you'll never see the benefit except filling all the screens pixels on both phones. Therefore 720P is well enough & 1080P will just waste space for a difference you not see.
The Iphone-4 has Support for 1024x768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable to TV.This is at best Standard defintion quality with a HD TV.
The N8 will play HD 720p/1080P Video plabyack on HD TV through HDMI cable & *Dolby Digital Plus surround sound when played with HDMI & a home theatre.
The N8 uses a Micro USB 2.0 connection with support for USB On the Go meaning you can plug in any universal or major brand USB flash drive & read or write files & do File transfer data from any other Nokia phone using the (On the Go) which just works through the Micro USB port aswell as working as standard USB Synch cable & for charging & OVI Suite or PCSuite or Firmware downloads.
The Iphone-4 uses a Micro USB 2.0 connection but no support for (USB On the Go) so you can noly use this to charge the phone with your PC/MAC & use it as a sych cable for data or firmware or Itunes media trasnfers etc...
For Iphone-4 Audio playback. Here is the specifications from the Apple Site. Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
Audio formats supported: AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), HE-AAC, MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV.
The N8 Audio playback specifications from the Nokia website. Music codecs: .MP3, WMA, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB. Bit rate up tp 320 kbps
DRM support WM DRM, OMA DRM 2.0.
Iphone-4 has 32GB of built in memory, but less user available space than N8. The N8 has around 14. something GB of user free space. Plus a MicroSDHC upto 32GB of extra external storage. The Iphone doesn't have this option. So you could store more music, pictures, movies on N8.
The Iphone-4 doesn't have an FM Radio or FM transmitter, but the N8 does have FM Radio & Fm transmitter.
Both phones have ambient light sensor, proximity sensor & accelerometers. Both phones have WiFI b,g,N & both phones have A(ssisted using WIFI)-GPS to load maps faster. Both phones have a Digital compass.
Nokia has the faster higher class GPS modem builtin & Nokia OVI maps in most countries with walk & drive & voice guided navigation is free. You can also opt on hte N8 to switch off the GPS & use the compass so you get the best of both world by using the compas to guide the Maps data..
Apple has the most Apps in their Store. Whereas Nokia are very far behind with application support. Nokia will need to catch to Apple but that will take a while.
Iphone-4 has bluetooth 2.1 but so far only supports connecting to stereo bluetooth headsets & other accessories, not that sure about the remote control protocols & whether they work with A2DP & others.
While the N8 has Blue 3.0 which supports all protocols aswell as the A2Dp remote control protocols for stereo headsets but aswell as connecting them you can also connect any other accessories aswell as use bluetooth for file trasnfer of anything including audio, images, music, video & other PIM data etc.. etc..
I hope that this has given you some intersting information & I have tried to keep the information as UNBIASED as possible. Also listen to everyone else here who are trying to give you helpful advice. It's all about what suits your needs best. Think about these aspects.
Aesthetics, practicality, usability, customizability. Think about functionality. If functionality & support to do lots of things is your taste, then you will want the OS with the widest featureset which is Symbian^3 N8 phone.
If you want a phone that has great touch experience, then the Iphone-4 is for you currently as the UI is fast, more simple, & multi tocuh gestures do work better. However S^3 is not on par here but will get better.
So with Iphone-4 you will have a nice experience using the touchscreen & the os with the multi touch gestures & overall speed & simple use of things. However Nokia do also have the best UI experience yet with the N8 but it's not as good as apples.
Symbian is a fuller, more rounded OS which is most complete & feature function rich, the navigation & touch experience is not as good as apples. But it has everything else catered for, sadly the Apple Iphone-4 doesn't cater for functionality.
Things like videocalling for the N8 can work over SKYPE using 3G or WIFI with any mobile that supports videocallnig. Apples Iphone-4 videochat needs another Iphone to work & only works over WIFI currently.
Multitasking is something that Apple still doesn't do aswell if at properly which Nokia's Symbian has done very well for quite some time & is matured along with all the other feature rich abilities of Symbian.
At the End of the day it's down to you to decide which is the most practical & useful phone for your needs. Please decide carefully all the key tings which the Apple Iphone-4 can do & can't & all the things the N8 can do & can't.
[deleted post]if you think that your iphone is so so perfect then why are you bothering to reply to my post lol......i dint write that comment for u only.....
